Chapter 40: Qian Ying’er Turns Into a Fool

Natural Disasters and the End of the World

Chu Peipei shook her head. “I don’t know. When I got here, I saw her brother smashing the wall like a madman. And she was just sitting on the ground, completely motionless, like she’d lost her mind.”

Qian Ying’er was still writhing on the floor, staring intently at An Nan.

After a while, she suddenly seemed to remember something. Her eyes widened and she shrieked:

“Ahhh! You bitch!”

She staggered to her feet and lunged at An Nan.

An Nan reacted quickly, sidestepping so that Qian Ying’er missed and crashed heavily to the ground.

Qian Ying’er lay there, not in any hurry to get up. Instead, she started giggling foolishly again.

“Hehehe, you’re An Nan! I know you, you’re a bitch!”

Hearing her spit out “bitch” over and over, An Nan’s anger flared.

She was used to Qian Ying’er’s inexplicable malice by now, but it still made her sick.

She grabbed Qian Ying’er by the collar and slapped her hard across the face.

With a loud “smack,” a bright red handprint appeared on Qian Ying’er’s left cheek.

“You drugged me, didn’t you?”

She slapped her again, this time on the right cheek.

“You smashed my wall, didn’t you?”

Left cheek, another slap.

“And you still dare insult me here?”

Right cheek, another slap.

“You filthy-mouthed wretch!”

“Smack, smack, smack, smack”—An Nan rained blows down on Qian Ying’er’s face, slapping her left and right.

Chu Peipei stared in shock as An Nan’s arm moved so fast it was almost a blur.

In no time, Qian Ying’er was beaten unconscious again, her face swollen like a pig’s head.

An Nan let go of her, pulled a wet wipe from her pocket, and wiped her hands.

She glanced down at Qian Ying’er lying on the ground. “Looks like she hit the back of her head—there’s blood. Probably knocked herself stupid.”

Chu Peipei said, “When I got here, it was just the two siblings. How did she manage to get hurt? That’s just bizarre.”

An Nan smiled. “My door is electrified. She probably got shocked and then fell.”

Chu Peipei nodded. “Serves her right! Came to someone else’s place to cause trouble and ended up ruining herself.”

She thought for a moment, then added, “Her brother’s no good either. He’s been running a brothel business in the neighborhood. He used to sell his sister’s body for food, and now he’s just abandoned her and run off.”

Selling her body?

An Nan’s lips curled with interest.

That never happened in her previous life. Who would’ve thought that after leaving her, these two siblings would fall so low?

She’d originally planned to just finish them off. But now, she suddenly changed her mind.

She glanced at Qian Ying’er, unconscious on the floor.

It’s only been two months since the disaster, and her two enemies—one’s become a pimp, the other a fool.

She was curious to see what would happen next.

How would Bai Wenbin deal with his now-idiotic sister?

The two of them used to be so close—would there come a day when they’d fight each other for food?

An Nan turned to Chu Peipei. “Keep an eye on her for me. I’m going inside to get something.”

“Okay,” Chu Peipei nodded.

An Nan went home, where Fugui rushed up to her, tail wagging, circling anxiously.

“Woof woof! Woof woof woof!”

Sister Nan, are you hurt?!

He sniffed her all over, checking nervously.

An Nan scooped him up. “Relax, relax, I’m fine.”

After sniffing for a while and seeing she really was okay, Fugui finally calmed down and snuggled obediently in her arms.

An Nan felt a warm glow in her heart. “Good dog, wait at home for me. I have to go out for a bit, but I’ll be back soon.”

Fugui immediately perked up.

???

Going out again!

He bit down on An Nan’s sleeve: It’s dangerous out there, don’t go!

An Nan stroked the fur on his back, soothing him gently. “It’s alright, there’s no danger this time.”

She set the dog down and took out some rations from her space.

Chu Peipei had brought her some biscuits. It wasn’t much to An Nan, but for Chu Peipei, it was life-saving food.

Not to mention, she’d bravely fought Bai Wenbin for her today.

Thinking about it, what Chu Peipei needed most right now was food.

An Nan took out a bag of millet, two bundles of noodles, a box of compressed biscuits, and several bags of bread.

All simple but filling food.

She also grabbed a jug of mineral water and several bundles of candles—good for cooking porridge or noodles.

She carried everything to the door, then thought for a moment and took out a nail gun and a few boxes of nails from her space.

Seeing her about to go out again, Fugui refused to stay home alone this time. He bit her pant leg, insisting on coming along.

An Nan had no choice. Since she wasn’t leaving the building anyway, she brought him with her.

When she opened the door, Chu Peipei was dutifully watching over Qian Ying’er outside.

An Nan handed her the food. “Thanks for today. Go home and get some rest.”

Chu Peipei saw what was in the bag and waved her hands frantically.

“No, no! How can I take more of your things?”

She’d already been grateful for the medicine An Nan gave her and just wanted to return the favor. How did it end up with An Nan giving her even more…

An Nan couldn’t be bothered to argue and shoved the things into her hands. “Just take it. Don’t argue. I have other things to do.”

“Oh, and this too.” She took out the nail gun. “From now on, if there’s trouble, just use this. No need to fight hand-to-hand.”

Chu Peipei’s eyes grew even wider at the sight of the nail gun.

“No, no! This is too valuable. You should keep it for yourself—I can’t take it!”

The world was in chaos now. Weapons were for survival. How could she just give one away?

An Nan shoved it into her hands again. “Take it. I have more than one nail gun. This one’s for you.”

Chu Peipei had given her warning notes twice in this life and last, and today she’d helped fend off Bai Wenbin. That was three times she’d shown her kindness for no reason.

An Nan felt a connection to her. Besides, these things didn’t mean much to her anyway.

She had plenty of food and more than one nail gun.

She might be cold and aloof most of the time, but she liked Chu Peipei and was happy to help her out.

Holding the food and nail gun, Chu Peipei’s eyes grew moist.

“Miss An… thank you, really.”

She’d said “thank you” so many times, but it still couldn’t express her gratitude.

All she’d done was write a little note to warn An Nan, and in return she’d gotten precious medicine, food, and a weapon in the apocalypse.

Looking at An Nan, she felt a warm glow surround her, her lips trembling as she struggled for words.

An Nan smiled. “No need to call me Miss An. I’m probably younger than you—just call me An Nan.”

Chu Peipei nodded vigorously. “An Nan, thank you.”

As the two of them were talking, a sudden scream rang out behind them.

“Ahhhhhh!”"
