Chapter 141: A Wave of Dog Food Incoming

Fierce Aboriginal Woman from the 80s

On their way home, Wu Hu privately asked Fang Yuan, “What’s going on with you? Why are you carrying a hot water bottle when you go out?”

“You were never this delicate at home, were you?”

Fang Yuan shot him a glance. “The doctor said, if we want a baby, we have to be careful.”

Wu Hu said, “Wait, when did you see a doctor? Or is it your husband who’s in a hurry?”

As her big brother, Wu Hu really cared about his little sister. He was anxious about this too, but he didn’t want Fang Yuan to shoulder all the pressure herself.

But Fang Yuan just replied, “Shouldn’t he be anxious? If I get pregnant, it’s his kid too. Why shouldn’t he be worried?”

Wu Hu was left speechless by Fang Yuan. He couldn’t say, “I’m just worried you’ll feel pressured, or get blamed at home for not having a child.”

He started to wonder if he was just meddling unnecessarily. Here he was worrying, and she didn’t even appreciate it.

Wu Hu looked at Fang Yuan—she was his own sister, so he couldn’t get mad. He tried to comfort her, “Don’t stress too much about having a baby. Look at your sisters-in-law, none of them got pregnant in the first year or so either.”

But Fang Yuan’s train of thought was something Wu Hu could never keep up with. She said, “Am I really worse than that loose woman? Wu Hu, do you think there’s something wrong with our family?”

Wu Hu was about to explode at Fang Yuan. He let the first part slide, but the second part he had to address: “Did your husband say that?”

Fang Yuan was much tougher than Wu Hu. “He wouldn’t dare.”

Wu Hu thought, Yeah, I doubt he would. His expression softened a bit. “But you can’t put down your own family like that.”

Fang Yuan said, “Then tell me, why haven’t I gotten pregnant yet?” She was really pushing her own family to the edge.

Wu Hu refused to discuss this with his sister. How would he know? It definitely wasn’t because there was something wrong with their family. The Fang family couldn’t possibly have a problem.

He forced himself to comfort Fang Yuan, “Don’t worry, you two are still young. Your husband is still in school.”

Fang Yuan replied, “But he’s not that young. When our eldest brother was his age, he already had a son.”

Wu Hu said, “Don’t overthink it. I’ll talk to your husband and tell him not to stress.”

Fang Yuan immediately snapped, “What? You should tell him to be anxious! Don’t you know how to comfort people? Wu Hu, you’re not helping at all.”

Wu Hu was left feeling completely confused. Who was the one who wanted a baby, and who was the one struggling to get pregnant? Why was it all so hard to figure out?

That evening, Wu Hu dragged Lu Chuan out for a drink. Lu Chuan wasn’t too keen. “Wu Hu, it’s cold at night. If we go back to the house, we’ll bring in the cold air. Let’s not go.”

He added, “Leaving Fang Yuan home alone is boring. Why don’t we invite her along, or just buy some food and eat at home?”

But Wu Hu just dragged him out anyway—for drinks.

No matter how close he was to Lu Chuan, they still needed to talk about the baby issue. Wu Hu asked, “Brother-in-law, are you in a hurry to have a kid?”

Lu Chuan was half-heartedly keeping Wu Hu company, but his mind was on his wife. “Not really.”

Wu Hu pressed, “Then are you worried Fang Yuan can’t get pregnant? Is that why you’re rushing her to go to the hospital? I’m just asking, nothing else.”

Lu Chuan finally focused on Wu Hu, realizing why he’d insisted on drinking on such a cold night. He couldn’t help but laugh.

Wu Hu thought, I’m being serious here, what’s so funny?

Lu Chuan said, “Wu Hu, I wasn’t the one who wanted to go. If she doesn’t get pregnant this month, Fang Yuan will probably think I’m the one with a problem and drag me to the hospital.”

Wu Hu didn’t dare say that was impossible—after all, Fang Yuan had asked him to tell Lu Chuan to be anxious about having a baby. There was no arguing with that.

He really wanted to figure out what was going on with this couple. Otherwise, he wouldn’t know how to explain things to their parents when he got home.

Wu Hu remembered what Fang Yuan had said. “So you’re not the one in a hurry to have a kid?”

Lu Chuan replied casually, but there was a deeper meaning if you thought about it: “We’ve only been married a month. What’s the rush?”

Wu Hu was dumbfounded by this unexpected answer. The timing didn’t add up—they’d clearly been married for half a year. “A month?”

Lu Chuan shut his mouth and said nothing more. Wu Hu would have to figure out the timeline himself.

No wonder they were siblings—Wu Hu eventually got it, but his thoughts went in an unexpected direction. “So at first, you weren’t interested in my sister?”

Lu Chuan protested, “Wu Hu, don’t accuse me. Whether I liked her or not, do you think I had any say in what happened at home, in the house, or outside?”

Lu Chuan’s point was painfully clear and honest.

Wu Hu believed him and nodded. “That’s true.” With Fang Yuan’s personality, it didn’t really matter what Lu Chuan thought.

Lu Chuan had successfully passed this test.

After that, Lu Chuan relaxed. “If there’s no baby after just one month, she wants to rush to the hospital. Wu Hu, you know how impatient she is. I can’t help but laugh when I think about it.”

Wu Hu kicked him. “What are you laughing at?” But honestly, his sister really was something else—he didn’t know what to say.

Lu Chuan coughed lightly. “Actually, it’s good to have the doctor check her out and help her get healthier.”

Wu Hu said, “Brother-in-law, I’ve noticed you’ve changed a lot since coming to the provincial capital. You’re getting better at spending money—now you’re buying medicine even when you’re not sick.”

Lu Chuan looked up at Wu Hu and admitted quickly, “I’ll change.”

What else could he do? Could he say, “Wu Hu, you and Fang Yuan actually react the same way”?

Lu Chuan said, “Wu Hu, don’t worry about the baby. Let Fang Yuan do what she wants. If we really can’t have one in a couple of years, we’ll both go get checked out.”

He wasn’t shy about seeing a doctor or anything. Wu Hu said, “Don’t just let her do whatever she wants.”

Lu Chuan smiled again. “Wu Hu, I think it’s great.”

Wu Hu felt like someone had stuffed a greasy ball into his stomach—he was completely overwhelmed.

From now on, he decided it was best not to get involved in their affairs. “Brother-in-law, when I came to the provincial capital, our mom told me to keep an eye on things—not because she was worried you’d bully Fang Yuan, but to see how you two were getting along.”

Lu Chuan muttered, “If anything, Mom should be worried about Fang Yuan bullying me.”

Wu Hu couldn’t deny it. “We’re all family—no one should bully anyone. But I really won’t get involved anymore. It just makes me feel bad.”

Lu Chuan looked at Wu Hu with an expression that said, “We’re getting along fine, so why do you feel bad?” He really didn’t understand Wu Hu’s change in attitude.

Wu Hu said, “I want to get married too. I want to find someone I can give my whole heart to.”

Lu Chuan looked proud—he was being envied by Wu Hu.

Then Wu Hu asked, “Brother-in-law, what do you actually like about Fang Yuan?” He was genuinely asking for advice—he really didn’t get it.

He must have been drunk to ask that. Otherwise, that’s not something a brother-in-law would say.

As Lu Chuan helped Wu Hu home, he said, “Whenever I see Fang Yuan, I just want to smile. I just feel happy, happy from the bottom of my heart.”

Wu Hu replied, “Even when she doesn’t spend money on you, you’re happy?”

Lu Chuan said, “Yeah, but if I can coax her into spending money on me, I’m even happier. Wu Hu, just thinking about her makes me happy.”
