Chapter 44: Chapter 44
I Farm and Plant Trees in the Global Game
“Help! The zombies are coming!”
“Sob, I don’t want to die!”
...
“Isn’t this a bit too cruel?” someone from the Safe Zone said, hearing the cries and pleas from behind.
“If you feel bad, go back and save them yourself. Anyway, we’re not about to risk our lives for scum like that,” Liu Luoluo retorted loudly.
If it hadn’t been for Mu Ying, they’d have been in big trouble today. Kindness needs to be shown to the right people."
"Mu Ying didn’t care what the others thought. She stubbornly waited until the zombies were right in front of those people before releasing her Entanglement spell.
Those who had been shouting at the front got scratched by the zombies a few times. With them risking their lives to “hold up” the zombies, the people who had just come over to join the commotion behind actually had a chance to escape.
Scared out of their wits, they ran surprisingly fast—some even overtook Mu Ying and her group, who were still watching the zombies’ movements.
Among them, a few ran straight for the camp gate, clearly not lacking in money.
Seeing their panicked, lost expressions, someone loitering outside the camp grabbed one of them.
“What happened? Weren’t you guys going back to ‘help out’?”
He put extra emphasis on the words “help out.”
“Run! There’s a female killing machine in there who doesn’t show any mercy. The ones who made the most noise got fed to the zombies!”
After saying this, he glanced back at the large group approaching the camp, got even more frightened, and dashed inside—he needed to find a place to hide before that “female killing machine” spotted him!
“Boss, are we still sticking to the original plan?”
“Forget it, let’s get inside first and talk later!”
Inside the camp, Lao Mao, hiding in a corner, spat on the ground when he saw them come in. “Lucky bastards. If they really had the guts to stick with us to the end, I’d like to see that demon woman whip them a few times.”
Hearing this, Lao Mao’s lackeys all shivered in unison. The memory of that barbed whip was too vivid—they’d never dare try a second time.
“Boss, you know, money you earn yourself just feels more solid. No need to look at anyone else’s face.”
“No kidding! Who doesn’t want to stand tall and live with dignity? Come on, let’s go find a low-key spot to kill some zombies and make some cash.”
After returning to camp, Mu Ying stopped using magic to control the zombies. Like everyone else, she picked a spot at the edge of the territory and waited for the zombies to get close to the shield before attacking with her piercing spear.
At this point, only those using short-handled weapons or fighting in close combat needed to be careful—they might get scratched by zombies if they weren’t careful.
Mu Ying didn’t have to worry at all. During previous battles, she’d discovered that with Barkskin active, a zombie scratch would only leave a mark. Now was the perfect time to practice her spear skills.
[You killed a zombie ×1. Gained 1 Slaughter XP, 3 copper coins.]
[You killed a zombie ×1. Gained 1 Slaughter XP, 3 copper coins. Your Slaughter XP has reached the current level cap; further kills will not grant Slaughter XP.]
She didn’t know how many times she’d repeated the piercing motion—her arms felt numb, and stabbing had become pure instinct.
Her Slaughter XP finally hit the level cap. Mu Ying glanced at her character panel.
[Class: Druid Lv3 (224/600)]
With the XP she’d saved up over the past few days, her level 3 XP bar was about a third full.
Just today, she’d earned a whopping 180 XP from killing zombies—by far the majority.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t gain any more Slaughter XP for the rest.
With such a great opportunity today, almost everyone in the camp had maxed out their Slaughter XP quota thanks to this zombie wave. Now only their class XP was stuck at the level cap.
Those who usually focused on class training had even managed to level up.
Mu Ying stepped back. The only things that really interested her about zombies were the Slaughter XP and the boost to her combat skills.
Now that she was pretty proficient with the spear and had maxed out her Slaughter XP, killing more zombies wasn’t worth it.
As for the dropped copper coins, she wasn’t short on money anymore. The territory’s income had grown a lot over the past two days—more than enough for her needs.
By now, it was already dark. Rubbing her sore arms, she returned to her treehouse. “Gun Gun?”
The house was quiet.
“Did Gun Gun go out to eat?”
Mu Ying put her spear into her storage pouch and went out. As soon as she reached the entrance of Sera’s Eatery, she spotted a round little ball by the bar.
It was eating rapidly, its body quivering slightly.
Two girls stood nearby, holding food, seemingly wanting to feed it, but the little guy only focused on its own plate.
“Gun Gun,” Mu Ying called as she walked over.
Hearing her voice, Gun Gun whipped its head around. Once it confirmed it was really her, it snorted at the others, as if it had found its backer, and began to leisurely enjoy its meal.
“Is that your magical pet?” one of the girls asked.
“It’s my animal companion. It probably doesn’t like eating food from other people,” Mu Ying said, sitting down next to the little guy, amused. She strongly suspected Gun Gun just didn’t want anyone taking food from its own bowl to feed it.
“Oh, really? It’s just so cute. Can I pet it?” the girl asked, still not giving up.
“Uh, you can ask it,” Mu Ying said, tilting her chin at the little guy.
Before the girl could ask, Gun Gun shook its head vigorously: Absolutely not!
The girl stomped her foot in frustration and had to give up.
“Madam Sera, I’ll have the same meal as Gun Gun,” Mu Ying said, eyeing the little guy’s plate—it was all meat dishes, not cheap at all. This little one really knew how to enjoy life.
She’d had a good haul today, so she didn’t mind splurging a little to treat herself.
“I heard you all lured the zombies to the camp to kill them? Must’ve made a lot today—lots of people are ordering the pricier dishes,” Madam Sera said happily.
“Yeah, there are still plenty of zombies outside the camp. Everyone should be pretty well off after this wave,” Mu Ying replied, also in a good mood. The more people earned, the more they spent, and the more tax revenue for the territory.
With some extra money on hand, Mu Ying took the opportunity during dinner to build the aerial walkways she’d designed in advance.
