Chapter 38: As Long As I’m Here, Don’t Even Think About Getting In

Natural Disasters and the End of the World

But Annan’s combat skills were just too high. If they weren’t careful, they could easily lose their own lives.

So, Qian Ying’er paid a hefty price, spending two days with a pervert just to get her hands on a bottle of knockout drugs from him.

He even threw in a set of universal lock-picking tools as a bonus.

The siblings planned to use the drug to knock Annan out, then, while she was unconscious, sever her hand and foot tendons so she’d lose the ability to resist.

After that, they’d use the lock-picking tools to break into her place, take all her stuff, and finally trade her for supplies.

Annan was so pretty—even if Brother Wang got tired of her, there’d be plenty of others willing to pay.

They could use her to keep earning food, over and over, until she was completely used up. And then, they could even get a taste of the “jerky” Sun Peng had sampled…

The more Qian Ying’er thought about it, the more excited she got. As soon as she got the drug, she dragged Bai Wenbin along to Annan’s door.

Afraid Annan wouldn’t open up, she even lied and said she’d seen her father.

From what Qian Ying’er knew, Annan was close to her dad—there was no way she wouldn’t open the door!

Now, seeing Annan already passed out and all those supplies within reach, Qian Ying’er could barely keep from laughing out loud just thinking about it.

She was different from her cousin.

Her cousin cared about food and supplies, but what she really wanted was to see that bitch Annan suffer!

Just imagining Annan trapped at home, at their mercy, being abused and then handed off to different men for supplies… That kind of utter despair made Qian Ying’er’s hands tremble with excitement.

The siblings didn’t waste any more time. They quickly took out the lock-picking tools and got ready to break in.

Qian Ying’er was impatient, eyes shining as she rushed to the front.

But as soon as her hand touched the door, she got shocked—her whole body convulsed, head jerking, limbs shaking uncontrollably.

Bai Wenbin stared, dumbfounded, at his sister suddenly going crazy.

…Why is she so happy? Is she dancing to celebrate already?

He froze for a moment before realizing: She’s being electrocuted!

Seeing her hand stuck to the door, Bai Wenbin instinctively reached out to pull her away, but then realized he’d get shocked too.

He hurriedly looked around for something insulating.

But the hallway was empty, and all their tools were metal—nothing useful at all.

Afraid of getting shocked himself, he hesitated for ages. By the time he finally had a flash of inspiration, Qian Ying’er was already smoking from the shock. He quickly took off his jacket, twisted it into a rope, looped it around her neck, and yanked her away from the door with a strong chokehold.

Qian Ying’er’s body stiffened and fell backward, the back of her head slamming hard against the floor.

Bai Wenbin breathed a sigh of relief and rushed over to shake her.

“Ying’er, are you okay?”

Qian Ying’er’s eyes were tightly shut, unresponsive.

Bai Wenbin slapped her face. “Cousin, wake up!”

Still no response.

He panicked for a bit, then finally remembered to do CPR.

He placed both hands on her chest and pressed rhythmically.

After two minutes of chest compressions, the wound on his shoulder from the triangular blade, which hadn’t healed, split open again, blood flowing freely.

Bai Wenbin gritted his teeth through the pain, face pale, but his cousin still wasn’t responding.

He frowned, about to give up, when Qian Ying’er finally opened her eyes slowly.

Bai Wenbin’s face lit up. “Ying’er, are you alright?”

Qian Ying’er stared at him blankly, saying nothing.

Bai Wenbin tried talking to her a few more times, but still got no response.

He frowned. Did the shock fry her brain? Or did she hit her head too hard?

But since she was awake, Bai Wenbin couldn’t worry about her anymore. If Annan woke up, they’d be in real trouble—she’d skin them alive!

The urgent thing was to get inside and control Annan first.

He helped Qian Ying’er sit against the wall and pressed her shoulder, instructing her,

“Sit here and don’t move. I’m going to find a hammer with a wooden handle. The door’s electrified—our tools won’t work.”

With that, he dashed home to get a hammer.

Soon, Bai Wenbin came back upstairs with new tools, only to see Qian Ying’er still sitting there like a wooden doll, staring blankly, face expressionless.

He sighed. Looks like I’ll have to do this myself.

He glanced at the stainless steel door and suddenly remembered there was another armored door inside. With the lock-picking tools useless, a hammer wouldn’t break through.

So he changed tactics, just like the neighbors had done last time, and started smashing the wall beside the door with the hammer.

His arm went numb from the impact, and the wound on his shoulder bled even more.

But he didn’t dare stop.

If he couldn’t subdue Annan soon, she’d wake up and hunt them down.

But if he could succeed, he’d have all the supplies he wanted.

Heaven or hell—it all depended on this.

Bai Wenbin swung the hammer with all his strength, eyes bloodshot.

Suddenly, a voice shouted from behind:

“What are you doing?!”

Bai Wenbin spun around.

When he saw who it was, he sneered: Just the widow from the 13th floor, Chu Peipei.

He put on a fierce look. “What’s it to you? Why are you yelling?”

Chu Peipei frowned. “You’re smashing Miss An’s door. Of course it’s my business!”

She’d come to bring something to Miss An, only to find someone here brazenly smashing the wall.

As a woman, she knew better than to meddle in other people’s business in times like these.

But Miss An was different.

If it weren’t for the medicine Miss An had given her a week ago, she’d probably be dead by now.

Her health had been improving these days, and she’d never forgotten Miss An’s kindness.

Chu Peipei glared at the man opposite her. She remembered the last time the neighbors attacked the 14th floor, it was these siblings’ idea.

Full of malice! Even after being chased away, they still came back to cause trouble.

Bai Wenbin raised his hammer, face menacing. “I’m warning you—mind your own business! Or I’ll deal with you too!”

Seeing this, Chu Peipei set her bag down, then pulled a long boning knife from behind her waist.

“As long as I’m here today, don’t even think about getting onto the 14th floor!”

She raised the knife, looking determined to fight to the end.

Bai Wenbin’s face darkened. Just my luck! Two electrified doors were already a pain, and now there’s another roadblock.

His cousin was still sitting there like an idiot, completely useless!

Should’ve checked the almanac before going out—nothing’s going right today.

He glanced at the time, eyes turning ruthless. I need to deal with her quickly! If I delay any longer, Annan will wake up.

Bai Wenbin gripped the hammer and charged at Chu Peipei."
