Chapter 233: The Movie King
Natural Disasters and the End of the World, She Went Crazy After Stocking Up on Supplies
“Hey! Are you guys the police?”
A man in his thirties ran out from one of the villas, standing in his yard and calling out to An Nan and the others through the gate.
Chu Peipei and Zhao Ping’an looked down at the bulletproof vests they were wearing.
An Nan knew that the people living here were all wealthy and powerful, and there was a chance some might be hiding guns, so she’d deliberately brought three bulletproof vests from home before coming out.
The three of them only dared to swagger around the villa district searching because they were wearing the vests.
These vests had all been found at the police station earlier, and still had police insignia printed on them.
At first glance, they really did look like police officers on duty.
An Nan ignored the shouting man and kept walking forward.
Seeing he was being ignored, the man raised his voice.
“Hey, I’m talking to you!”
Soon, a beautiful woman in her twenties ran out behind him. When she saw An Nan and the others, she got even more excited than the man:
“Oh my god! Has order been restored outside? Or are you guys sent by the government to rescue us?”
She grabbed the man next to her excitedly:
“Darling, I told you! Now that the official base is built, they’ll definitely invite us to move in first! We pay so much tax every year, how could we be treated the same as those lowlifes!”
Chu Peipei frowned at her words.
What kind of thing is that to say?
What do you mean, “lowlifes”?!
Zhao Ping’an, however, was thoughtful. “Why does that guy look so familiar?”
Chu Peipei turned to study the man still shouting at them. “I think so too… Wait, isn’t that Wei Yang, the movie king?”
Zhao Ping’an’s eyes lit up. “You’re right! He looks even better in person than on TV—I almost didn’t recognize him.”
Wei Yang was the youngest ever double award-winning actor, born into privilege and famous from a young age, with a long list of acclaimed works.
Even someone like Zhao Ping’an, who didn’t usually follow entertainment news, knew who he was.
“Didn’t expect showbiz to be so lucrative! Not just anyone can afford a villa halfway up the mountain.”
An Nan, who hadn’t spoken, finally said, “He lives here because his family has always lived here. In this whole mountainside villa area, he’s the only celebrity.”
This was a place where real capital gathered, not somewhere you could join just by making a few quick bucks in showbiz.
Chu Peipei glanced back at Wei Yang. “Good thing I’m not his fan. His family’s got such poor manners. So what if they made a bit more money? Acting all high and mighty, calling others lowlifes.”
Zhao Ping’an looked at the woman. “Wait a minute! I remember Wei Yang’s wife is a foreigner, isn’t she?”
Chu Peipei paused. “That’s right! His wedding a few years ago was all over the trending topics. Lots of media accounts said their marriage symbolized friendship between two countries…”
Zhao Ping’an: “Then who’s this woman? She looks like someone from the entertainment industry too, but I don’t recognize her.”
Chu Peipei: “She does look familiar…”
An Nan glanced back. “That’s Jiang Mengqiu.”
Chu Peipei’s eyes widened. “Jiang Mengqiu? The professional homewrecker?”
Then she added, puzzled, “She looks so different in person! On TV she’s pretty recognizable, but in real life, she’s beautiful but kind of hard to tell apart.”
Zhao Ping’an looked at her. “She’s a celebrity too?”
Chu Peipei nodded. “An internet-famous starlet. No wonder you don’t know her.”
Then, a bit gossipy, she sighed, “So the rumors were true. This woman really likes getting involved with taken men. Wei Yang’s got a wife and she’s still hanging all over him.”
Inside the yard, Wei Yang and Jiang Mengqiu saw the three “police officers” not only ignoring them but also whispering among themselves, and immediately got annoyed.
Jiang Mengqiu’s voice turned shrill. “Hey! Are you deaf? Can’t you hear us talking to you?”
Wei Yang’s face darkened. “We pay so much tax every year, and this is the service we get?”
Jiang Mengqiu clung to him. “Don’t be mad, darling. They’re just three little cops—easy to deal with!”
Then, acting all high and mighty, she barked, “You in front—what’s your badge number? I want to file a complaint!”
The one in front was An Nan.
She turned her head and gave them a cold look, then decisively crossed the villa next to theirs off her list.
Too noisy—bad for living.
Plus, they had average intelligence but high social status, which meant they’d be trouble.
The three of them headed straight into a villa a bit farther away.
Wei Yang and Jiang Mengqiu were used to being adored by countless fans—when had they ever been treated like this?
Furious, they flung open the gate and stormed after An Nan and the others into the empty villa.
As soon as they entered, they saw An Nan’s group carefully inspecting the rooms.
Chu Peipei was squatting on the floor. “Hmm, the body here is still in pretty good shape.”
Zhao Ping’an bent down. “Yeah, not stuck to the floor or infested with maggots. Must not have been dead for long.”
An Nan glanced over calmly. “The owner was elderly. Be careful when we move the body—don’t cause any secondary trauma.”
Zhao Ping’an nodded. “Let’s just bury them in the yard. At least they’ll be laid to rest at home.”
Wei Yang and Jiang Mengqiu stood at the door, staring in disbelief at the scene before them.
Life up here on the mountainside was much more “peaceful” than outside.
Though it wasn’t as luxurious as before, most people had managed to maintain their pre-disaster dignity.
So, unlike those outside, they weren’t used to violence, death, or seeing “undignified” corpses.
Especially Jiang Mengqiu, who turned pale and immediately started gagging.
Wei Yang, trembling, raised his hand and pointed at An Nan. “You—you guys, what are you doing?!”
An Nan ignored him and instead raised her gun, aiming it at Jiang Mengqiu.
“Hold it in! Don’t you dare puke!”
The villa was big enough that cleaning was already a headache. If she vomited all over the place, how would they deal with that?
Jiang Mengqiu, already shaken by the sight, now terrified and nauseated, suddenly found herself staring down the barrel of a gun and panicked even more.
Overwhelmed, she actually swallowed it back down.
Wei Yang, beside her, was instantly disgusted. “Jiang Mengqiu! What are you doing?!”
Jiang Mengqiu, face ashen: “D-darling, I’m scared…”
These cops didn’t seem normal at all!
An Nan looked at them impatiently. “Out!”
Wei Yang, who’d always been surrounded by respect wherever he went, had never been yelled at like this.
His face darkened. “Which precinct are you from? How dare you talk to me like that! Don’t you know who I am?”
An Nan rolled her eyes at him and raised her gun again, this time aiming straight at his head.
“I don’t care who you are. I’ll count to three. If you’re not out of my sight, you’ll be out of this world.”"
