Chapter 226: Deputy Commander Sheng, Who Washes Diapers Every Day

Married to the Childless Commander: The Pregnancy Pro Wins Effortlessly in the ’70s

This was Deputy Commander Sheng—the notoriously unruly, sharp-tongued “Jade-faced King of Hell” of the military district.

In everyone’s imagination, King Sheng should be tall and imposing, stern and aloof, someone who sits high above the rest and can make people cry with just a glare.

His hands were the kind that could shoulder a cannon, wield a gun, and take down the enemy.

But now, someone please tell them—

Those very hands of King Sheng were actually washing diapers.

And he looked so focused, so meticulous, not a hint of complaint on his face.

He seemed perfectly willing.

Oh my goodness, it was truly beyond their wildest expectations.

So, the news that King Sheng washed diapers every day spread quickly throughout the military district.

Sure enough, as soon as Sheng Zexi ran into any superior, they’d tease him about it.

But Sheng Zexi didn’t feel embarrassed at all. “My wife went through so much to give me a pair of twins. What’s wrong with me washing a few diapers?”

“They’re my son’s and daughter’s diapers, not someone else’s.”

“Besides, if your wives gave you a pair of twins, would you really not be willing to wash diapers for them?”

The leaders: …

The leaders thought about it. If they could have a pair of adorable twins, would they be willing to wash diapers for them?

Of course they would!

There were a few macho men who made fun of Sheng Zexi behind his back.

But making fun of him behind his back was one thing—if anyone dared to say it to his face, Sheng Zexi would definitely challenge them to a sparring match.

If you’re not convinced, if you dare to laugh at him, he’ll spar with you until you can’t laugh anymore, until you’re convinced.

Among the military wives, however, Sheng Zexi’s reputation was stellar.

“Deputy Commander Sheng is cold to outsiders, but he’s so considerate and caring to his family, his wife, and his kids. That’s what a good man is.”

“And even though Deputy Commander Sheng has a sharp tongue, he’s really handsome.”

“His tongue may be sharp, but he’s never been mean to Dr. Gu. He treats her so well.”

“Dr. Gu is so wonderful. If I were him, I’d treat her well too.”

“If you ask me, Deputy Commander Sheng and Dr. Gu are a perfect match—talented man and beautiful woman.”

“Yes, they’re a perfect couple.”

“Anyway, I think Deputy Commander Sheng is a good man.”

“I think so too.”

And so, Sheng Zexi shot to the top of the “Best Man in the Northwest Military District” rankings, as voted by all the military wives.

Sheng Zexi heard about these rumors later, but he didn’t really care.

Just like when people said that washing diapers made him less manly.

Other people’s opinions didn’t matter to him.

Only the opinions of those he cared about mattered—like Ningning’s. As for everyone else… they had nothing to do with him.

After the children were born, Sheng Zexi was busy not only washing diapers but also coming up with names for the babies.

Their mother had already given them nicknames: the older brother was Xingxing (“Star”), and the younger sister was Yueyue (“Moon”).

But the formal names were up to their father.

Sheng Zexi had thought of a few names before the babies were born, but he hadn’t been satisfied with any of them.

Now, he finally managed to come up with two names he was happy with.

The older brother was named Sheng Jingshuo—“Shuo” meaning a bright future.

The younger sister was Sheng Jingxin—“Xin” meaning hope and a bright tomorrow.

Both Sheng Zexi and Gu Jianing were pleased with these names.

And so, from that day on, the two little ones had their official names.

Although Gu Jianing had given birth to twins, there were people to help take care of them, so she didn’t have much to worry about.

Of course, it helped that the twins were easy to care for.

It was as if they’d come to repay a debt of gratitude.

They never fussed, only making little noises when they needed to eat, drink, or be changed. Most of the time, they were very well-behaved.

In comparison, the two boys next door at Sister Shu Wan’s were much harder to handle.

Sometimes, when those two started crying, their wails could shake the roof. Lin Xing would get a headache just listening to them.

He felt that taking care of kids was even more exhausting than training or going on missions.

But what could he do?

They were the sons his wife had worked so hard to give him, the sons he’d always dreamed of.

Now, it was a bittersweet happiness.

“What did you say? She gave birth to a pair of twins?”

“Yes, a boy and a girl. Everyone in the military district is green with envy.”

On the other end of the phone, Sheng Xinhao fell silent.

He knew that woman was pregnant with twins. The last time he saw her, her belly was huge—she must have been due soon.

So he’d asked an old friend near the Northwest Military District to find out.

He hadn’t expected that the news would come back so quickly.

She really had given birth—and to a boy and a girl!

Twins! What a blessing! How could that country woman be so lucky?

And what was Sheng Zexi thinking?

Did he really not plan to acknowledge his father, or let his children know their grandfather? Was that why he hadn’t told him anything?

At this thought, Sheng Xinhao’s face darkened.

Not far away, Fang Wanrong was eavesdropping. Seeing Sheng Xinhao’s unpleasant expression, she began to speculate.

On the phone, the friend continued, “I heard Deputy Commander Sheng is over the moon about his twins. He even washes diapers every day! The military wives all say he’s the best man in the district—a great husband and father!”

At first, Sheng Xinhao thought it was ridiculous that Sheng Zexi washed diapers every day.

He was about to say something, but the words “great husband and father” hit him hard.

He froze.

He knew that, in Sheng Zexi’s eyes, he was definitely not a good husband or father.

He still remembered, after yet another falling out over Fang Wanrong, how Sheng Zexi had glared at him and said, “I, Sheng Zexi, will never become someone like you!”

“You, Sheng Xinhao, are a muddle-headed and selfish husband and father.”

At the time, Sheng Xinhao had found his son’s words laughable.

He’d never thought he’d done anything wrong, never thought he was a bad husband or father.

He just figured Sheng Zexi was too young to understand.

Once his son reached his age, he’d understand.

Then he’d see how ridiculous his own words were, and he’d finally understand his father.

So all these years, Sheng Xinhao had been waiting for Sheng Zexi to come to his senses, admit he was wrong, and come back to his father.

But…

Even now, he was still waiting for his son to admit he was wrong.

Instead, his son had only grown more rebellious, more distant.

And the things his son did seemed more and more outrageous.

It was as if, through his actions, he was telling his father that he was different, that he would never become like him.

And now, he really seemed to be doing just that.

No one outside said anything bad about him. On the contrary, they all said he was a good husband and father.

But what about him?

Sheng Xinhao fell into confusion…

Just then, he felt a sharp pain shoot through his arm again…"
