Chapter 074: Now It’s Your Turn

Jing Dad had been fretting about how to help his daughter regain control of the situation, but her forceful approach left him equally stunned.

Jing Shu, having skewered the door’s peephole in one fell swoop, reached in with a hooked wire to swiftly unlock and open the door. Her skills, honed over a decade of apocalyptic survival, included not just farming but also lock-picking—a necessity when quick access to resources could mean the difference between life and death.

By next year, the sea levels were expected to rise, submerging the central areas of Wucheng. Those without such skills would miss out on scavenging the submerged supplies, relegated to consuming nutrient-poor red filament worms instead.

In a previous life, Jing Shu had lagged behind in scavenging, ending up consuming such lower-tier resources. However, driven by necessity, she had since mastered a range of survival skills.

Barging through the door, Jing Shu led the way into the dark, fetid apartment, followed closely by her father. Wang QiQi, caught off-guard by the rebounding door, clutched his forehead in pain, muttering about how this wasn’t the plan they had discussed.

Inside, they found Gou YiTian, the resident of the apartment, in a sorry state. Clad only in underwear and hunched over his mobile phone, he reeked of neglect and desperation—common among many during these dark times.

“You… how did you get in here…?” Gou YiTian gasped, unprepared for their direct approach. To him, these people seemed almost demonic. Had they really just broken down the door?

Yet, what could he do? Affiliated with the radical group ‘Blot Out the Sun’, he had been part of orchestrating widespread chaos to take control of their community. Could they really kill him over this?

As Jing Dad rolled up his sleeves to deal with Gou YiTian, Jing Shu delivered a swift kick to the man’s gut, knocking the wind out of him before he could react. Her next kicks targeted wherever he tried to protect—his head, his stomach, and then lower, with brutal efficiency.

Her final kick landed on a particularly sensitive spot, causing a sickening crack. Gou YiTian’s screams filled the room until he passed out from the pain.

“Does that hurt enough for you to act tough?” Jing Shu continued her assault until she was sure he was incapacitated. Wang QiQi watched, mouth agape, shocked beyond words by her ferocity.

After binding Gou Yitian with wire so tightly that he couldn’t move or speak, they discussed what to do with him. While Jing Dad and Wang QiQi felt killing him would be too extreme, Jing Shu knew leaving him alive was too dangerous. They compromised by leaving him bound and gagged within his apartment, unable to seek help or escape, effectively neutralizing the threat he posed.

Later that evening, after ensuring her family was asleep, Jing Shu planned to return and end his life quietly, using a method that would leave no marks—a technique known as “smothering with wet paper.” It was a grim decision, but in the brutal reality of their world, it was necessary.

Their next steps involved planning for the increasing lawlessness outside. As the city descended further into chaos, Jing Shu focused on securing resources for her family. Her father worried about the legality and morality of their actions, but Jing Shu reassured him that their survival depended on such measures.

That night, as the family enjoyed a peaceful dinner, oblivious to the day’s violent undertones, Jing Shu received a troubling message from Wang Xue Mei on her phone, hinting at more challenges to come:
