Chapter 165: Help Me Propose

Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies

Zhao Ping’an frowned and turned around.

It was none other than the slovenly Zhang Xiaobao.

Zhang Xiaobao’s view had been blocked by Zhao Ping’an, so he’d assumed the person inside was his sister-in-law, Chu Peipei. But when the person turned around, he was stunned to see a beautiful woman he’d never met before.

Staring at An Nan’s slender figure and jade-like skin, he was instantly dazzled. “And who might this be?”

Zhao Ping’an shot him a look of utter disdain. “What are you doing here again?”

Zhang Xiaobao ignored him, grinning as he addressed An Nan:

“Hey there, pretty girl, don’t pay any attention to this Zhao guy. He’s no good—already tangled up with my sister-in-law, and now he’s here trying to hit on you.”

An Nan looked at the chubby, greasy-faced man in front of her, his hair plastered in messy strands across his face, and felt nothing but disgust.

She turned to Zhao Ping’an. “And this… thing is?”

Zhao Ping’an sighed helplessly. “Peipei’s brother-in-law.”

An Nan sized Zhang Xiaobao up and suddenly understood.

She’d wondered how someone could stay so fat in the apocalypse—turns out, he was Li Guifen’s spoiled youngest son.

Just looking at Li Guifen’s skin-and-bones frame, it was obvious all the family’s nutrition had gone straight into this little fatty.

Hearing An Nan call him “this thing,” Zhang Xiaobao was a bit offended, but he still shamelessly shuffled a few steps closer.

“Hey, I feel like you look familiar. Haven’t we met somewhere before?” he said, flicking his bangs with a flourish, full of confidence.

An Nan listened to this tired old pickup line and instinctively took a step back, afraid he’d splatter her with grease.

Oblivious, Zhang Xiaobao tried to get even closer, but Zhao Ping’an blocked him with an outstretched arm. “What do you think you’re doing?”

The little fatty was not pleased.

“What’s it to you, pretty boy? Isn’t Chu Peipei enough for you? Now you want to steal this pretty girl from me too?”

Listening to his filthy mouth, An Nan couldn’t take it anymore. She aimed a hard kick at his waist, sending him flying.

Then she quickly checked her shoe.

Damn, she felt like her shoe was covered in grease now!

Seeing the look of disgust on her face, Zhao Ping’an hurriedly said, “Idol, let’s talk later. You should head home for now.”

An Nan glanced at Zhang Xiaobao, who she’d kicked three meters away.

He was sprawled on the ground, still grinning at her with a wide, creepy smile, sending shivers down her spine.

She’d seen plenty of chubby guys before, but never one this greasy!

“See you!” An Nan called to Zhao Ping’an, then decisively shut the door.

Zhang Xiaobao got up, wincing in pain, but still looked smitten. “Spicy little firecracker! I like her!”

Watching him drool, Zhao Ping’an felt sick to his stomach.

Where did this guy get the confidence to try and hit on An Nan?

If An Nan was a fairy, then this guy was the foot callus on the Jade Emperor’s ox.

Zhao Ping’an walked down a few steps and stopped in front of Zhang Xiaobao, warning him in a low voice.

“I’m telling you, you’d better not mess with people you shouldn’t.”

Zhang Xiaobao scowled and raised his fist threateningly.

But before he could do anything, Zhao Ping’an grabbed his wrist and twisted it behind his back.

“Ah! Ow, ow, ow! Let go!”

Zhao Ping’an glared coldly at him for a moment. “Stay away from the 14th floor! Otherwise, every time I see you, I’ll beat you up!”

He gave him two more punches before turning to leave.

Clutching his face, Zhang Xiaobao muttered under his breath, “Nosy pretty boy!”

He wanted to fight back, but knew he couldn’t win, so he just gritted his teeth, rubbing his waist as he hobbled downstairs.

“Damn it, aren’t city folks supposed to be weak? Why are these people all so strong…”

15th Floor.

Hu Cuilan saw Zhao Ping’an return empty-handed and smiled. “So it really was that An Nan girl coming back?”

Zhao Ping’an took off his shoes and walked inside. “Of course! As soon as my idol came back, she put that shrew in her place.”

At the mention of Li Guifen, Hu Cuilan immediately put her hands on her hips and started cursing:

“That uncivilized old hag! If she wasn’t Peipei’s mother-in-law, I’d have turned her and her ugly son into pincushions with my arrows!”

Zhao Ping’an laughed. “Yes, yes, my empress is the fiercest of all!”

Hu Cuilan glared at him. “Fierce? I’m just putting up with her endless yapping, that’s all!”

She sighed. “Peipei is such a good kid. How did she end up marrying into such an awful family?”

Truth was, Hu Cuilan had already had plenty of shouting matches with Li Guifen.

She could hold her own in a war of words, but for Peipei’s sake, she couldn’t really go all out and teach the old woman a lesson.

She was just like An Nan—even if she was tough, it wasn’t her place to meddle in Chu Peipei’s family affairs.

Zhao Ping’an walked over and started massaging her shoulders. “Mom, don’t worry. Peipei may be kind, but she’s no pushover. That shrew and her son won’t be able to act up for much longer.”

Hu Cuilan thought for a moment. “That’s true.”

Then she added, “But keep an eye out for me. I need to find a chance to vent my anger.”

That old woman had come up to the 15th floor to spew her filth more than once—Hu Cuilan remembered every word!

Zhao Ping’an kept massaging her shoulders and neck, smiling. “Of course, Mother Dearest!”

13th Floor.

Zhang Xiaobao, face swollen and rubbing his waist, walked in just as Li Guifen woke up from her nap and hobbled out of the bedroom.

Their eyes met, and Li Guifen immediately limped over as fast as she could.

“Xiaobao, let Mom see! What happened? Did that little tramp upstairs hit you?!”

Zhang Xiaobao flopped onto the sofa, completely unconcerned. “What are you yelling for?”

He flicked his greasy bangs. “Who’s a tramp? She’s a real knockout, that’s what she is!”

He’d never seen anyone so beautiful in his life.

Ten times prettier than the prettiest girl in their village, little Ah Li!

“Oh my!” Li Guifen sat down next to him, heart aching. “No matter how pretty she is, she can’t just go around hitting people!”

She reached out to pull up his shirt. “Let Mom see, did she hurt you?”

Zhang Xiaobao impatiently pushed her away. “Quit nagging! I’ve got something serious to tell you.”

Li Guifen looked puzzled. “What is it?”

Zhang Xiaobao pouted. “I don’t want Chu Peipei anymore. She’s not good enough for me! I want that beauty who lives across from her. Pick a good day and go propose for me!”

Li Guifen was stunned. “What did you say?”

Zhang Xiaobao frowned. “What’s the problem?”

Li Guifen’s voice shot up in alarm. “Absolutely not! That girl’s a little shrew! Look what she did to my face…”

Zhang Xiaobao rolled his eyes. “What do you know? That’s called personality. What city girl doesn’t have a bit of a temper?”

Li Guifen tried to talk him out of it. “Xiaobao, be good and listen to Mom. Let’s not mess with that woman. Your sister-in-law is perfectly fine—she’s already our daughter-in-law, and she’s a doctor too.”

Zhang Xiaobao shoved her away.

“Be good? I’m not a kid anymore! Just do as I say. Don’t you want to carry on the Zhang family line?”"
