Chapter 183: The Deal

Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies

In the days that followed, An Nan went about her life as usual. The helicopter never came back.

A week later, she arrived at the location she’d agreed upon with the Jiang brothers.

The deal was scheduled for daytime on purpose. Although the temperature was high, there weren’t many people around, and the visibility was good.

The meeting spot was an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city. Both parties would unload their goods inside the warehouse, then each would take away what they’d traded for.

An Nan had chosen this factory herself.

It was remote, with a wide, open view, and there weren’t any places nearby where people could hide. If the brothers tried to bring anyone else along, she’d spot them easily.

She first drove around the area within a three-kilometer radius, making sure there were no suspicious people about, before heading to the warehouse.

By the time she arrived, the brothers were already there.

They’d brought a big dump truck, loaded to the brim with grain. The younger brother, Jiang Tian, was operating the truck to unload the goods, while Jiang Weiming stood by giving directions.

An Nan raised her eyebrows—these two were smarter than she’d expected.

Fifteen tons of grain—if they’d tried to move it by hand, who knows how long it would have taken? Using a dump truck saved a lot of effort.

She just wondered where they’d managed to get a dump truck from.

In just a week, they’d managed to gather so much grain and even trade for precious medicinal herbs. Clearly, the power behind them was anything but ordinary.

But none of that concerned An Nan. She was just here to earn her grain.

Her Wuling minivan, loaded with medicinal herbs, slowly drove over to the Jiang brothers.

Jiang Weiming greeted her warmly. “Miss An, we meet again.”

Then, looking at her minivan in surprise, he asked, “Miss An, you came in this?”

An Nan turned off the engine. “Don’t worry, there are five hundred jin of isatis root in here—not a single jin less.”

Jiang Weiming quickly laughed and explained, “Oh, that’s not what I meant, Miss An. Your integrity is beyond doubt. I’m just curious—how are you going to move fifteen tons of grain?”

Surely she wasn’t planning to haul it all with a minivan? That’d take forever!

An Nan smiled. “I’m just here for the exchange. I’ve got workers coming to handle the loading and transport.”

Jiang Weiming nodded in sudden understanding. “Of course.”

She clearly had people backing her—no way a young woman like her would be moving fifteen tons of goods by herself.

By now, Jiang Tian had finished unloading.

Both sides checked the goods the other had brought and confirmed everything was in order.

There was no question about the quality of An Nan’s medicinal herbs. The brothers’ grain was a mixed batch, but the quality was acceptable.

An Nan had stockpiled enough grain before the disaster to last her a long time. The grain she traded for now was basically just money—not something she’d eat herself. As long as it was edible and the quantity was right, it was fine.

The Jiang brothers quickly loaded the five hundred jin of isatis root onto their truck, then cheerfully said their goodbyes.

“Miss An, it’s been a pleasure doing business! See you tomorrow!”

An Nan nodded. “Goodbye!”

After the brothers left, An Nan drove a little way behind them to make sure they were really gone, then returned to the factory.

She easily stowed all the grain into her space, then hummed a tune as she headed home.

Just as she reached the fourteenth floor, she ran into Chu Peipei knocking on her door.

Seeing An Nan returning from outside, Chu Peipei was a little surprised. “Nannan, you went out?”

An Nan nodded. “Yeah, just went for a walk.”

Then she stepped back a bit. “I haven’t disinfected yet, and you’re not wearing a mask. Go home first—I’ll come find you in a bit.”

But Chu Peipei was relaxed. “It’s fine, I drink isatis root tea every day. Besides—”

An Nan interrupted, disapproving, “That’s no reason to let your guard down! Even if there’s medicine, it’s not worth suffering through illness.”

Chu Peipei knew she meant well, so she agreed, “Alright, I’ll go back first. Come over when you’re done.”

An Nan nodded, watched her go inside, then closed the hallway door and thoroughly disinfected herself in the elevator.

When she opened her own door, Fugui and Laifu rushed over, scrambling to be the first to greet her.

A beat behind, Lord Rabbit also hopped over after Fugui.

An Nan gave each of them some attention, then changed her clothes and got ready to go to 1401 to see Chu Peipei.

When Fugui saw she was about to leave again, he anxiously followed at her heels, whining.

Seeing how pitiful he looked, An Nan thought, Peipei likes dogs anyway—she won’t mind if I bring Fugui along. So she decided to take him with her.

“I’m taking you to Peipei’s place, but you have to behave—no mischief, no destroying things, got it?”

Fugui immediately wagged his tail excitedly, circling her in delight.

Laifu, however, was not pleased.

Why should only the big dumb dog get to go and not him?

With a flap of his wings, he jumped right onto Fugui’s back.

If we’re going, we’re going together!

Fugui was annoyed and spun in circles, trying to shake Laifu off. Lord Rabbit, seeing his boss being trampled by a chicken, hurried over to help.

Laifu flapped his wings and dodged nimbly.

For a moment, it was chickens flying, dogs spinning, and rabbits hopping—a total mess.

An Nan called out helplessly, “Stop, stop! You can all come!”

Only then did the three little ones settle down.

When Chu Peipei opened the door at the sound of knocking, she saw An Nan with a dog on a leash, a chicken, and a big rabbit in tow.

She was stunned for a moment. “Wow, what a lively bunch!”

An Nan felt a little embarrassed. “I brought them along—hope we’re not bothering you?”

Chu Peipei quickly shook her head. “Not at all, come in, come in!”

One person, one chicken, one dog, and one rabbit all filed into the apartment. Chu Peipei followed behind, marveling at the harmonious scene.

“Nannan, why do all the animals at your place look so healthy?”

They were all fat and strong—and looked like they could really hold their own.

An Nan laughed. “Maybe 1402 just has good feng shui?”

Just then, Chu Peipei’s own hen, Xiaobai, and her two rabbits came out.

Xiaobai and Laifu were old acquaintances. As soon as she saw Laifu, she circled him once, then headed back to the bedroom.

At first, Laifu held his head high, eyes darting around, but before long, he casually followed Xiaobai into the bedroom.

The two rabbits made a beeline for Lord Rabbit.

Even though all three rabbits were siblings rescued from Zhao Ping’an’s house, there was now a huge size difference between them.

The two little rabbits clearly hadn’t gained intelligence—they just acted on animal instinct. Lord Rabbit, thoroughly unimpressed, turned his back on them and loyally stuck by his boss, Fugui.

Sitting on the sofa, An Nan noticed that the little female rabbit’s belly was noticeably round. She asked,

“Peipei, are your rabbits pregnant?”

Chu Peipei nodded. “Yeah, soon I’ll have all the rabbit meat I want.”

Then she asked, “Your rabbit must be pregnant too, right?”

Pregnant? Yeah, right.

An Nan’s mouth twitched. Her female rabbit had long since ended up in Fugui’s stomach."
