Chapter 150: No Weapons Allowed
Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies
An Nan couldn’t help but laugh when she saw the red-faced mask in Gu Zhiyu’s hand.
“You really look scary with that thing on! Did you see how frightened they were? Their voices even cracked from screaming!”
Gu Zhiyu chuckled as well. “Schadenfreude, huh? Wasn’t this mask a gift from you?”
Those tattooed guys were also residents of the inner circle. To avoid exposing their identities, the two of them had to cover their faces. The masks were spooky toy masks An Nan had picked up from the children’s section of the supermarket earlier—perfect for disguises.
They hadn’t expected to scare those tough, tattooed men so badly.
An Nan said, “It’s definitely because you were staring at them with that icy look of yours! I heard them muttering about chills down their spines and some kind of ghostly aura…”
Gu Zhiyu ignored her teasing and got down to business. “So, did you get it done?”
An Nan raised her eyebrows. “Of course! What about you?”
Gu Zhiyu smiled. “Mission accomplished.”
They exchanged a knowing grin.
Originally, they’d considered simply knocking out the guards at the well and then drugging the water. But after thinking it over, they realized that wouldn’t work. If the people fetching water found out the guards had been attacked, disappeared, or even died, no one would dare use the well anymore.
So, they agreed to pretend to be robbers. While “fighting” with the guards, they’d quietly slip the drug into the well, then make a show of retreating in defeat.
Just in case, both An Nan and Gu Zhiyu carried the drug. That way, even if one of them failed, the other could still get the job done.
Luckily, both succeeded in dosing the well.
After completing their mission, An Nan and Gu Zhiyu walked a couple more blocks and arrived at a Hummer parked by the roadside.
The previously still car immediately started rocking.
An Nan couldn’t help but chuckle.
The windows were tinted, so she couldn’t see inside, but she knew her dog Fugui must have spotted them and was now beside himself with excitement.
Sure enough, as soon as she opened the door, Fugui bounded out, wagging his tail furiously. He pawed at An Nan’s legs for a bit, then went over to nuzzle Gu Zhiyu.
An Nan crouched down and patted his head to calm him.
Fugui was too conspicuous. Even with her face covered, anyone would recognize her as the “pretty An” who kept a dog at the base. So, she’d left him in the car to wait for them.
Gu Zhiyu crouched down too, giving the dog a quick pat before saying, “Let’s get in.”
An Nan nodded, herding the dog into the back seat. She was about to get into the passenger side when Gu Zhiyu said, “You drive this time.”
With that, he slid into the passenger seat himself.
“Me? Drive?” An Nan was momentarily stunned, then climbed into the driver’s seat, excitement lighting up her face.
She buckled up and grumbled, “I told you before, we should just use my Wuling van. This Hummer guzzles gas!”
Despite her words, her hands lovingly caressed the steering wheel.
Gu Zhiyu smiled. “Want to go for a spin?”
An Nan replied firmly, “Absolutely!”
Gu Zhiyu teased, “Not worried about the gas anymore?”
An Nan pursed her lips. “I’ll make it up to you.”
Gu Zhiyu laughed softly. “No need. I haven’t even paid you for being my chauffeur.”
An Nan grinned and started the car. “Where to?”
Gu Zhiyu fastened his seatbelt. “Driver’s choice.”
An Nan smirked. “Hold on tight.”
She found an empty road, floored the gas, and as the car sped forward, her eyes sparkled with unrestrained joy.
Gu Zhiyu sat in the passenger seat, watching her out of the corner of his eye. He thought to himself, This girl really loves cars.
After a wild lap around the area, An Nan finally slowed down and headed back to the base.
Seeing her satisfied expression, Gu Zhiyu smiled. “How was it?”
An Nan’s lips curled. “Pretty good.”
Gu Zhiyu raised an eyebrow. “Just pretty good?”
At a sharp turn, An Nan steered one-handed. “I’ve driven better.”
She thought of the Knight XV she had stashed away in her space. No car could ever compare to her Black Knight.
Gu Zhiyu saw her look and figured she was thinking about some other dream car. He’d heard from Long Cong’an about An Nan’s background—she was from a wealthy family, so it made sense she’d seen plenty of luxury vehicles.
He never even considered the armored car he’d lost.
Back at their place, they parked in the yard. As soon as the two of them and the dog walked in, but before they could head upstairs, Su Su from the first floor came in from outside.
She glanced at An Nan and Gu Zhiyu and greeted them, “Heading out?”
Gu Zhiyu said nothing. An Nan just nodded expressionlessly.
Su Su felt a twinge of anxiety.
Her parents had suddenly come down with severe vomiting and diarrhea today, so bad they were completely exhausted. They’d sent word for her to come take care of them.
And in just that short time, these two had managed to get together again!
Worried they’d go upstairs and get all cozy, Su Su hurried to make conversation. “An Mei, what did you prepare as a gift for tomorrow’s birthday party?”
An Nan answered honestly, “Nothing.”
Su Su was surprised. “Huh? How come?”
An Nan replied, “Didn’t feel like it.”
Su Su: …
This An Mei is a total conversation killer!
Seeing the two about to head upstairs, she quickly tried again, pointing at the triangular bayonet behind An Nan. “An Mei, I’ve noticed you always carry that bayonet with you wherever you go?”
An Nan was starting to lose patience. “What, you got a problem with that?”
It was the first time Su Su had seen An Nan get angry. She shrank back a little and said quietly, “It’s just, I overheard the boss telling the guards yesterday that everyone will be searched at tomorrow’s birthday party. No weapons allowed. I just wanted to remind you not to bring it.”
An Nan exchanged a glance with Gu Zhiyu.
That was actually useful information. If Gu Zhiyu’s pistol got discovered during the search, it could cause a lot of trouble.
Her expression softened a bit. “Got it. Thanks for the heads-up.”
Su Su’s mind raced, trying to think of another excuse to stick around.
But An Nan seemed to see right through her. “Sorry, I need to rest now. Let’s talk another time.”
With that, she turned and went upstairs.
Su Su watched her go, wanting to say more, but then met Gu Zhiyu’s fierce gaze and quickly shut her mouth.
The next evening.
The entire mountain and base were lit up with bright lights.
The banquet was held, as usual, in the boss’s courtyard. At the iron gate, a long line had formed as two bodyguards searched each guest.
Anyone carrying weapons had to leave them at a temporary check-in station outside the gate before they could enter.
An Nan and Gu Zhiyu strolled over from the villa, spotting the line for the security check from a distance.
An Nan fiddled with the silver ring on her finger. “They’re really serious about the no-weapons rule.”
Gu Zhiyu smiled. “No worries. Our weapons are already sitting on their table.”"
