Chapter 19: She Has Diving Gear

Natural Disasters and the End of the World

At this moment, the space stretched as far as the eye could see—An Nan could no longer estimate its actual size. The small villa had transformed into a luxurious estate. Only three raw jade stones remained in the plaza, and the space showed no further changes.

Had it reached its limit? Would collecting more jadeite no longer upgrade the space?

After thinking it over, An Nan decided to put the remaining three raw stones into the space as well. She discovered that although the space itself didn’t change, the jadeite was still absorbed. Once the jadeite vanished from the space, the bracelet’s luster improved as usual—by now, it had reached a high-ice quality.

With all the raw stones collected, An Nan felt drained after spending so long in the water. She didn’t have the energy to think further and turned to swim back.

She’d study it more once she got home—after all, Fugui was still waiting on the boat.

At this moment, Fugui was standing at the bow, alertly scanning the surroundings. The moment he heard a splash in the water, he grew restless, sniffing the air frantically. When he saw his owner surface and remove her mask, he became ecstatic, his tail wagging like a propeller as he pawed eagerly at An Nan’s face.

An Nan frowned. “An Fugui, get off! You’re hitting my face!”

She dodged the overenthusiastic dog and climbed onto the boat to rest. After catching her breath, she took a few steaming buns out of her space, and the girl and her dog made quick work of lunch.

After eating, An Nan started up the inflatable boat, planning to explore elsewhere. She hadn’t gone far when she suddenly heard the roar of an engine.

Not far ahead, an inflatable assault boat was speeding toward her, sending up a spray of water. Behind it, a kayak was being towed. Together, the two boats carried about seven or eight people.

An Nan immediately became cautious. “Fugui, in the bag.”

Fugui nimbly dove into the open bag. An Nan slung the bag over her shoulder and pulled a nail gun from her space, staying on guard.

She was almost out of Kuancheng District. Beyond this point, in Zhongguan District, there was a cluster of office buildings where many people scavenged for supplies.

The nail gun was her trump card for survival—unless absolutely necessary, she didn’t want to brandish it and draw attention.

“Hubby, look, there’s an assault boat up ahead!”

“How could anyone be out here? Don’t tell me all the supplies from the Science and Tech Building have already been taken?”

“No way, it looks like there’s only one person on that boat.”

The man in the lead said, “Let’s go check it out.”

The group slowly approached An Nan’s boat. As they drew closer and saw her clearly, greedy looks appeared on their faces.

“She’s wearing a wetsuit!”

“That’s not all—she’s got an oxygen tank. She’s fully equipped for diving! With that gear, we could scavenge underwater too!”

“Her assault boat is better than ours—it’s fiberglass.”

The group could barely contain their excitement, chattering among themselves.

“She’s got a dog too. I saw it crawl into her bag just now.”

“People are starving, and she’s keeping a dog?”

An Nan frowned as the two boats drew closer and closer. There were seven of them in total—three couples and an old lady. They looked like a noisy crowd, but the real threats were the three men.

An Nan spoke up first. “You’re blocking my way.”

The man in the lead, holding a fire axe, gave her a sinister smile. “Little sister, meeting here must be fate. Want to make friends?”

An Nan replied, “Make friends? What’s in it for me?”

The man scowled. “Little sister, you shouldn’t be so materialistic.”

An Nan sneered. “Oh? And you’re not? Don’t you want my boat and my diving gear?”

“Bro, why waste words with her? Listen, girl, be smart! Leave everything you have, and we’ll let you go.”

“And the dog too! Ever since we finished off our old Huang, we haven’t had any meat in ages.”

Seeing she was alone, they spoke with utter arrogance.

A cold glint flashed in An Nan’s eyes. “And if I say no?”

The man’s face twisted with malice. “Then you can leave your life behind too!”

With that, their assault boat suddenly accelerated, aiming to ram into An Nan’s boat. The man in the lead raised his axe.

An Nan reacted instantly, firing several shots at their boat. Both their assault boat and the kayak were inflatable, and after being hit, they quickly began to leak air.

The women panicked. “The boat’s leaking!”

The man in the lead barked, “Quit screaming! Just get on her boat!”

He lunged, trying to board An Nan’s boat.

Before he could get close, An Nan shot him in the head. At such close range, the nail drove straight into his temple. The man collapsed instantly, his fire axe slipping from his hand.

Chaos erupted among the rest.

“Hubby!” the woman behind him screamed, eyes wide with rage.

“You little bitch! How dare you kill my husband!” She snatched up the fire axe and charged at An Nan.

An Nan dodged nimbly and fired the nail gun, hitting the woman right in the eye.

The woman shrieked in agony. “Aaaah! You little bitch! I’ll kill you, dig out your eyeballs, and eat your dog right in front of you!”

Eat my Fugui?

An Nan sneered coldly. “You? Not a chance.”

She fired several more shots at the woman’s head and chest without hesitation. The woman swung the axe wildly, but soon fell silent.

Meanwhile, the leaking kayak, weighed down with supplies, quickly sank, dumping its three passengers into the water. None of them could swim; they flailed and screamed for help.

The assault boat was leaking too. Aside from the fallen couple, there was a man and a woman left on board. The man reached out desperately to pull his mother from the water. “Mom, come here!”

The woman tried to climb onto An Nan’s boat, but An Nan kicked her straight into the water.

An Nan turned to the last man on the assault boat, raising her nail gun slowly.

“So it was you who bragged about eating your own dog, wasn’t it?”

The man was so terrified he let go of his mother, fumbling behind him for a kitchen knife.

But close-range weapons were no match for An Nan’s nail gun. Before he could get close, she shot him in the wrist, and the knife dropped instantly.

An Nan was about to finish him off when Fugui suddenly burst out of the bag. He leapt nimbly onto the enemy’s boat, then sprang forward and bit the man—

Right in the balls.

“AAAAAAHHHH!”

The man screamed hysterically. Already injured, he broke out in a cold sweat from the pain and toppled into the water.

An Nan hadn’t expected Fugui to rush out like that and was startled. “Fugui! Come back!”

By now, the enemy’s assault boat had completely sunk, and Fugui had fallen into the water too.

An Nan’s heart clenched—she was about to dive in after him when she saw him paddling confidently, his little face held high, doggy-paddling with all four paws.

He swam along, looking smug:

Bad guys! That’ll teach you to eat dog meat! Bite you to death!

An Nan couldn’t help but laugh. She scooped him up. “You silly dog, you really do understand human speech.”

By now, only two people who could swim were still thrashing in the water. The woman was desperately swimming away, while the injured man tried to climb onto An Nan’s boat.

Expressionless, An Nan grabbed him by the head and shoved him back underwater."
