Chapter 116: "Conqueror F-Type Off-Road RV":

I Farm In The Apocalypse

---

Yang Yang turned his head and looked up at the pitch-black sky. "It’s in the U.S.," he said.

Jing Shu blinked in confusion. "What?"

Yang Yang glanced at her bewildered expression and coughed before explaining, "Yes, you heard right—it’s still in the U.S. It’s not the kind of vehicle anyone can just buy. It’s a top-tier military model with a price tag of 13 million. The German-made MAN 8x8 Conqueror F-Type Off-Road RV, equipped with a MAN 6-cylinder, 24-valve, inline turbocharged engine..."

Before Yang Yang could continue, Jing Shu’s excitement got the better of her, and she exclaimed:

"Is it the one with the non-load-bearing chassis, a wading depth of 1.83 meters, featuring snow mode, desert mode, swamp mode with all-terrain tires, a rooftop liftable terrace, solar power system on the roof, with a rugged, military-style exterior made of high-strength fiberglass, and a luxurious interior where you can even host a pool party on the terrace?"

Yang Yang gave her a thumbs-up. "You’re well-informed! That’s the one. There are a few in China, but they’re all taken. The U.S. model I’m talking about is the latest top-spec version this year. What I’m offering comes at a much lower cost than anything you’d get in China."

Jing Shu paused and rubbed her ears. "Wait, wait... what did you say earlier?"

"I said it’s a German MAN..."

"No, before that."

"Military vehicles aren’t available to just anyone..."

"No, even earlier."

"It’s in the U.S..."

Jing Shu let out a deep sigh and flicked the ear she had been rubbing. "That’s it! So, basically, you’re offering me a pipe dream? How am I supposed to get it back from the U.S.? It’s halfway across the globe! Are you expecting me to put it on a plane and fly it over?"

Come on, this is halfway around the world! Even before the apocalypse, it would’ve been difficult to ship something like that, let alone now, post-apocalypse. If she had that kind of capability, she’d be living in the clouds by now.

Moments ago, Jing Shu had been on an emotional rollercoaster, almost jumping for joy at the thought that Yang Yang could help her get such an incredible vehicle.

In her previous life, she had first heard about this type of vehicle in the sixth year of the apocalypse, when she saw one driving through the snowy terrain in Sichuan. It had left her utterly awestruck. As the snow piled up higher than a person, most energy vehicles failed, but that RV had defied the laws of physics, climbing vertical slopes as if the snowy mountains weren’t even there. It was agile—more like a nimble beast than a bulky RV.

In this life, Jing Shu had originally planned to upgrade her space enough to store her BYD Song SUV for migration. She figured she could drive when the terrain allowed and use her space when it didn’t.

That’s why she had dismissed ordinary RVs—they wouldn’t cut it in the apocalypse. The terrain would only worsen over the years, with the world’s landscape shifting dramatically. Most roads would be unusable, so what good would a standard RV be? You wouldn’t be able to drive it across deserts, swamps, or snowy mountains.

Plus, with fuel heavily rationed, while staying local you could get by with electric charging. But once you started migrating, you’d barely make it a day before needing to stop and recharge. Sure, connections could get you fuel, but at a steep cost.

However, with an all-terrain RV like this, climbing mountains or crossing rough terrain wouldn’t be a problem. Best of all, sleeping in a cozy, 20°C RV while the temperature outside dropped to -50°C would be a dream come true. The harsh cold of the migration had been a significant factor in why so many people died.

When Jing Shu had first looked up the German MAN off-road RV, she had been blown away by its specs.

Its rugged, dark exterior looked like a massive cargo truck—rough and unassuming—but the interior was lavish beyond words. Jing Shu was particularly fond of the liftable rooftop terrace, which could be converted into a pool or a water storage area. The terrace could also be used for growing plants or raising animals.

In her previous life, she hadn’t dared to dream of owning such a vehicle. But in this life, to think she had actually come across information about it...

The catch? It was still considered a "target object" and, worse, it was in the U.S.

Great.

All that excitement for nothing. Jing Shu’s mood plummeted, her enthusiasm evaporating. What was Yang Yang suggesting? That she go to the U.S. and steal an RV? Her space wasn’t large enough to fit something that big, and it wasn’t like she could just wait a few years until migration time came around.

So yes, women can change moods faster than flipping a page in a book. Just moments ago, Jing Shu had been over the moon with excitement, and now she was utterly deflated.

Yang Yang couldn’t have known that, in those few seconds, Jing Shu had already envisioned getting the RV, customizing it, and living the apocalypse alongside it. She had gone through the entire process in her head, only to be brought back to reality with the realization that it wasn’t possible.

"To be honest," Yang Yang continued, "we’re on a covert mission. Everything we do, we do on our own. We go in, we come back. If we fail, it’s like I, Yang Yang, never existed. And even if we succeed, there won’t be any victory parades waiting for us."

"No matter what trouble we stir up, even if we’re exposed and die abroad, no one will intervene—not even the higher-ups. So that RV is part of our plan for survival. If we succeed in our mission, we’ll ship the vehicle to China."

"My point is, we can get the RV to the Chinese border for you. But from there, you’ll have to figure out the rest. Just a heads-up: we won’t have any diesel or gasoline for it either. Even in the U.S., we’ll have to find our own supplies for day-to-day needs. Getting the RV to the Chinese border is the best we can do."

Jing Shu’s eyes brightened like stars in the night sky. Yang Yang could practically see the excitement radiating from her.

Jing Shu’s mind raced. If the RV were in the U.S., there was no way she could retrieve it herself. She might as well focus on trying to get a similar model within China.

But if it were brought to the Chinese border, despite the challenges with space limitations, surveillance, and the sheer size of the vehicle, there had to be a legitimate way to acquire it.

"Wait..." Jing Shu’s sharp instincts kicked in. She asked, "You said you’d ship it over the border? Does that mean you’re planning to bring back other things from the U.S.? There’s no way a single RV would justify the logistics of an entire ship—so you must be transporting more, right?"

That was it. What kind of pull would it take to ship just one RV across the ocean? There had to be more to the shipment, and the RV was just a part of it.

Yang Yang raised an eyebrow. "You catch on quickly. Yes, we’re planning to bring something back. You’ll find out soon enough. So, do you want the RV or not? I can arrange to get it to China, but fair warning—it could take months, maybe longer. There’s also a chance the mission fails, and you’ll lose your investment entirely."
