Chapter 073: To Knock or Break In

Afterwards, Jing Shu posted a video about her frog-selling activities online, detailing how to care for the frogs and their bug-catching capabilities, along with the required spare parts and models for a BYD Song vehicle, mentioned by her father.

Now that car factories were shut down and 4S shops were closed, maintaining a vehicle in the post-apocalyptic world was truly difficult. Having essential spare parts was crucial.

A few years after the apocalypse, a functioning car would be exceedingly rare.

Jing Shu could have attempted to steal tires or raid a 4S shop, but that would be too troublesome and, crucially, she lacked the necessary expertise. Her father, who knew about cars, was disdainful of such actions. It was easier and more efficient to simply trade frogs for the needed parts and conserve time and effort.

Master I Have a Child 13#: “I’ll trade! My car is a BYD, and I have the parts. I’ll get the tires and other parts for you.”

Seeing the video Jing Shu posted, many people were amazed by how something as common as frogs had become so rare.

Fat Lady 25#: “Raising frogs has become really popular lately, just that there are too few of them. If you were giving them to a doctor, you’d definitely get a hospital bed. I have what you need for your mini; I’ll strip it down for you.”

“I’ll trade too!”

“Count me in. Anything usable, I’ll pry it off. This damn car is like scrap metal anyway.”

With corpse flies severely impacting daily life, and cars becoming useless due to the lack of fuel, many chose to exchange their car parts for small frogs. This decision was driven by the hope that saving water and keeping their homes free from corpse flies would protect their food supplies, making everyone enthusiastic about the trade.

Under Jing Dad’s supervision, a variety of parts were quickly collected in front of Building 25, where a group of ragged, flashlight-bearing people awaited Jing Shu’s distribution of frogs.

Master I Have a Child ended up trading for three frogs due to the abundance of parts he offered, while others got one frog each. In total, fifteen small frogs were traded for several car parts, tires, and even tools—unthinkable before the apocalypse. Jing Grandpa, puzzled, remarked, “Are frogs really this valuable now?”

Zhang Bing Bing, ignoring her dirty appearance, joyfully inspected her new small frog and asked, “Jing Shu, are you not short on water? How can you afford to keep so many frogs?”

Her question quieted the crowd, who all turned their shabby appearances toward Jing Shu, curious how she seemed relatively clean and well-kept compared to them.

“Whether she lacks water is her business! If it wasn’t for her, where would we get these parts? Just go home and take care of your frog before it overheats,” chided a plump woman, shuffling into Building 25 with her new pet.

As people dispersed, Jing Shu breathed a sigh of relief, only for her phone to buzz incessantly.

Fancy Car Dealer 5#: “@Jing’s Villa, if you need car parts, come to me. We’ve got everything in our shop. I’ll trade with you.”

Jing Shu remembered this person, who blamed her for not dragging him along to his death previously. She never gave second chances to those who turned against her, “Sorry, I’ve already traded.”

Fancy Car Dealer: “Our shop still has lots of engine oil and snow tires. I’ll take you to get them, just bring me more frogs.”

“I don’t engage in theft. Besides, I don’t need it anymore.”

Fancy Car Dealer: “Are you deliberately not trading with me?”

“Yes, I’m not generous enough to trade with someone who curses at me.”

His words, filled with venom, vented his frustration in rapid, angry typings into the chat box.

“Why not? Because of you people hoarding food and not willing to sell, I joined that organization. If each of you had given me a pound of grain, would I have joined?”

“300 yuan for a meal and you act like you’re doing charity, Snow Mei! It serves you right to have everything taken from you!”

“Also, the boss liked your daughter. You should have just enjoyed it, it serves you right that you’re dead now. The government’s lying about the artificial sun to buy time, and they’ve hidden the grain months ago. You’re all fools.”

As he spat out his venom, unbeknownst to him, Jing Shu and her father had called Wang 77 to inquire his address and were already on their way there, ready for confrontation.

Wang 77, taken aback, asked, “Do we knock or break in?”

Jing Shu, her face set coldly, drew a hook wire from beneath her coat and with a resounding crash, drove it through the peephole of room 602 in Building 5.

Wang 77 swallowed hard, his eyes wide with fear as he instinctively covered his groin, feeling a chill run down his spine.
