Jing Shu explained, "I want to add a natural gas system. We can place a compressed natural gas tank on the side of the RV, and use it to cook inside the vehicle directly."

"That’s doable."

The RV’s bathroom was designed with a dry-wet separation system. It featured an automatic thermostat mixer, a 40-liter water heater, and a 950-liter water tank. The bathroom included a washbasin, a ceramic electric toilet, and an electric waste valve.

"I also want to install an ultrafiltration system, and I want to add an additional water heater next to the thermostat. The water heater’s pipes will connect to the two double bedrooms, keeping the rooms warm. It’ll share the water system with the bathroom, ensuring 24-hour access to hot water."

When the RV would eventually be put to use, it would most likely be during a migration, when the earth would have grown extremely cold due to the prolonged lack of sunlight.

Even though the RV had a dual air conditioning system, Jing Shu wanted to ensure it stayed warm by adding extra heating measures.

Chu Zhuohua’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "You’re thinking ahead, aren’t you?"

"Uh... our family has issues with cold weather. We all have bad knees."

As the world continued without sunlight, it was only going to get colder, no matter how extreme the initial heatwave was. The apocalypse left scientists baffled about how long humanity could survive under such conditions.

The first floor of the RV was mostly set, and next, they moved on to the second floor, accessible by an Amordillo five-step aluminum alloy automatic staircase.

The front part of the second floor was an open-air deck, while the back portion was dedicated to solar panels.

The rooftop deck could be hydraulically elevated, transforming into an open lounge area with an electric lift table that could easily seat more than ten people.

"I have a batch of lightweight steel, and I want to enclose the second-floor deck to make it a sealed, liftable room. I’m also planning to add a space capsule; I’m working on acquiring one."

For reasons only Wu Youai understood, she was obsessed with living in a space capsule. She claimed that the closed, confined space made her feel particularly safe. Lately, she had even started collecting capsule-themed gadgets for her future living space.

Chu Zhuohua waggled his finger. "What a coincidence—I happen to have a decommissioned space capsule lying around. It even has a far-infrared feature, so you could get a sauna in it from time to time."

Jing Shu: "..."

"You want to use the second floor as living quarters, or are you planning something else?"

"It’ll be multifunctional. When we’re on the move, we’ll need to bring chickens and ducks along too. Oh, and I’d like to add a greenhouse with extra lighting."

As Chu Zhuohua studied the map and glanced at the RV, he remarked, "Why not remove the solar panels entirely? Without sunlight, they’re practically useless now. Forget about raising or lowering anything. I’ll turn the back half into a sealed livestock area, and the front into living quarters."

"That would effectively turn the RV into a two-story vehicle. It might impact the driving experience, but your RV, while not the most expensive model, has exceptional load-bearing capacity."

Jing Shu nodded. "That works. I do want to transfer the UBC bacterial solar panel over, though. Can we leave space for that on the roof?"

"As for the resource allocation inside the RV, I want to divide it like this: the electricity system will run on the UBC bacterial solar power, cooking and heating water will use natural gas, and the driving system will be hybrid, with both fuel and an electric battery. I know this will reduce performance, but fuel is hard to come by."

"This RV is too big for a regular battery to suffice. Even with a top-tier battery, the horsepower might not be enough. I suggest installing several batteries, but materials are scarce."

When Jing Shu mentioned that Chen Nan’s modification shop had a full supply of materials, Chu Zhuohua’s eyes lit up. "Jing Shu, those modification materials sound perfect for my next vehicle project, don’t you think?"

"Yes, they do."

Chu Zhuohua’s price for his services was simple: Jing Shu would supply the materials for his next modification project. Talented people like him needed to be treated well, and besides, there was no way Chu Zhuohua planned to build something as massive as her RV.

It seemed like a fair deal.

But Jing Shu had underestimated the sheer difference in thought between her and someone like Chu Zhuohua. She couldn’t have predicted what his true plans were.

Her lesson of the day? Never try to understand the mind of a biologist.

Energized by his new goal, Chu Zhuohua fixed the energy car that same day. He planned to drive it to the modification shop the next morning. Despite the family’s curiosity as to why a biology professor could repair cars, they were grateful and invited him to stay for a meal.

Surprisingly, Chu Zhuohua turned out to be more polite than expected. He didn’t attempt to dissect Jing Shu’s frogs, nor did he examine The Fat Chicken’s rear end. He ate his meal gracefully, even offering advice: "According to biological principles, chewing each bite 28 times aids digestion and increases satiety. It’s also great for weight control and maintaining an ideal figure."

"Knowledge is truly power," Grandpa Jing said, giving him a thumbs up.

However, Chu Zhuohua’s gaze lingered on Grandpa Jing’s mouth, sparking his curiosity. Wu Youai swiftly stomped on his foot, making him wince.

"Mentor, have some milk," Wu Youai offered.

"No, no thank you," Chu Zhuohua declined.

"Come on, have a glass. Milk is hard to come by these days," Grandpa Jing insisted, eager to thank him for helping with the RV modification and for taking care of Wu Youai.

Chu Zhuohua awkwardly sipped the milk, but within moments, his face turned purple. "Suddenly remembered I left something on the stove... I must go!" he exclaimed, clutching his mouth and fleeing.

It wasn’t until much later that the sound of his engine revving signaled his departure.

The whole family was left baffled. "Did he say he was cooking clothes?" someone asked.

"He meant he left something cooking and needed to bring in the laundry," Wu Youai explained.

Jing Shu quietly asked Wu Youai, "Does your mentor have trouble with milk?"

"He’s lactose intolerant."

"...And you still gave him milk?"

"I thought he wanted to challenge himself."

...

Jing Shu was beginning to believe she was cursed—specifically, a 4 a.m. curse. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something was seriously wrong. Why was she always woken up at exactly the same time? Was it fate’s doing?

Today, she was called to the government office to inquire about the issue of removing red threadworms.

Yawning, Zhou Bapi drove Jing Shu to the government building in the dead of night. Jing Shu had no idea what was happening until it was explained.

Apparently, Xiao xiao from the Medicinal Herb Association had been accused of fraudulently claiming reward money. But what did that have to do with Jing Shu...?

Wait a minute...
