Chapter 55: Chapter 55

I Farm and Plant Trees in the Global Game

The riverbank was wide open, making it nearly impossible to approach unnoticed. Mu Ying didn’t dare charge in headlong to take on so many goblins at once.

She quietly retreated into the forest, planning to try her hand against the few goblins inside.

The six goblins worked together to haul lumber, carrying away the wood from one whole tree at a time.

Mu Ying lay in wait in the bushes. After the goblins left with a load, she watched as the remaining ones felled another tree and two of them moved in to break down the trunk. When the three goblins were closest together, she cast Thunderwave.

Invisible sound waves rippled out, leaving the three goblins dizzy. The one holding the axe nearly chopped off its own toes.

Seizing the moment, Mu Ying darted out of the bushes, closing in while casting Entangle to bind their hands, feet, and weapons.

Binding goblins wasn’t easy—they were short, but much more agile than zombies, and their struggles were stronger and more skillful.

Luckily, Mu Ying had gambled right: goblins were weak to mental attacks, and Thunderwave was very effective.

To be extra safe, she also cast Fog Cloud to block their vision.

Then came the Oak Club spell combined with a spear thrust—she skewered the three goblins one after another like candied hawthorn.

“Phew~” Only after the kill notifications appeared did Mu Ying truly breathe a sigh of relief. Looks like as long as she was careful, killing goblins wasn’t a problem. Too bad she’d already maxed out her EXP for level 3 from killing zombies earlier.

Following the kill prompts, Mu Ying searched the goblins’ bodies for loot.

The goblin who’d been chopping trees seemed a bit richer—its axe was newer and it had more money.

The other two barely had a couple of coins in their pockets, and their machetes were not only old but also blunt. It must have been tough for them to work with such lousy blades.

The tattered clothes were just what the goblins were wearing—gray, covered in all sorts of unknown stains, as if they’d never been washed, caked with thick grime, and reeking to high heaven. Absolutely worthless.

Unlike zombies, copper coins didn’t just appear on the corpse—she had to hold her nose and dig them out herself.

Given the goblins’ appalling hygiene, Mu Ying figured she really needed to prepare a pair of gloves just for picking up loot.

“Sigh, this really is reality and not a game. Sometimes picking up loot feels just like rummaging through a trash heap—”

Her muttering was abruptly cut off as she found herself staring at seven or eight goblins dragging a wild boar out of the bushes ahead.

“Gibber jabber karaba!”

She couldn’t understand what they were saying, but their ferocious faces and furious tone made it clear this wasn’t going to end peacefully.

Worse yet, their gear and weapons were clearly much better than those of the woodcutting goblins—one even had a bow.

Mu Ying didn’t hesitate—she turned and ran.

Her flight only further enraged the goblins, who charged after her with reckless abandon.

Goblins were short and had short legs, but they weren’t slow at all. She didn’t manage to shake them off by much.

A short arrow whizzed past, striking her in the calf.

Mu Ying felt a sharp stab in her lower leg, nearly tripping her up.

Fortunately, she still had Barkskin active, so the arrow didn’t penetrate her calf—just barely stuck in before falling out.

It hurt, but it was bearable—nothing compared to running for her life.

She dashed madly, diving into every bush and thicket she could find. After being shot twice more, she finally made it out of the goblin archer’s range and slipped through the territory gates, shaken but safe.

It was the first time she’d returned to the territory in such a sorry state. She turned to glare back at the path she’d come from.

Unfortunately, the goblins didn’t approach the territory. They stopped a good distance away, shouting and jeering at her.

“...” I don’t know what you’re saying, but you’re definitely cursing me!

Unwilling to be outdone, Mu Ying shouted back in Mandarin, Common, Druidic, and Elvish, all at once.

Clearly, goblin education wasn’t up to par—they didn’t even know the Common tongue provided by the apocalypse game.

The pointless exchange ended as abruptly as it began. Sooner or later, she’d pay them back for those two arrows!

“You went out just to hunt goblins?”

Lu You rushed over after hearing the commotion, only catching a glimpse of the goblins’ retreating figures.

“Killed a few stragglers, then ran into a hunting party and got shot twice,” Mu Ying replied, rolling up her pant leg and sleeve as she spoke.

There were fingernail-sized wounds on her calf and arm. Her pet, Silver, was crouched nearby, blowing on them in concern.

“...” Lu You stared at her almost comical arrow wounds, speechless. He said stiffly, “You’ve got some amazing constitution, huh!”

In their team, the same kind of arrow wound would still have the arrowhead stuck in it.

“Protective spells,” Mu Ying said briskly, healing herself. “I’ve still got some mana left—want me to patch up your badly wounded?”"

"After exhausting her mana in the official squad’s treehouse, Mu Ying stopped by the Mercenary Guild on her way back.

“Kerry, I’d like to post a quest.”

“Alright, please come with me.”

Kerry led her to a room on one side of the main hall, which also had a quest terminal.

“This is the quest posting terminal, just like the one outside. Insert your ID card and you can operate it.”

Mu Ying nodded—she knew how to do this.

After inserting her ID card, a quest creation interface appeared before her. She entered the quest details one by one.
