Chapter 122: Su Mei Mei Swollen from Bee Stings

I Farm In The Apocalypse

Su Mei Mei added fuel to the fire: "What a terrible fate! That poor old woman was eaten alive by the corpse-eating insects, leaving only her clothes behind. One victim was twisted beyond recognition, and another was covered in stab wounds. When the families of the elderly woman and Liu Dong, who had been slashed hundreds of times, found the bodies, they cried so hard, saying that they would tear the murderer to pieces if they ever found them."

Su Mei Mei’s words hit the group chat like a stone thrown into still water, causing a ripple of chaos.

- Shi Zi 21-1F-02 (Male): "I always thought it was strange how five people from our community just disappeared out of nowhere. After Wang Qiqi reported them missing, we even went to their homes to take blankets, clothes, and dishes. Shouldn’t the people who took their things now come forward and give them back?"

- Zhang Feng 3F-03 (Male): "@Xiao Shu Villa District, I just found out the five people were brutally murdered. Was it you? You sure know how to act innocent."

- Zhu Fan 7F-5F-01 (Male): "Shocking! Is it a distortion of human nature or a collapse of morality that led a young woman to torture her neighbors?"

The group erupted in chaos, with accusations flying, arguments breaking out, and even some of the victim’s families threatening to come and kill Jing Shu.

- Young Lady with Baby 13F: "Without evidence, don’t accuse people randomly. When my family of three was on the verge of death, it was Jing Shu who took us to the hospital in the middle of the night and stayed with my child all night, saving our lives. How could someone like her torture others?"

- Wang Xuemei: "When my home was robbed, @Xiao Shu Villa District gave us food. Later, when I was assaulted, it was she who avenged me. She’s a hundred times better than you people who just talk but never act. If anyone dares to accuse her without proof, I’ll come with a knife myself. The government? Who cares? All I know is, when my family was dying, she was the one who pulled us through."

- Fat Girl 25F: "@Xiao Shu Villa District gave us frogs when no one else would, and now we’re free of maggots and corpse-eating insects. How many people here have benefited from her help? Why is it that you all believe this woman just because she says a few words?"

- Wang Qiqi: "Everyone, calm down. Let’s hear what @Xiao Shu Villa District has to say first. Don’t judge based on someone’s words without knowing the truth."

Jing Shu watched the situation unfold with cold eyes. It’s in moments like these, when people are in distress, that you see their true nature. She couldn’t stand those who, without investigating, judged based solely on hearsay, acting as if they knew the whole truth.

Jing Shu quickly typed on her phone:

- Jing Shu: "Su Mei Mei, reports must be made under real names. Tell me who filed the complaint, and I’ll confront them directly. How did they know I was there from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.? What were they doing during that time?"

- Su Mei Mei: "They reported it because they saw you committing the crime."

- Jing Shu: "Then I have to ask, if they saw me committing a crime, why didn’t they call right away to report a body and earn a lot of work points? Why did they wait until the bodies were discovered days later? Your story doesn’t add up. If you’re going to accuse someone, at least be smarter about it."

Jing Shu smiled as she typed, knowing that the public was still unaware of the big data system. It was classified.

Why? To catch even more people in the trap.

Su Mei Mei was fuming, unsure how to respond, and too afraid to mention big data. Then, a new idea sparked in her mind:

- Su Mei Mei: "Jing Shu, your dad works at a livestock farm, bringing home dozens of eggs every day. Your mom works at the Vegetable Management Department, bringing home vegetables daily. Am I wrong? Let’s bring a few people to visit your house and see if I’m lying. If you refuse to open the door, it’s because you’re guilty!"

If everyone was eating maggots and worms and couldn’t even get drinking water, they would be jealous. And now, Su Mei Mei was telling them that Jing Shu’s family was eating eggs and fresh vegetables every day. Half of the people in the chat instantly became envious.

Several people eagerly volunteered to visit, hoping to snatch some food. Of course, there were also those who had some decency or had been helped by Jing Shu, and they spoke up in her defense: "Her family can afford to raise frogs. What’s wrong with exchanging them for food?"

- Shi Zi: "I’ll go!"

- Zhang Feng: "Me too!"

- Zhu Fan: "Count me in."

Despite the objections from those with a sense of fairness, the lure of food was too strong. Su Mei Mei, eager to secure evidence against Jing Shu, led the group toward the villa, feeling triumphant.

"If she refuses to open the door, it means she’s obstructing justice, and her crime will be upgraded. If we get inside, there’s bound to be plenty of food, and if they can’t explain where it came from, we’ll confiscate it all... Bringing these people along will also serve as witnesses, so they can’t claim we got physical like last time."

As Su Mei Mei schemed and sweated while walking with the group, excitedly discussing how they would trap Jing Shu, she suddenly felt a sharp sting at the back of her neck. A wave of excruciating pain followed.

At the same time, she heard a buzzing sound near her ears. Soon, her arms, legs, and face were pierced by sharp stings. Su Mei Mei screamed in agony.

"Damn it, what is this? Flies?"

"Your flies bite? Run! I think they’re bees!"

The group only realized the truth after it was too late. The buzzing sound had become so common due to the abundance of maggots and flies that they hadn’t thought much of it until they were stung.

Su Mei Mei, though wracked with pain, ran along with the others until they reached the community guard station. Only then did they escape the swarm of bees. Out of breath, Su Mei Mei blinked in confusion, her vision suddenly blurry. She reached up and felt her swollen eyes.

Her eyes had swollen so badly that she could no longer see. Even the slightest touch sent a wave of pain through her, causing her to shudder.

At the guard station, the four of them finally let out their cries of pain. Su Mei Mei, whose lips were swollen from the stings, couldn’t even speak properly, mumbling incoherently as the pain and itching intensified. Unable to bear it any longer, she scratched at the swollen bumps, only for one to burst, oozing pus.

Screaming in pain, Su Mei Mei felt her body growing heavier, her vision failing.

Jing Shu stepped out of the darkness, watching Su Mei Mei’s pitiful state with a smile. Of the four, Su Mei Mei had suffered the worst, having received Jing Shu’s special attention.

"Oh my, what happened to you?" Jing Shu asked mockingly.
