Chapter 13: Defend the Carrot (Part 3)

Watching Jian Shi wield his giant scythe, the other players were all left with tears of envy.

“Oh my god, this guy is way too cool! I’d trade everything I have for that piece of equipment!”

That was clearly the comment of a game fanatic.

An Suisui didn’t have time to mess around with them—she was anxiously searching for where the missing ants had gone.

Jian Shi had also noticed something was off with the number of ants.

But he couldn’t leave the first line of defense, so he had to leave the cleanup to the other players.

Living up to expectations, An Suisui finally found a pitch-black round hole in a hidden corner.

It was a tunnel dug by the ants!

Her pupils contracted. An Suisui immediately notified the others, “Forget about the ants in front—Jian Shi’s guarding them, they can’t break through. These ants are digging tunnels, and some have already gotten through to the back!”

As she spoke, An Suisui rushed down the slope, killed the ants around the hole she’d found, and then blocked the small hole with rocks, finally letting out a sigh of relief.

The other players, who had been idle, slapped their foreheads in regret when they heard her, and quickly spread out to check the surroundings.

Ants are experts at tunneling—how could they have forgotten something so important?

An Suisui then ran over to the carrot, just in case any stragglers tried to attack it while no one was watching.

Ants kept spawning at the refresh point. Jian Shi cleared out as many as he could, but some still tunneled underground, creating even more complex passages.

The other players were running around in chaos, while An Suisui focused all her attention on guarding the rear.

Her endurance was good, her speed was fast, and her strength had improved since the last game.

Compared to Jian Shi, who was dominating the front lines, her support work in the back was flawless—no ant could escape her pursuit.

But as time went on, even An Suisui started to get tired.

The others were in even worse shape—some couldn’t even lift their arms.

Finally, the small monsters at the spawn point stopped appearing. An Suisui collapsed onto the ground, relaxing every muscle and letting her body rest as much as possible.

She slowly looked up at the sky.

Was the first wave of monsters finally over?

No, not yet.

The number “10” still hung high in the sky, unchanged.

But by now, the players were in bad shape—even Jian Shi had put away his scythe and was leaning against a wall, panting.

An Suisui heard a faint sound and quickly looked toward the spawn point.

A black jaw emerged from behind the twisted wall, slowly pushing through and revealing its true form to everyone.

“Oh my god, is that an ant too…”

An Suisui took one look and felt her scalp tingle.

What came out was a giant ant, many times larger than any of the black ants they’d seen before.

Judging by its swollen abdomen, its identity was obvious.

The ant queen.

Jian Shi’s eyes darkened, and the black scythe reappeared in his hand.

The players slowly gathered around Jian Shi.

Even though the giant ant was terrifying, if they didn’t deal with this boss, they’d only end up failing.

An Suisui didn’t approach, choosing instead to keep guarding the carrot.

She had a feeling this big ant wasn’t just about size—there had to be more tricks up its sleeve.

As soon as the ant queen left the spawn point, Jian Shi charged in and landed a blow.

But seeing the long, thick health bar above the queen’s head, all the players felt a heavy weight in their hearts.

This was going to be tough.

They raised their wooden sticks, carefully adjusting their angles, ready to ambush at any moment.

The ant queen swung her sharp jaws, forcing the players back, but didn’t advance further. Instead, she crouched down in front of the spawn point.

One by one, gleaming white ant eggs dropped to the ground, hatching at incredible speed into fist-sized black soldier ants.

“Oh my god, this is definitely a boss! As if a boss isn’t scary enough, it even comes with endless minions—how are we supposed to fight this?”

The players gripped their sticks tighter. What else could they do?

Just grit their teeth and fight.

Jian Shi paused mid-swing, his gaze sweeping over the ant eggs the queen kept producing. He said to the others, “I’ll handle the queen, you guys attack the eggs.”

He’d already tried—ant eggs had about half the health of the ants, and were much easier to deal with before they hatched.

Any eggs that weren’t destroyed in time would hatch and quickly scurry away underground.

Jian Shi glanced back at An Suisui’s figure.

Thank goodness there was at least one reliable person in this group.

This little girl might look soft and delicate, but her determination was beyond his expectations.

Her personal abilities were impressive too—her speed was incredible, probably even better than his.

The other players knew they couldn’t handle the queen, so they all targeted the unhatched eggs.

An Suisui made full use of her speed, darting around the carrot and swinging her stick. Eventually, after one particularly hard hit, her stick snapped in two.

She gritted her teeth—there was no time to find a new weapon.

She picked up a rock and started smashing the black ants in front of her.

With everyone working together, the ant queen’s health bar finally hit zero.

An Suisui killed the last black ant and collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.

She didn’t even care about the ant corpses everywhere—she just wanted to rest.

Finally, the red number in the sky began to change, rolling down from ten to nine.

They’d survived the first wave!

An Suisui finally let her guard down, exhaling heavily and letting herself sprawl on the ground.

If the first wave of monsters was this tough, what would the next ones be like?

Was the difficulty of this game going to be ridiculously high?

As she was lost in thought, a crisp “ding-dong” sounded in her ear.

An Suisui, who had played countless games, recognized the sound immediately.

Game companies loved to use this sound for receiving coins.

She slowly opened her eyes and looked around. The ant corpses had all disappeared, leaving behind glowing objects.

What were those?

She reached out to the nearest glowing orb. As soon as her hand touched it, it burst open, turning into a brand-new pair of sneakers.

Defeating monsters gives you shoes?

She picked up the sneakers, and a window popped up showing their stats.
