Chapter 189: Reward of 6,000 Virtual Coins (Seeking Monthly Tickets)
I Farm In The Apocalypse
Xie Zihao posted a video from Wucheng News in the group, saying, “@everyone, take a look at this shark submarine. Wasn’t this the one @ Su Mali exchanged for Jing Shu back then? And it was traded for honeysuckle?”
Da Tou: “From the sound, it does seem like it. The person in the video should be Jing Shu!”
Shi Lei: “Wow, is it real? When I watched Dou Ying back then, I thought it looked a bit like Jing Shu, but I couldn’t be sure. I can’t believe the person who saved thousands is my high school classmate!”
Da Tou: “A lot of people have been looking for this mysterious person these past couple of days.”
Liang Xin: “Last time you even asked where Jing Shu’s home is. Turns out she’s keeping a low profile, much better than some people’s constant flattery. She lives in a villa area too. Did you notice? Her villa is covered with PVC plastic sheets from @Yao Zixin’s family. Despite the heavy rain now, her home hasn’t been soaked. So enviable.”
Yao Zixin: “Now that you mention it, I do see my family’s PVC plastic covers. Jing Shu was foresighted, predicting heavy rains in the news during the drought to prevent issues. Didn’t expect it to actually happen! Many people need PVC covers now, but unfortunately, there are no raw materials left.”
Mu Xiaoxuan: “Anyway, watching the rescue video from back then makes me think Jing Shu is amazing. One person and a shark submarine are equivalent to a rescue team.”
Jing Shu was nibbling on Dongpo pork, staring with dead fish eyes at the group.
Fame can be as feared as a fat pig. That guy Shi Jiujiu keeps making videos for no reason, making her so famous. The tangible benefits are minimal, and now all her high school classmates know her identity.
This doesn’t align with her low-key, luxurious, and profound personality.
Su Mali: “Haha, let me tell you all a little secret. Jing Shu’s home is right next to mine in my villa. We’re neighbors! Tonight, my family starts moving and packing things. We’ll move in tomorrow! Tomorrow noon, we’re hosting a swap meet. But we have to change the plan of treating everyone to a meal as before.”
Jing Shu let out a weary sigh. Su Mali is just like she was in her past life—top-notch at stirring up resentment. A couple of days ago, after quietly telling Su Mali the address, Su Mali got excited for a while, saying that someone who has traveled mountains and rivers must meet her and insisted that Jing Shu bring a potted plant to Su Mali’s house tomorrow.
Jing Shu thought this might be an opportunity.
Zhang Ling Ling: “@ Su Mali, what changed it to? Are you canceling it?”
Almost everyone's attention in the group instantly shifted. Although they were envious and jealous of Jing Shu’s home, it wasn’t as important as Su Mali’s meal plans.
Su Mali sent a voice message:
“It’s not canceled. Because we’re having a housewarming party and some friends are coming, I combined the swap meet with the party. This time, it’s not just high school classmates swapping things.
Everyone can bring items they don’t need and exchange them together. Virtual currency trading is now open, so if you can’t find something to swap, you can also purchase with virtual coins. I’ve upgraded it to a trading auction.”
Shi Lei: “So it’s not canceled after all. Anyway, boss said the time, we’ll be there!”
“Tomorrow at 1 PM, everyone at Building 2 in Banana Community Villa. Just report your name.”
...
Jing Shu closed the high school group messages. She felt that when she meets her high school classmates tomorrow, she should explain without revealing her identity.
Shortly after Wucheng News aired, Li Yuetian from Team Erji also called, saying her commendation had been approved, along with other miscellaneous awards—all recorded officially. Jing Shu didn’t pay much attention. The only noteworthy thing was that Li Yuetian mentioned the higher-ups were very supportive of her actions, so they rewarded her with 6,000 virtual coins, which would be credited within 24 hours.
Alright, Jing Shu decided to retract her statement about not receiving substantial rewards. In the post-apocalyptic world, virtual coins represent real food supplies, though they weren’t of much use to her at the moment.
“Maybe tomorrow I can check out what good stuff is at Su Mali’s swap meet?” Jing Shu’s eyes lit up.
Previously, she wasn’t very excited about the swap meet because she didn’t want to exchange too many of her own items. Not only would that expose her identity, but her items were also imbued with some spiritual essence, making them valuable.
Now, with virtual coins, it was different. Whatever she liked, she could just buy it since she had plenty of virtual coins.
Due to her bad mood, Jing Shu ate more. To avoid leftover food, she ate the remaining ten or so flatbreads.
But eating flatbread requires some meat, right?
She chopped the braised meat finely, mixing fatty and lean parts with the braising sauce to make meat sandwiches. Without vegetables, it wouldn’t do. So Jing Shu added some cold mixed shredded potatoes, cucumber slices, scallion strips, and chili strips. After thinking it over, she added two eggs.
Thus, each flatbread became like a super burger. With her mind preoccupied, Jing Shu unknowingly finished all ten-plus flatbreads.
“Burp~” Jing Shu felt a bit too full this time. She decided to go out with Jing Nai to walk and digest.
At eight in the evening, the temperature in Wucheng dropped to 3 degrees, colder than before. Coupled with the icy rain, Jing Shu could feel the cold outside even though she was wearing a cotton jacket with a raincoat.
However, Banana Community unusually had its streetlights on, and since it was the first day of moving in, the government thoughtfully kept the power on.
Next door, Su Mali’s house, along with five other buildings, was surrounded by large billboards. They were also constructing scaffolding like Jing Shu, with various sounds of pounding coming from inside. From the footsteps, it was clear a large number of construction workers were urgently rushing to complete the work.
Jing Nai was oddly excited to go out for a walk. She heard that once the community was fully occupied, it would be lively, so she was thrilled. Older people still enjoy the hustle and bustle and like to gossip and chat with others.
Jing Nai thought: “Living here is great except there’s no one to talk to.”
She hoped that with so many people moving in, there would be a few around her age to chat with.
Unfortunately, it seemed destined for Jing Nai to be disappointed. The current survival rate for elderly people was extremely low, most having passed away from heatstroke last year. The surviving elderly generally had complicated family backgrounds and likely had nothing in common with Jing Nai.
“These houses aren’t even lit up,” Jing Nai walked around in a big circle, feeling the community was still very quiet.
“Sweetie, the first row of buildings from 6 to 10 has people arranged at the entrance. The others are still in the basement. Most houses are still shell properties and emergency lights need to be installed.”
Jing Shu and Jing Nai walked to Building 6. Sure enough, three buildings were densely lit, bustling with people’s voices, audible from afar, full of life.
Looking up from the ground, Jing Nai could still see many human shadows inside.
“Ah, I just counted, some houses have at least a dozen people. It’s a pity there are no elderly folks,” Jing Nai searched for a while but couldn’t find any.
