Chapter 113: Buguo’s Skills

Building Infrastructure in a Data Driven World

Su You took the fang dagger out of her backpack and displayed it in front of Yun Li.

After all, this was a blue-quality weapon, and Yun Li, as the leader of a trade caravan, had a discerning eye. She could naturally tell that this fang dagger was extraordinary and quite valuable.

“Lord Su, may I take a look at this dagger?” This time, it wasn’t Yun Li who spoke, but a middle-aged man who had been standing slightly behind her.

Although Su You didn’t know who he was, she could guess from experience that he was likely the caravan’s negotiator.

A negotiator, as the name suggests, is a professional skilled in bargaining, able to secure better deals for their side during transactions.

A caravan leader isn’t necessarily a negotiator, but every caravan needs one—otherwise, they’d just be at the mercy of others.

“Please.” Su You handed the fang dagger over without hesitation.

Meanwhile, while no one was paying attention, Buguo, who had been standing behind Su You, quietly moved to her side.

Buguo recalled what Su You had told her earlier, straightened up, and focused her bright black eyes on the middle-aged man, carefully observing his expression.

After about a minute, the man returned the dagger and whispered a few words to Yun Li.

“This fang dagger is of good quality. Lord Su, what price do you have in mind?” Yun Li was pleasantly surprised after hearing the man’s assessment.

Although she knew the dagger was excellent, she couldn’t praise it too much out loud. After all, complimenting the other party’s goods only gave them room to raise the price—she’d just be digging a hole for herself. So Yun Li only said it was “not bad.”

But while she said “not bad,” she was actually very satisfied with the dagger.

She had thought this was just a small territory, and even if they had something decent to offer, it wouldn’t be anything remarkable. Who would have thought Lord Su would present a dagger made from wild boar tusks right off the bat?

And the craftsmanship was superb!

Since the item was good, Yun Li definitely didn’t want to miss out.

You have to know, among all tradable goods, equipment and weapons are the easiest to price and the most desirable. Even if they can’t sell them, they can use them themselves.

Strengthening their own forces is, in a way, increasing their trading power.

What’s more, as luck would have it, one of their caravan members happened to use daggers!

In other words, as long as Su You’s asking price wasn’t outrageous—even if it was a bit above their expectations—Yun Li would still buy it.

“Captain Yun, I’m sure you can tell the quality of this dagger, so I won’t go into details. As for the price…” Su You paused, as if considering, “Twenty gold coins, or the equivalent in other goods or materials.”

Twenty gold coins was actually a high price.

Although the dagger was blue-quality, its blade was only made of copper due to material limitations, which restricted its attributes and thus its price.

Its true value lay in two aspects: the wild boar tusk blade, and the “Sharp” prefix.

But in business, prices only go down from the opening offer, so starting a bit high was normal. Yun Li wasn’t surprised by Su You’s quote.

It was high, but not unreasonably so—there was still room to negotiate.

Yun Li didn’t reply directly. Instead, she glanced at the middle-aged man, who stepped forward and smiled at Su You. “Lord Su, that’s a bit much. If the blade were iron, the price would be fair, but it’s only copper… How about thirteen gold coins?”

He slashed a third off the price with one sentence. Su You glanced at him but didn’t respond.

“What’s wrong with a copper blade? This dagger is enchanted! How can an enchanted weapon be priced the same as an ordinary one?” Buguo suddenly spoke up, surprising everyone except Su You.

They had already wondered why Lord Su had a child with her. Now it seemed… could this child be her negotiator?

The middle-aged man’s carefully prepared arguments were thrown off by Buguo’s age.

It wasn’t that he looked down on her, but she was just so young…

Although Buguo was almost fifteen, not exactly a child but not quite grown, years of wandering and malnutrition had left her so thin that she could easily pass for ten. No wonder the man was so surprised.

“Little girl, you might not know this, but while enchanted weapons are valuable, not all of them are worth much.” The man didn’t understand why their negotiator was a kid, but since Lord Su didn’t object, he could only go along and talk to Buguo.

Buguo blinked. His words went in one ear and out the other.

“Sure, some enchanted weapons aren’t worth much, but ours is valuable,” she said, not letting him interrupt. “This enchantment increases the dagger’s sharpness by nearly half. How can that compare to other enchantments?”

“Half?!” The man was stunned, caught off guard by Buguo’s claim.

But he was a professional. Even though he couldn’t believe he’d almost been convinced by a child, he quickly composed himself.

“Little girl, don’t exaggerate. I’ve seen plenty of enchanted weapons. At most, this dagger is worth thirteen gold coins.”

Buguo pouted, looking a bit helpless. “Uncle, maybe you have seen a lot of enchanted weapons, but as you said, there are many kinds. Have you seen one like ours?”

“You might not get it just by looking. Why don’t you try it out? You’ll see if I’m telling the truth.” As she spoke, Buguo took the fang dagger from Su You and handed it to the man.
