Chapter 122: The Double-Sided Treasure Mirror

Big Boss Builds Infrastructure in the Interstellar Era

Yun Qimu reflexively kicked out, sending the dozen or so little Jingjing beasts clustered around her feet tumbling to the ground with a chorus of “jing-jing” cries. But they quickly scrambled back up on their tiny hooves, still making those cute, fierce noises as they butted her with their little horns.

They were actually pretty adorable—so much so that she almost couldn’t bring herself to strike them.

To borrow Pei Yu’s overly sentimental words: “How could anyone bear to kill such cute little Jingjings?”

But for the sake of delicious Jingjing beast meat, she ultimately raised her guilty golden axe.

She enlarged the axe, kicked out first, then brought it down—one swing per little Jingjing.

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 Bronze Treasure Chest!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 Silver Treasure Chest!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 Silver Treasure Chest!]

The system notifications chimed in her ears one after another, nonstop. The feeling—damn, it was exhilarating.

Yun Qimu’s lips curled into a delighted, savage grin. She swung her axe with increasing vigor, looking every bit the emotionless executioner, her strikes growing even more forceful.

Completely unaware that her appearance had terrified Pei Dapang, who was fighting monsters nearby, Yun Qimu was still inwardly savoring her joy. Wu Xingyu’s ability was really something else—way more satisfying than whack-a-mole, especially with monsters like these that didn’t bleed or leave corpses, only dropped treasure chests. Hahaha, what a rush!

Two minutes later, when Wu Xingyu’s ability ended, Yun Qimu reluctantly put down her axe.

Then, under Wu Xingyu’s pitch-black cat-like gaze, she reached for the nearest silver treasure chest at her feet.

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 slab of Jingjing beast meat!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 pack of apple seeds!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 defensive jade pendant!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 pile of campfire wood!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 pack of salt!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 bottle of chili powder!]

Another lucky six-item draw, but compared to the last six-item draw from the previous Jingjing beast, the loot this time was a bit underwhelming.

Still, with just one chest, it was too soon to tell if Wu Xingyu’s bad luck was rubbing off on her. So Yun Qimu’s mood was still pretty good, and she even opened the chest wide for Wu Xingyu to see.

“Hey, like we agreed—70/30 split. I’ll be generous this time; you can pick whichever item you like best, and I’ll throw in the salt as a bonus.”

Wu Xingyu’s eyes lit up, his long, dark lashes fluttering as his gaze landed on the most precious item inside—the defensive jade pendant.

Last time, thanks to his lucky badge, he’d finally had a stroke of good fortune and drawn a defensive jade pendant along with an exorcism coin. After seeing its stats, he knew it was a real treasure—especially for someone as unlucky as him. He needed to stock up on these.

If disaster ever struck and his life was in danger, the pendant could at least offer some protection.

So, thick-skinned, he reached right in and grabbed the best item, saying coolly, “I want this defensive jade pendant.”

And he had no intention of giving it back.

But Yun Qimu didn’t react the way he expected. She just lazily lifted her eyelids and replied offhandedly, “Sure, the pendant’s yours. The salt too.”

“Uh…”

Wu Xingyu, who had already prepared arguments to fight for his share, was left completely at a loss.

But as chest after chest was opened, with six-item draws each time, he soon understood why Yun Qimu, the notorious money-grubber, was being so generous.

Her luck was just too good. The defensive jade pendant he treated as a precious treasure dropped for her almost once every three chests.

After opening twenty-seven treasure chests, she already had nine defensive jade pendants in hand. Seeing how much he liked them, she even gave him an extra one!

Is this what it means to be blessed by the RNG gods?

Wu Xingyu pressed his lips together in silence.

Now he truly understood the meaning of “envy.”

But Yun Qimu, the queen of luck herself, wasn’t all that satisfied.

The loot from all these silver chests was just so-so. This time, she’d gotten a bunch of everyday items like oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar—stuff she’d never drawn before—as well as practical but cheap things like thermos flasks and heavy quilts. There wasn’t a single eye-catching item, let alone a card.

Could it be that Wu Xingyu’s bad luck really was affecting her?

She rubbed her hands together and reached for the last silver treasure chest.

Let’s see what’s in this last one. If she still didn’t get anything good, she’d have to try opening chests separately from Wu Xingyu.

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 Jingjing beast rib!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 Bright Torch!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 pair of Martin boots!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 Strength Ring!]

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 Prank Caterpillar!]

Yun Qimu: …Damn it, Wu Xingyu really is cursed. What kind of junk is this?

It was all worthless odds and ends—even the Jingjing meat had gone from a whole slab to a single rib.

Until, finally, the last system notification popped up, slow and unhurried.

[Ding dong—Congratulations, player has obtained 1 Double-Sided Treasure Mirror!]

“Oh? Now that’s something new.” Yun Qimu’s eyes lit up as she reached for it.

[Name: Double-Sided Treasure Mirror]

Level: A (Upgradeable)

Description: A magical artifact that sees into the human heart. The front reflects the seven emotions and six desires—illusory as a dream, empty in the end. The back reveals stark white bones, shattered weapons, and ruin—misfortune that comes at a price.

Effect: The front can reveal the evil thoughts or secret loves in a person’s heart; the back can draw a person inside to experience a malicious illusion—if they survive, they are reborn; if not, they fall into the abyss of death.

Note: The outcome depends on the target’s strength and other factors. Death is not guaranteed. More uses await player discovery.

Yun Qimu stroked the exquisite, dark gold and red-copper mirror, inlaid with gemstones, feeling a surge of delight.

This was a pretty useful item. Used well, it could definitely be a trump card.

“What’s that?” Wu Xingyu asked, curiosity piqued as he leaned in for a look.

“Something good, obviously,” Yun Qimu replied cheerfully. Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she suddenly thrust the front of the mirror in front of Wu Xingyu.

Caught off guard, Wu Xingyu was reflected squarely in the mirror. A flash of spiritual light, and an image appeared inside.

Yun Qimu’s curiosity peaked. Before Wu Xingyu could reach for the mirror, she stepped up beside him, eyes wide as she stared at the reflection.

Inside the mirror was a grand, resplendent hall, filled with mountains of spirit coins piled so high they touched the ceiling.

Yun Qimu:

A true money-grubber, through and through!

Wu Xingyu, however, looked completely bewildered, staring at the mountain of spirit coins inside. Wasn’t this the scene from his dream last night, where he was the richest man in the world?

How did it end up in the mirror?"
