Chapter 125: The Pig Butcher, An Meili

Natural Disasters and the End of the World

As she walked further in, An Nan observed the layout of the base.

This villa complex was originally called Linglong Villas, made up of small, townhouse-style villas. Each unit covered just over a hundred square meters and had three floors.

After entering through the main gate and walking a few steps, you’d reach the outermost row of townhouses—the bunk rooms where ordinary residents lived.

A single villa could be crammed with a lot of people.

At this moment, many residents were outside, coming out of the villas in small groups.

At a glance, the contrast between the luxurious-looking villas and the survivors in tattered clothes was striking.

The people who built these villas probably never imagined that one day they’d be packed with people who could barely get enough to eat.

Because An Nan’s car was being personally led in by the registration guy, it drew a lot of curious stares.

Fortunately, An Nan had already put up privacy film on the car windows. She could see out, but no one could see in.

Fugui stood up from her seat, watching the people outside warily as they stared at them.

They hadn’t driven far before a metal gate appeared ahead, guarded by two burly men holding long knives.

The iron gate was completely different in style from the villas—clearly a later addition.

Ma Qiangzhuang whispered a few words to the two guards. One of them immediately walked over to the Wuling van.

An Nan cooperatively rolled down the window. The man glanced at her and Fugui, then broke into a smile.

“Welcome, honored new members!”

With that, he waved his hand. The other guard quickly opened the gate and handed Ma Qiangzhuang a key.

Ma Qiangzhuang took the key and led An Nan further inside.

The houses inside were the same as those outside, except it was much quieter here—she barely saw anyone along the way.

Soon, Ma Qiangzhuang stopped in front of a villa and unlocked the door with the key.

“Miss, this will be your place.”

An Nan got out with her dog and followed Ma Qiangzhuang inside.

The entrance opened into the first-floor living room.

Ma Qiangzhuang helpfully explained, “Miss, the house has three floors, each with bedrooms. No one’s moved into this one yet, so you can choose whichever floor you like.”

An Nan asked, “One person per floor?”

Ma Qiangzhuang replied, “One household per floor.”

An Nan nodded.

She hadn’t expected to get a whole villa to herself anyway. Being able to have an entire floor was already pretty good—much better than squeezing into a bunk room with strangers.

She glanced around, feeling quite satisfied.

She wouldn’t be staying long anyway. Once she dealt with Zhu Dazhuang, she could leave.

Ma Qiangzhuang asked, “Which floor do you want? Once you decide, I can help you move your things.”

“The third floor,” she said.

Higher up meant a better view, easier to keep an eye on things—and no one would be passing by her door.

Ma Qiangzhuang nodded and handed her the key.

“The third floor gives you more privacy, but since it’s the top floor, it can get a bit hot.”

“No problem,” An Nan replied.

She had air conditioning anyway.

Ma Qiangzhuang said, “Alright, if you’ve decided, I’ll help you move your luggage?”

An Nan declined, “No need, I can move it up myself later. You go on ahead, Brother Ma. Thanks for your help today.”

As she spoke, she took out a few liquor-filled chocolates and handed them to him.

This guy was honest, sensible, and talkative—he might come in handy later.

Ma Qiangzhuang grinned from ear to ear. “Miss, you’re too polite! If you ever need anything, just come find me.”

He understood that times had changed—people with resources didn’t want others to see their supplies, preferring to move things themselves.

So, happily pocketing the chocolates, he left.

As he walked away, he tucked the chocolates into his pocket like they were treasures.

These days, that was good stuff.

Sweet, high in calories—if you hadn’t eaten all day, just sucking on one would bring you back to life.

This girl was really generous!

He’d have to make sure to stick close to her in the future.

What was her name again? He’d better double-check the registration form when he got back and remember it well.

At the base entrance.

To avoid being noticed, Gu Zhiyu had deliberately kept a car between himself and An Nan’s Wuling van. Now, it was finally his turn.

He’d noticed An Nan’s special treatment and was pursing his lips in thought when the registration form was handed to him.

He glanced at the row above his own, where someone had scrawled their information in bold, flamboyant handwriting, and couldn’t help but smile.

Name: An Meili

Gender: Female

Age: 22

Occupation: Pig Butcher

Specialty: Butchering Pigs

Well… that was fitting.

Both times he’d seen this girl, she’d been calm and collected, wielding a knife to take someone down.

Gu Zhiyu’s lips curled as he filled out his own form.

Name: Gu Youcai

Gender: Male

Age: 28

Occupation: Livestock Farmer

Specialty: Butchering Chickens

An Nan carefully inspected the entire third floor, making sure there were no hidden cameras or bugs.

After the villa had been flooded, no one had lived here. It was filthy and messy, with lots of water-damaged furniture.

But An Nan didn’t plan on staying long. She just cleaned up the bedroom and bed.

Once the room was tidy, she started moving her luggage.

Even though she hadn’t seen anyone around, she was still on someone else’s turf and had to be cautious. She couldn’t use her storage space carelessly—walls had ears and windows had eyes.

If anyone noticed she hadn’t carried anything in yet still had food and supplies, that would be trouble.

So she had to move everything up herself, trip by trip.

When her luggage was finally upstairs, An Nan hung the curtains and drew them tight, finally letting out a sigh of relief.

In this sweltering heat, thank goodness for her temperature-regulating suit—otherwise, she’d have gotten heatstroke from all this work.

After a short rest, she poured food for her dog and took out a bowl of cold beef noodles and a glass of iced plum juice from her storage space for herself.

She ate comfortably, then installed the air conditioner and made her bed.

When everything was done, she put a collar on Fugui, locked the door, and went downstairs.

Since pet owners had special privileges here, she might as well use the excuse of walking her dog after dinner to scout around.

The villa An Nan was staying in was technically in the inner circle, but still closer to the edge.

From what she’d learned today, your residence reflected your status in the base.

The innermost area had to be where the base leaders lived.

She took her dog and slowly walked further in.

She barely saw anyone along the way.

Just as she was wondering if she could simply stroll into the innermost villas and go straight to Zhu Dazhuang, another iron gate appeared in the distance.

The fence next to the gate was over two meters high, topped with electric wires.

Two burly guards stood watch at the gate.

As soon as they saw someone approaching, they shouted from afar:

“What are you doing?!”"
