Chapter 47: Double the Reward for You

Natural Disasters and the End of the World

Bai Wenbin was utterly dejected after coming up empty-handed. He had no choice but to take his cousin to look for that pervert who’d drugged them before.

Going home was out of the question.

If they didn’t get any food today, they’d have to go out hungry again tomorrow, and their condition would only get worse with each passing day.

So they had to get some food today.

Bai Wenbin thought to himself, That pervert has some pretty heavy tastes—maybe he’d even accept my cousin with her giant snot bubbles...

But that guy didn’t live in this neighborhood; it was a long trek to get there.

So Bai Wenbin had no choice but to squeeze into the bathtub with his cousin and paddle their way through the water.

Qian Ying’er was no help at all—in fact, she kept making things worse. She looked around excitedly:

“Hehehe! Water, so much water!”

As she spoke, she splashed water everywhere, drenching Bai Wenbin.

“Water! Here, have some water!”

“Qian Ying’er! Stop it! Can’t you behave?!”

Bai Wenbin was already exhausted from paddling the tub by himself, and now she was splashing him with filthy, stinky water, soaking him to the bone.

It was even worse because he had wounds on his body—the water stung like hell.

His eyes stung with tears. A grown man, nearly six feet tall, and yet he couldn’t help but cry.

Today was, without a doubt, the hardest day of his life.

He’d been humiliated and beaten by the woman he once loved, lost all his food and supplies, and now his cousin—who’d suddenly turned into an idiot—was splashing dirty water right onto his wounds!

Worst of all, he couldn’t even crawl into bed and cry under the covers.

Because there was no bed!

An Nan hadn’t even left him a bed!

Gritting his teeth, he endured the searing pain in his shoulder and arm, and kept paddling forward.

By the time they finally reached their destination, he was practically collapsed in the bathtub.

It was already getting dark. He took a deep breath, dragged Qian Ying’er ashore, and then climbed five flights of stairs to reach the pervert’s apartment.

The guy opened the door at the sound of his voice, and the first thing he saw was two swollen, bruised faces.

“...Bai Wenbin?”

Bai Wenbin’s eyes filled with tears—this was the only person all day who’d recognized him at first glance after he’d knocked on so many doors.

He said excitedly, “Brother Zhang, it’s me!”

He nudged Qian Ying’er forward. “This is my cousin.”

He put on his most pitiful face, tears in his eyes. “The drug you gave us worked great, but we still lost... Look at her, she got beaten stupid.”

This time, Qian Ying’er didn’t call the guy “handsome” like before. Instead, as if traumatized, she shrank timidly behind Bai Wenbin.

“Waaah, ugly man! Pervert! I’m scared!”

Bai Wenbin’s face turned dark. He pinched her hard. “What nonsense are you spouting? Hurry up and greet Brother Zhang!”

Brother Zhang was their last hope. Sure, he was a pervert, but a little humiliation was better than starving to death!

But Qian Ying’er just whimpered and hid behind him, refusing to move forward no matter what.

Pervert Zhang, on the other hand, looked unfazed, though a bit disgusted. “Stop pushing her. She’s got snot and tears all over her face. It’s gross.”

Bai Wenbin’s heart sank.

It was over! Even this pervert was grossed out by his cousin’s snot!

The more he looked at her, the angrier he got. Where did she even get so much snot from? She’d been dripping it all the way here.

Pervert Zhang looked at the two of them. Unlike everyone else, he didn’t slam the door in their faces. Instead, he suddenly grabbed Bai Wenbin’s hand.

He gave a meaningful smile. “Hey, little bro, why don’t you take her place? I’ll pay you double.”

Bai Wenbin stared at his pockmarked, acne-scarred face—when he smiled, all the wrinkles around his eyes bunched up together. Bai Wenbin suddenly felt nauseous.

He yanked his hand away, horrified. “Brother Zhang, what are you saying?! I’m a guy!”

Pervert Zhang winked at him. “I know. That’s why I said I’d pay you double.”

He’d already lost interest in Qian Ying’er—she was ugly, and always held her head high with a look of arrogance. Who knew what she had to be proud of?

But Bai Wenbin was different.

He was good-looking, knew how to read the situation, and clearly wasn’t above swallowing his pride to get things done.

Who wants to pay for trouble, anyway?

Besides, he’d never tried a man before...

Bai Wenbin felt the guy’s eyes roaming up and down his body. Instinctively, he covered his butt, feeling his worldview shatter and every hair on his body stand on end.

He forced a smile, uglier than crying. “Brother Zhang, please, stop joking...”

He tried to push Qian Ying’er forward again. “Look, I even brought my cousin for you.”

But Zhang didn’t care what he said. He just reached out and tried to drag Bai Wenbin inside.

“Come on, little bro, don’t be shy. I’ll treat you well.”

“Ahhh! Let me go!”

Bai Wenbin was scared out of his wits. He broke free, grabbed Qian Ying’er, and bolted down the stairs.

Zhang watched their panicked escape, not bothering to chase. Instead, he called after them with a laugh:

“Take it easy, little bro! Don’t fall! Come back and see me sometime!”

Bai Wenbin, battered and exhausted, paddled the bathtub home with Qian Ying’er.

After a whole day of running around, he was drained, losing blood, and now scared out of his mind. He was barely holding it together.

He slumped weakly in the bathtub, paddling a couple times, resting three, taking twice as long to get home as it had taken to leave.

When he finally dragged himself back to the empty, lonely apartment, he couldn’t help but take out his anger on Qian Ying’er.

He kicked her over with his foot. “This is all your fault! You just had to egg me on to mess with An Nan—look at the mess we’re in now!”

Qian Ying’er just lay on the floor, unresponsive, still staring at him with that vacant, silly grin.

Seeing this, Bai Wenbin felt like he was punching cotton—his rage had nowhere to go.

He collapsed on the sofa, breathing heavily, chest heaving.

Suddenly, as if he’d remembered something, he opened his eyes and shot upright.

“Chu Peipei!”

He ground out the name through clenched teeth.

He’d been so focused on finding food, he’d almost forgotten about that woman!

If she hadn’t shown up and messed things up, delaying him, he would’ve broken through the wall and taken care of An Nan already. None of this would’ve happened.

In that moment, he finally had a target for all his pent-up frustration and rage.

It was Chu Peipei! This was all her fault!

He clenched his fists, eyes flashing coldly, and sprang to his feet, heading upstairs.

He’d kill her!

That would finally vent his anger!

As he walked, he thought about how Chu Peipei had desperately protected An Nan today. He didn’t know how they’d gotten involved, but they must be pretty close.

Maybe An Nan had even shared some supplies with her.

Thinking this, Bai Wenbin’s steps became even more determined.

If I can’t rob An Nan, I can at least rob you!

With renewed energy, he marched upstairs. As long as he took care of her, he could vent his anger and get some supplies too.

When he reached apartment 1301, he couldn’t wait any longer and started pounding on the door.

“Chu Peipei! Get out here!”"
