Chapter 179: What’s Gotten Into President Gu?

Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies

Chu Peipei’s memories of Gu Zhiyu were still stuck on their last waterborne transaction.

If it weren’t for his striking appearance, she might not have even recognized him today.

An Nan skipped over the details of sneaking into the mountain and the base, only saying that she and Gu Zhiyu had crossed paths a few times by chance. Then she focused on what happened today.

After listening, Chu Peipei looked utterly shocked.

“You mean to tell me you turned down a guy who showed up in pajamas, flew here, and risked his life to break into the quarantine zone just to see you?”

An Nan nodded.

Chu Peipei looked like a heartbroken fangirl whose favorite couple had just split up.

“Why on earth would you do that??”

An Nan didn’t know how to explain. She couldn’t exactly tell Chu Peipei she had a secret space and was afraid of being found out, could she? So she could only gloss over it: “We’ve barely even spent any time together, and he suddenly says he likes me. Isn’t that scary?”

Chu Peipei shook her head helplessly.

“You, my dear, have definitely watched too many dramas and read too many novels.”

An Nan was puzzled. “What do you mean?”

Chu Peipei put on a serious face.

“Real-life relationships aren’t full of twists and turns like in stories. Sometimes, fate between people is decided in a single glance.”

An Nan was surprised. “A single glance?”

Chu Peipei nodded. “Just one glance.”

An Nan didn’t buy it. “How’s that possible? You barely know each other, how can there be any fate?”

Chu Peipei asked, “What was your first impression of Zhao Ping’an?”

An Nan thought for a moment. “Clean and handsome.”

Chu Peipei: “And what about the first time you saw President Gu?”

An Nan thought of those deep, fox-like eyes, and felt her ears heat up. “Pretty… handsome.”

Chu Peipei seemed to have discovered a secret, pointing at her and exclaiming,

“Listen to yourself! The way you said ‘handsome’ is totally different for those two!”

An Nan froze.

After a while, she said, “It’s the apocalypse now—who has the energy for romance? Surviving is what matters.”

Chu Peipei didn’t get it. “So what if it’s the apocalypse? Who says you have to live miserably just because the world’s ended? Why can’t you have someone who understands and loves you? If you ask me, you should enjoy life even more in the apocalypse. With a guy like President Gu, what’s there to hesitate about? Just sleep with him! You won’t lose out!”

An Nan was dumbfounded. “S-sleep with him?”

The dog, Fugui, who’d been lying on An Nan’s lap, also looked up in shock. “Woof woof woof?”

Chu Peipei was startled too. “This dog can understand human speech!”

Then she pushed its head back down. “Adults are talking, kids shouldn’t listen!”

An Nan didn’t have time to worry about the dog; she just felt her worldview had taken a serious hit.

Should she really be discussing this kind of thing with a married woman?

She was still an innocent girl!

Chu Peipei saw her expression and said earnestly,

“This is the apocalypse! You never know when your time’s up! In your final moments, what would you regret? That there was an amazing man right in front of you, and you never slept with him!”

An Nan was still stunned, but then… she started to think.

Seeing her expression, Chu Peipei quickly added, “Of course, you can’t just sleep with anyone. You have to actually like him.”

Then she got to the key point:

“Nannan, do you like him?”

An Nan was silent for a long while before she finally said, “I…”

Chu Peipei immediately understood and declared, “You do.”

An Nan was quiet for a few more seconds, then frowned. “It’s not like I’ll ever see him again anyway. Why bother thinking about it?”

Chu Peipei was surprised. “Who says you won’t see him again?”

An Nan: “Didn’t you see his face just now? He looked like he wanted to kill someone.”

Chu Peipei blinked. “He’ll definitely come looking for you again. Trust me—I’ve been there.”

Meanwhile, at the mountainside villa—

Long Cong’an was watering the plants in the house when he suddenly heard the sound of a helicopter returning.

“Back so soon?”

He put down the watering can and ran out to greet them.

Since the boss had left in such a hurry, Long Cong’an didn’t dare leave on his own, so he’d just been waiting in the villa.

As soon as he saw Gu Zhiyu, he hurried over. “President Gu, you’re back?”

Gu Zhiyu’s face was cold. “Why are you still here?”

Long Cong’an was taken aback.

What happened out there? Did he eat gunpowder or something?

“I was afraid you’d have more instructions, so I waited here and watered the plants in the meantime.”

The boss had left in such a rush—who knew if he’d come back with a new mission?

He was a very responsible assistant, after all, and had to stay put and wait.

But Gu Zhiyu clearly didn’t notice his assistant’s thoughtfulness.

He strode into the house with a dark face and plopped down on the sofa.

On the sofa was the shotgun he’d been carrying around lately.

He tossed the gun aside, then said, “That’s all. You can go.”

Long Cong’an bowed respectfully. “Yes, sir.”

But he’d barely made it out the door when he heard the boss shout, “Come back!”

Long Cong’an immediately turned around and re-entered.

He happened to see Gu Zhiyu picking up the shotgun he’d just thrown away, treating it like a treasure.

Long Cong’an: …

What on earth is wrong with President Gu today??

Gu Zhiyu frowned and asked, “Does your wife have any ex-boyfriends?”

Long Cong’an: …

Why is he asking me this out of the blue?

But he answered honestly, “Yes.”

After thinking about it, he added, “We’re all adults—who doesn’t have a few exes?”

Gu Zhiyu’s frown deepened. “Did she ever reject you because of her ex?”

Long Cong’an was baffled. “Of course not.”

Seeing Gu Zhiyu staring at him, he continued, “It’s not like her ex was unforgettable. Why would she reject me because of him?”

Gu Zhiyu muttered, “Unforgettable?”

Then he suddenly gritted his teeth. “Fine! Great!”

And he tossed the shotgun aside again.

Long Cong’an looked at the poor gun, completely unable to understand why his boss kept taking it out on the shotgun.

Gu Zhiyu sat there frowning and spacing out, then suddenly looked up at him. “Why are you still here?”

Long Cong’an: …

I’m speechless! Didn’t you just tell me to stay?!

But he still replied respectfully, “If you don’t have any other instructions, I’ll head out now.”

Gu Zhiyu absentmindedly waved him away.

As Long Cong’an walked out, he grumbled inwardly: I knew it—there’s no such thing as easy money for a working man!

He hadn’t gone far when he suddenly realized something, smacked his forehead, and hurried home.

As soon as he got home, he excitedly called out to his wife,

“Honey! I have some explosive gossip!!”

Li Shihan immediately came over. “What? What gossip?”

Ever since the disaster struck, her days had been filled with nothing but gardening and childcare. It had been ages since she’d heard anything interesting."
