Chapter 231: Let’s Move
Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies
Jiang Weiming’s eyes lit up. “What’s the official word this time?”
An Nan also listened intently.
Jiang Tian said, “The official base is in urgent need of fuel. They’re buying at high prices.”
The two brothers exchanged a glance, both seeing opportunity in each other’s eyes.
An Nan, however, didn’t react much to the news.
In her previous life, the authorities had put out the same announcement, which sparked a frenzy for fuel. Ordinary survivors and black marketeers alike went crazy searching for oil, even sparking a new wave of deadly fights over it.
But not long after, the authorities got enough fuel from a mysterious big shot and stopped buying from individuals.
The fuel An Nan had was just enough for her own use. She relied on it for electricity and her car—there was no need to fight the big players for a piece of the pie.
And even if she tried, she wouldn’t win.
Seeing An Nan’s lack of response, the Jiang brothers exchanged another look.
Jiang Weiming asked, “Miss An, what do you think about this?”
An Nan shrugged. “Not much to say.”
Jiang Weiming studied her expression but didn’t press further.
The brothers drove away the four vehicles in two trips.
Only after they had completely left did An Nan pack up her supplies and drive home.
Over the next few days, she confirmed that the jade bracelet was fine and completed the exchange with the two brothers.
She also followed through on their agreement, trading three tons of grain, and supplied three thousand liters of water each to Zhao Ping’an and Chu Peipei’s families at a third of the usual price.
She was run off her feet, and at the same time, Gu Zhiyu suddenly got busy as well, coming and going early and late just like her.
Neither of them saw much of each other during the day, only managing to have dinner together at night.
On the fifth day, after finishing all the water exchanges, An Nan could finally stay home and rest.
While Gu Zhiyu was out, she took the three little ones and the fifty-million-yuan jade bracelet and slipped into her space.
The jade vanished instantly, as always.
The three little ones went to drink water as usual, while she sorted her supplies and kept an eye on the time for her experiment.
To her delight, she discovered that the time she could stay in the space had increased to two hours.
What a deal!
She’d traded some of the villa’s unlimited tap water and gained so much extra time.
Although the teleportation distance was still only a hundred meters and hadn’t upgraded further, An Nan was already very satisfied.
After all, the longer she could stay in the space, the better her chances of survival.
If she could upgrade it to 24 hours, she could stay there forever, completely free from the troubles of the apocalypse!
She was still thinking about this when someone suddenly knocked on the door outside.
It was Zhao Ping’an.
Seeing An Nan and Chu Peipei, he said gravely, “Idol, Peipei, I don’t think this building is safe to live in anymore.”
An Nan and Chu Peipei exchanged glances.
Zhao Ping’an continued, “I’ve checked the building’s structure carefully these past two days. It’s basically a dangerous building now. As long as nothing happens, it’s fine, but if there’s even a small earthquake, this place definitely won’t hold up.”
An Nan knew that there wouldn’t be any earthquakes in the short term, so it was still safe to stay for now. In her previous life, she didn’t leave until the extreme cold hit, when she went to her scumbag dad’s villa in the hills.
Of course, this time, she didn’t plan to stay here forever.
The heavy fog would be coming soon.
When that happened, the city would descend into chaos. In her previous life, she’d been poor and kept a low profile, so she’d managed to stay safe.
But this time, things definitely wouldn’t be as peaceful. She’d probably have to deal with troublemakers coming by again and again.
Chu Peipei frowned at Zhao Ping’an’s words. “So, should we move?”
An Nan had already made up her mind, but she still looked at Zhao Ping’an. “What do you think?”
She knew that in her previous life, Zhao Ping’an had moved out of the neighborhood around this time. She was curious where he’d gone.
Zhao Ping’an seemed to have already made up his mind.
“I think we should move somewhere less populated. There’ll be fewer conflicts and it’ll be safer… What do you think about the hillside villas?”
An Nan raised her eyebrows—this was exactly what she’d been thinking.
There were fewer people up there, and after the fog hit, hardly anyone would be able to find their way up the mountain.
As long as they kept an eye on the other villa residents, it would be very safe.
Most importantly, there were a lot of rich people there, which would help her find high-quality jade to upgrade her space.
Chu Peipei, however, had some reservations. “I heard the official base is being built at full speed. Should we wait a bit longer and just move into the base?”
Zhao Ping’an disagreed. “Natural disasters come one after another. If there’s an earthquake or something, this building won’t last. It’s better to move sooner rather than later.
Once we’re settled in the new place, we can wait for news about the official base. At worst, we’ll just have to move again. We’ve got fuel and cars now, so it’s not a big deal.”
An Nan nodded. “I agree.”
The official base during the fog period was not a good option.
In her previous life, just as the base was finished and the first batch of residents moved in, the fog hit. The base, which should have been orderly, experienced several riots.
Basically, when the fog came, the more people there were, the more dangerous it got.
After hearing this, Chu Peipei nodded in agreement. “Let’s do it your way.”
So the three of them agreed to go check out the hillside villas together. If they found a suitable house, they’d start moving their things over in the next couple of days.
In her previous life, by the time An Nan moved there, more than half the houses were already empty.
Even the rich couldn’t survive four years of disasters.
But now, with the apocalypse only a bit over two years in, things probably hadn’t gotten that bad yet.
An Nan went back to her room, changed clothes, grabbed her weapons, left a note for Gu Zhiyu, and set off.
Aunt Hu stayed behind to watch the place, and Fugui could guard the house too. The three of them got into An Nan’s trusty Wuling van and headed straight for the hillside villas.
That used to be An Nan’s home, so she knew the way by heart and didn’t even need a map.
Chu Peipei sat in the front passenger seat, watching her thoughtfully.
After a while, she couldn’t help but ask, “Nannan, are you really okay with living there?”
An Nan focused on driving, not quite catching her meaning. “What do you mean?”
Chu Peipei said, “I mean, your dad and your stepsister live there too…”
She still remembered the conflict between An Nan and An Xiaobei at the water market.
After all this time, An Nan’s father still hadn’t come looking for her, which showed how heartless he was.
An Nan finally understood what she meant.
Chu Peipei was worried that being close to her scumbag dad’s family would hurt her.
She raised an eyebrow. “Don’t worry. I’m the one who makes others uncomfortable, not the other way around.”
Zhao Ping’an chimed in from the back seat, “Idol, you’re awesome! If anyone gives you trouble, we’ll help you take care of them!”
Chu Peipei nodded. “Yeah, we’ll deal with them together!”
An Nan smiled. “Alright.”
The three of them soon reached the winding mountain road.
To An Nan’s surprise, the security booth there was still operating as usual."
