Chapter 217: The Rain Stops
Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies
1402.
An Nan looked at Gu Zhiyu and asked, “What do you think Peipei-jie will do with her?”
Gu Zhiyu replied, “No idea, but judging by those screams, it must’ve been rough. You definitely won’t need to step in again.”
An Nan raised an eyebrow. “How did you know I was still thinking about stepping in?”
Gu Zhiyu smirked. “I know you.”
An Nan gave him a once-over. “Being understood so well by someone is kind of unsettling.”
Gu Zhiyu: “So, do you want a sense of security, or do you want me?”
An Nan: “A sense of security.”
Gu Zhiyu’s eyes darkened a little. “Wrong answer.”
With that, he scooped An Nan up and tossed her onto the sofa.
Fugui: …
Laifu: …
Lord Rabbit: …
Here they go again!
The three little ones, unfazed, widened their eyes and sat in a row to watch.
Downstairs.
“What was that sound just now? Gave me goosebumps.”
“Sounded like someone screaming—pretty miserable, too.”
“Aren’t we the only ones in this building?”
“There’s still that demon woman and her crew, isn’t there?”
“I know, but no way they’d be screaming like that!”
“Could they be fighting among themselves?”
At that, the group got excited.
“That’d be great! If they fight to the death, maybe we’ll finally get some proper food.”
“I wouldn’t count on it. Don’t forget, there’s still someone else in this building…”
“Who?”
“That missing little girl.”
At those words, everyone fell silent.
After a while, someone finally spoke. “We’d better be careful. Don’t let those people upstairs catch us.”
The next day, when the group gathered on the eighth floor again, slow, deliberate footsteps sounded from above.
Just as everyone was about to eat, they froze at the sudden sound and looked warily toward the door.
The door was open. A bald woman walked in, holding a gun in one hand and dragging a little girl with the other.
The girl’s limbs hung limp, as if she couldn’t move at all.
No one could figure out what the woman wanted, so they watched her tensely.
But the bald woman acted as if they weren’t even there. She tossed the little girl down next to a corpse on the floor.
She paused for a moment and said, “I’m returning your daughter.”
Then she pulled a small red object from her pocket and tossed it beside the girl.
The others took a closer look.
It was a tongue.
The woman glanced coldly at the little girl. “Don’t lie in your next life.”
Then she turned and left.
The girl, thrown to the floor, saw the rotting corpse beside her and started wailing in terror, then stared helplessly at the bald woman’s retreating back.
But no words came from her mouth—only incoherent noises.
When the footsteps faded away and a door upstairs slammed shut, the others finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“That scared me to death. I thought she was going to shoot us.”
“Relax, she didn’t even look at us.”
“Forget it, I’m starving.”
With that, they turned back to the two figures on the floor.
One was crawling with maggots, reeking of rot.
The other had smooth, clean skin, lying there quietly, unable to speak or move.
They exchanged glances.
“This place stinks. Let’s go downstairs.”
“You’re right.”
They picked up the little girl and headed down.
Liu Jiafeng’s eyes widened in terror, panic sweeping over her.
What are they going to do?!
She tried desperately to resist, but Chu Peipei had crippled her limbs—they wouldn’t obey her at all. She could only watch helplessly as they carried her to the sixth floor.
A group gathered around, eyes shining as they looked down at her.
“We’d better ration this. Who knows when the rain will stop?”
“Let’s start with the limbs—they’re already necrotic.”
Half an hour later, the group left, satisfied.
Liu Jiafeng was unconscious for a long time before she slowly woke.
She could no longer feel her arms or legs at all.
The pain in her body had gone numb. Her mind drifted back to the good days when she first arrived on the 14th floor.
Where did it all go wrong?
Everything had been fine…
Building 6 returned to its usual calm.
From that day on, Chu Peipei didn’t leave her room for a long time. Zhao Ping’an stayed home every day, working on his research.
An Nan and Gu Zhiyu spent their days cooking, sparring, playing games, and watching movies.
Their relationship deepened rapidly, and time flew by.
Then, one day, the rain finally stopped.
But outside, everything was still eerily quiet—no one dared go out.
The acid rain had lasted over a month. It had stopped a few times before, but always started up again soon after, killing many people.
People had been tormented into fear and didn’t dare venture out anymore.
It wasn’t until three days later, when the rain still hadn’t returned, that a few brave souls finally dared to venture outside.
When they came back safely with supplies, the others finally worked up the courage to step out as well.
A week passed, and still no more acid rain.
An Nan stood by the window and said to Gu Zhiyu, “Let’s go out for a walk, too.”
Gu Zhiyu pressed his lips together. “What if it starts raining again?”
An Nan jerked her chin toward the outside. “Are you more timid than those guys?”
Gu Zhiyu said nothing.
An Nan seemed to think of something, giving him a half-smile. “Are you afraid I’ll send you home again?”
Gu Zhiyu glanced at her. “No.”
He smiled. “You still owe me a bet.”
An Nan remembered—when they’d bet on Liu Jiafeng’s identity, she’d lost.
The loser had to agree to do one thing for the winner, as long as it was within their ability.
She smiled. “I almost forgot. You’ve got something on me now.”
Then she asked, “So why don’t you want to go out?”
Gu Zhiyu looked at her. “Because I love you. I’m afraid you’ll get hurt.”
So… straightforward.
An Nan’s ears turned red. She replied casually, “You’re really cautious.”
She thought to herself, Aren’t these domineering CEO types supposed to be reserved and subtle? Why is this guy always so direct?
He never hides how much he cares, as if he wants to announce it to the world.
And she just can’t resist it.
Gu Zhiyu smiled and pulled An Nan into his arms, saying nothing.
If he’d still been living alone on the hillside, he would’ve run over to find her the first day the rain stopped.
But now that An Nan was right by his side, of course he wouldn’t risk taking her out.
An Nan knew the acid rain was really over, but she didn’t press the issue.
After all, they weren’t short on supplies at home.
So the two of them stayed home for another week.
Until one day, Zhao Ping’an and Chu Peipei came knocking.
“Idol, let’s go out for a walk! It should be safe out there now!”
“Yeah, Nannan, the temperature’s dropped a lot these days—it’s the perfect time to go out.”"
