Chapter 200: Borrowing Food
Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies
Gu Zhiyu looked at her, half amused, half exasperated. “That was what you call being unable to help myself—natural talent, overwhelming passion.”
An Nan was unmoved. “Keep all those four-character idioms to yourself!”
The room fell silent, the only sound the patter of rain outside the window.
The three little ones sat in a row against the wall, staring at the two of them without blinking.
An Nan felt creeped out by their gazes and couldn’t help but snap at them, “What are you looking at? Turn around!”
Gu Zhiyu, calm as ever, said, “Don’t take it out on the kids.”
An Nan: …
What kids?
Where did these kids come from?
This damn man must be crazy, spouting nonsense here first thing in the morning!
An Nan turned away, too annoyed to bother with him.
Seeing that she was genuinely upset, Gu Zhiyu shut his mouth and quietly turned to head into the kitchen.
“I’ll go make breakfast.”
An Nan watched his retreating back and slumped into a chair, feeling frustrated.
Lust clouds the mind! The ancestors never lied.
Last night, she’d been dazzled by Gu Zhiyu’s good looks, lost her head in a moment of impulse, and instead of teleporting away immediately, she… made a huge mistake!
And now, it was clear this man wasn’t about to let things go.
Her mind was a mess.
Irritated, she turned her head and happened to catch a glimpse of the surveillance feed on the nearby computer. Several figures were lurking suspiciously outside the door on the 14th floor.
An Nan frowned. What’s going on?
She took out the pistol Gu Zhiyu had handed over to her, opened the door, and stepped out.
The group was whispering at the door when the hallway door suddenly swung open.
A black gun barrel was pointed straight at them.
The man in front immediately threw up his hands. “Wait, wait! We mean no harm!”
An Nan stared at them coldly. “What do you want?”
Someone in the back hurried to explain, “Hello, we’re from the neighboring Qian’ao complex. We came here to trade, but got trapped by the acid rain. We haven’t eaten in days…”
An Nan’s expression didn’t change. “And what’s that got to do with me?”
The group exchanged glances, clearly not expecting her to be so blunt.
They’d heard stories about this “demon woman” from the people at Maple Forest View, but thought they must have been exaggerated.
That’s why, even though those people had refused to come upstairs no matter what, they’d decided to try their luck.
They hadn’t expected her to be so heartless.
An older man among them pleaded, “Miss, we’ve searched every apartment downstairs. They’re all empty. We finally found someone up here. If you don’t help us, we really will starve to death.”
An Nan swept her gaze over them.
No way was she going to help.
If she set a precedent, people would come begging for food all the time, and she could kiss her peaceful life goodbye.
She had plenty of food, enough to feed a few freeloaders, but she couldn’t possibly feed everyone in the world.
She couldn’t save them all. Over the years, she’d long since hardened her heart.
So she threatened, “There really is no one downstairs. Do you know why?”
She looked around slowly, enunciating each word: “Because I killed them all.”
A chill ran down everyone’s spine.
The stories they’d heard suddenly felt all too real.
But they were simply too hungry.
The youngest guy shouted, “Don’t be scared! She’s just a woman—how dangerous can she be? If we all rush her—!”
At that moment, the man in front, still staring down the barrel of the gun, widened his eyes. “Bro, don’t talk nonsense!”
Easy for you to say when the gun isn’t pointed at you!
He turned back to An Nan, pleading, “Miss, please, put down the gun. Let’s talk this out. We really mean no harm, we just want to borrow a little food…”
The young man kept blustering, “So what if she has a gun? I have plenty of toy guns at home! We just need to—”
Before he could finish, An Nan swung the gun toward him and pulled the trigger.
Bang.
He stared, wide-eyed, and collapsed.
An Nan watched his body tumble down the stairs, let out a cold laugh, and felt a lot better.
She’d had a lot of pent-up emotions today with nowhere to vent.
These people just had to come knocking.
Everyone present was stunned.
The man who’d been in front, the one who’d had the gun pointed at him all along, bent over and started retching violently.
An Nan frowned and aimed the gun at him. “Don’t you dare vomit in front of my door!”
With nothing in his stomach, he could only bring up some bile.
Frightened by An Nan’s threat, he tried to swallow it back, immediately choking and coughing hard.
The gunshot had drawn Chu Peipei from 1401 out into the hall.
“Nannan, what’s going on? Are you okay?”
An Nan shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Then she turned to look at the group. “They’re the ones with a problem.”
She raised the gun again. “Who’s next?”
The group frantically shook their heads. “No, no! We don’t want anything anymore!”
No matter how scary the rumors, you only truly feel the terror when you see it for yourself.
Now, they finally understood what kind of “demon woman” they were dealing with.
She really would let people die, and kill in cold blood.
They begged for mercy as they scrambled to flee down the stairs.
They knew there was a big difference between possibly starving to death and dying right now.
Chu Peipei watched them scatter, then turned to An Nan. “Those were people from Qian’ao, right?”
An Nan looked at her curiously. “How did you know?”
Chu Peipei started, “Because yesterday I—”
She suddenly noticed something and gasped, “Nannan! Why are your lips swollen?”
A moment ago, An Nan had been decisive and ruthless, but now she panicked. “Huh?”
She covered her lips, eyes darting. “Swollen? Where?”
Chu Peipei pried her hand away, eyes shining. “Don’t try to hide it from me!”
She stared at An Nan’s lips, clicking her tongue. “Tsk tsk, just how long were you two at it?”
An Nan’s face turned bright red. “Don’t talk nonsense! I just ate too much spicy duck head!”
Chu Peipei grinned, full of gossip. “Come on, that excuse might fool an 18-year-old girl. Spill it! How far did you two go?”
An Nan pressed her lips together, saying nothing.
Chu Peipei covered her mouth in mock shock. “No way! Don’t tell me you already—”
An Nan’s voice shot up several octaves. “Of course not!”
Then she bolted for home. “I’m not talking to you! I’ve got food on the stove!”
Chu Peipei watched her fleeing back and couldn’t help but smile knowingly.
“Go on, go on—someone’s waiting for you at home!”
Back inside, Gu Zhiyu was still busy in the kitchen, apparently not the least bit concerned about the gunshot outside.
Soon, he brought the food to the dining table and said gently,
“Tired from all the killing? Come eat.”
An Nan glanced at him, then slowly walked over and sat down at the table.
She paused when she saw the food in front of her."
