Chapter 48: Chapter 48

I Farm and Plant Trees in the Global Game

She checked the time—yep, it was daytime. Where could zombies come from? And underground, no less?

Muying didn’t dare to keep mining recklessly. Instead, she followed the sound to a stone block and carefully dug it up.

Beneath the stone was empty space.

A dark tunnel appeared, and Muying quickly placed a torch at the entrance.

Only then did she see that the tunnel led to a mossy stone-brick room.

The low growls came from there, and the familiar stench of decay filled the air.

All the figures in the room were drawn to Muying, crowding at the doorway.

The tunnel entrance was higher than the floor, so the zombies couldn’t reach her. For some reason, they also didn’t dare to leave the stone room.

“Hey, what a great chance to kill zombies,” Muying said, pulling some stones from her pocket and throwing them at the zombies.

She was already level 4, so killing zombies was much easier than before—three stones were enough to take one out.

But soon, she started to feel numb. Quite a bit of time had passed, but the number of zombies didn’t seem to decrease at all. It was as if for every one that died, another would rush out.

“How can such a small room hold so many zombies?”

Puzzled, she stopped and started digging toward the stone house, aiming for the roof to see what was inside.

After prying up a mossy stone brick and shining her torch inside, Muying finally got a clear look at the whole room.

Aside from the swarming zombies, what caught her attention most was a blood-red crystal floating in the center of the room.

Many struggling shadowy figures were trapped inside it, giving off a sinister vibe.

She flicked a stone at the crystal and, seeing the long health bar appear, finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“As long as it has a health bar!”

Even though the health bar was ridiculously long, her days of mining had trained her patience well.

Crack!

【You have shattered the Dungeon Core, freeing a small number of imprisoned souls. Gained Source Energy ×10】

“!”

Dungeon Core? Source Energy?

Muying grinned. “Now that’s a good find!”

She eyed the fragments that had fallen at the zombies’ feet. The restless zombies were really getting in her way, blocking her from picking up the loot.

This time, no more zombies appeared. In fact, after the dungeon core shattered, the zombies slowly melted away. It was slower than at sunrise, but they still disappeared.

Muying carefully blocked off the stone house’s main door before jumping down to collect her loot.

With the zombies gone, a treasure chest was revealed in the corner of the stone house.

She picked up the dungeon core fragments first.

【Broken Dungeon Core】

【Function: Damaged. Cannot be used for Source Energy or item conversion】

“Looks like I can only give this to the village chief,” Muying said regretfully, putting away the dungeon core and running to the treasure chest in the corner.

This chest looked different from the wooden ones she could craft herself—the golden trim made it look quite valuable.

Muying opened the chest.

“Enchanted Book (Infinity) ×1, Enchanted Book (Unbreaking) ×1, Gold Ingot ×21, Diamond ×5”

The chest glowed with treasure.

【Enchanted Book (Infinity)】

【Function: Enchant a bow to have infinite arrows】

【Item Conversion: 100 Source Energy per book】

【Item Description: Use on a bow to grant it the infinite arrows effect】

【Source Energy Conversion: Not available】

【Enchanted Book (Unbreaking)】

【Function: Enchant a weapon or tool to make it permanently durable】

【Item Conversion: 100 Source Energy per book】

【Item Description: Use on equipment to grant it auto-repair effect】

Muying was drooling over the two enchanted books—she wanted to convert both of them.

But as good as they were, they were also expensive. Like her backpack, once she converted them, the original item would be gone.

She couldn’t bear to use them now, so she carefully stashed them in her backpack.

The gold ingots and diamonds could be converted into ordinary gold and diamonds, but that wasn’t very useful.

Source energy conversion was more worthwhile. Gold ingots, being smelted from gold ore, couldn’t be converted into source energy, but ten diamonds could be exchanged for one point of source energy.

“I’m rich!”

She broke down the chest and packed it up, then hurried back to the surface.

By now, the trial time for the day was almost over. Luckily, she’d been timing her trials close to midnight these past few days.

That way, she could use two hours of trial time at once, doing a trial every other day, and spend four whole days in the block world each time.

With her loot in tow, she headed toward the village.

Halfway there, as night fell, she set down her single bed and lay down.

The night passed.

When she opened her eyes again, the setting sun had become the morning sun.

Muying quickly turned her head to look to the side.
