Chapter 157: Don’t Let Your Hair Get Wet in the Rain...
I Farm In The Apocalypse
At first, Fei Niu thought her head was getting heavier because of the rain soaking her hair.
But as it got heavier and itchier, she couldn’t lift her head anymore. She casually reached up to touch her head and to her horror, she felt something strange—an entire handful of worms.
It felt like grabbing hundreds of tiny snakes. They were long and thin...
This wasn’t a maggot, nor was it a corpse worm! What was it?
The unknown is always more terrifying. The thought of hundreds of tiny snakes crawling on her head, ready to bite or suck her blood, sent shivers through Fei Niu’s entire body.
“Ahh! Ahhh!”
A piercing scream shattered the quiet of the neighborhood. Then came a panicked wail:
“Help! Help! There are so many snakes, so many worms in my hair! Waaahhhh!”
Fei Niu burst into tears, running toward the building. From behind, her hair seemed to grow by the minute, with hundreds of worms tangled in it, dragging behind her.
She shook her head frantically, trying to fling the red worms off. But it was useless. The worms clung to each other and her hair, like a horrifying mass of matted cloth.
The red worms were busy twisting and coiling around each other, pairing up. One end of the worm constantly searched for a mate.
Fei Niu tugged at the worms fiercely, trying to rip them from her hair, almost tearing her scalp in the process. But no matter how hard she pulled, the worms wouldn’t come off, and the feeling of her scalp going numb from the pulling only added to the horror.
As she gasped for air, she accidentally sucked in a mouthful of rainwater along with the red worms, filling her mouth with writhing worms. Without the rainwater to wash them down, the worms squirmed around in her mouth, jumping like pop rocks...
Fei Niu gagged and spat them out, but many of the worms, being so thin, tangled around her teeth.
The red worms reacted to the discomfort by latching onto her gums and lips with their tiny mouths, biting down hard.
Fei Niu’s mouth became a battlefield. She tried to spit them out, but couldn’t. Her hands, which were also covered in worms, tingled with the sensation of their movement. Some worms burrowed into her neck, jumping and twisting, making her itch uncontrollably as she rolled on the ground.
Once she finally made it inside the building to escape the rain, Fei Niu realized her entire body was covered in the terrifying worms...
“Help! Mom! What are these things?!”
“Oh my God, there are so many worms in the rain! What are they?”
“My hair! There are so many worms in my hair!”
Fei Niu wasn’t the only one experiencing this nightmare. Soon after she screamed, Wang Cuihua, Luo Zhu, and several others who had been bathing in the rain began to scream in terror as well.
Cries of horror echoed throughout the neighborhood.
This first encounter with the red worms left many people traumatized. Jing Shu had experienced it in her previous life and the memory left a deep psychological scar, which is why she had vowed never to come into contact with these worms again.
Before, neither maggots nor corpse worms would attack living people—unless someone was dead, those worms wouldn’t crawl all over them. People actively sought out maggots and corpse worms in the past. But today’s situation was entirely different.
And even if they were crawling on her, why were they burrowing? Why were they jumping? They made the entire body itch, and they loved to find any small hole to crawl into.
That’s exactly what red worms did. They loved to cling to human hair, especially thick and long hair, from which they would never come down.
This is why Jing Shu always said: never let your hair get wet in the rain.
When it rains, more and more red worms will cling to your hair. Some red worms will even start pairing up immediately, and those that move quickly will complete the act and lay eggs in the blink of an eye. Soon, the eggs will hatch into tiny 0.1-millimeter red worms.
Whatever you do, don’t let them lay eggs in your hair. Because once they start, they won’t stop. In her previous life, Jing Shu, not knowing any better, ran into the rain like a maniac to bathe. And the result?
Her long hair became entangled with thousands upon thousands of red worms. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t pull them out. Soon after, her hair and scalp were infested with eggs, which were impossible to remove because they were invisible to the naked eye and stuck firmly to her scalp. Her only option was to shave her head.
A few days later, your head would itch unbearably.
There would be countless tiny worms crawling and jumping around in your hair, and some would find their way into your ears, nostrils, or mouth...
At that point, there would be no clean water to wash your hair or body with. All the water was infested with red worms that couldn’t be filtered out. Washing would only make the situation worse.
Even towels and blankets that had been washed would become infested with red worms. There would be no way to remove the worms tangled in your hair, even with a comb.
The only thing left to do would be to shave off all your hair—yes, every single bit of it!
Otherwise, the consequences would be disastrous.
It wouldn’t be long before you’d see people at the supermarket with shaved heads—men and women alike. They weren’t following a new trend; they were forced to do it.
In fact, a few days later, the government would set up inspection points at supermarket entrances. They would have security guards stationed with clippers, ready to shave the heads of anyone coming in.
Otherwise, people would walk into the supermarket with ten or twenty pounds of red worms on their heads. They couldn’t be pulled off. Once inside, the worms would scatter everywhere—on the floors, walls, and shelves.
Sometimes, a person’s red worms would jump onto someone else’s head. Soon, those two people would be inseparable. And before long, the entire group of people would be stuck together.
What a lovely sight—one big, united family.
In her previous life, Jing Shu had seen this firsthand when she went to collect food at the supermarket. Everyone stood together, their expressions numb and defeated.
Those who had no red worms at first would inevitably get infested by others.
It was hopeless. People stood frozen in place, unable to move, their hair tangled together by the worms. No one could get in or out of the supermarket. Everyone was too scared to move, knowing that if one person moved, they’d drag a hundred others with them. From afar, you could hear the cries and curses of people telling each other not to move.
In the end, the government decided it was easier to just shave everyone’s head.
Jing Shu even met a particularly stubborn person in her previous life. This person had been growing their hair for 20 years and had never cut it. Even when faced with the red worms, they refused to shave their hair.
Every time this person entered or exited the supermarket, their long hair dragged on the ground, tangled with red worms. Jing Shu estimated that there were at least tens of thousands of red worms living and laying eggs in that person’s hair.
