Chapter 75: The President Likes You
Natural Disasters and the End of the World
Qian Yinger didn’t bother picking up the keys she’d dropped on the floor—she spun around immediately.
She stared in shock at the person on the stairs.
“An Nan?! What are you doing here?”
As if something had just occurred to her, Qian Yinger’s expression turned ugly.
“Were you following me?”
An Nan didn’t answer her question, instead asking again,
“Who did you say I was taken away by?”
Qian Yinger eyed her warily. “The police, obviously! Don’t you know what you did yesterday?”
An Nan curled her lips into a faint smile.
She’d thought this woman was up to something again, maybe had gotten someone to cause her trouble.
Turns out, Qian Yinger thought she’d killed a cop and was just waiting for her to get arrested and thrown in jail.
She was really overthinking it.
An Nan said, “If I’m about to be arrested, why are you running?”
Qian Yinger’s eyes widened. “Who said I was running? I’m here to drop something off for my cousin!”
“Oh? Then why is your cousin running?”
“He…”
Qian Yinger was at a loss for words.
How was she supposed to explain? That her cousin knew An Nan was about to be arrested, so he packed up and ran away in a panic?
How embarrassing!
She tried to sound tough, but her voice lacked conviction. “My cousin has lots of houses! He just moves around, none of your business!
Besides, you still haven’t answered my question—why do you keep turning things around on me?”
It was only now that Qian Yinger realized she’d been led around by the nose by An Nan this whole time.
An Nan hadn’t answered a single one of her questions, while she herself had been answering everything An Nan asked.
She put her hands on her hips, trying to regain the upper hand. “Why are you here, anyway? Are you following me?”
An Nan replied calmly, “Yeah. Got a problem with that?”
“You! You’re so unreasonable!”
Qian Yinger glared at her, feeling inexplicably frustrated.
“You beat me up so badly and I haven’t even settled the score with you yet!”
As she spoke, she rolled up her sleeve, revealing her arm covered in burn marks from who-knows-what.
An Nan raised an eyebrow at the sight of those ugly scars. “Who said I did that?”
“If it wasn’t you, then who else?!” Qian Yinger’s voice was shrill. “My cousin told me—it was you! You took advantage of me when I wasn’t in my right mind!”
An Nan couldn’t help but laugh. “Bai Wenbin said I did it?”
That guy really had no shame.
It was bad enough he abused his own sister, but now he wouldn’t even admit it and tried to pin it on someone else?
Qian Yinger thought An Nan was laughing at her, and her hands trembled with anger.
“An Nan, what makes you so arrogant?!
You really think you can get away with killing a cop? The disaster is over now—you’re in for it!”
An Nan looked completely unconcerned. “Oh, is that so?”
Qian Yinger: …
Arrogant! Way too arrogant!
Ugh, it was infuriating!
She felt like she was throwing punches with all her strength, but every one landed on cotton.
Watching Qian Yinger get so worked up over a few words, An Nan suddenly wondered what would be the best way for her to die.
She smirked inwardly, but her expression suddenly turned serious.
“The disaster really is over. The authorities even issued a statement—they’re going to give subsidies to survivors of the flood.”
“What?” Qian Yinger was thrown off by the sudden change in topic.
When did that happen? How come she hadn’t heard about it?
But seeing how serious An Nan looked, she couldn’t help but ask, “Really? They’re giving out subsidies?”
An Nan nodded. “Really. And the authorities also said that if your house was illegally occupied during the disaster, you can claim ten times the rent and compensation for damages.”
Qian Yinger’s eyes lit up.
An Nan looked at her, as if she’d just thought of something.
“That’s right, your apartment 802 was taken over by your downstairs neighbor, wasn’t it? You’re about to hit the jackpot.”
In the next room, Long Cong’an, who was eavesdropping, was completely confused.
What nonsense was her benefactor spouting? How could the authorities possibly make such an outrageous announcement…
Qian Yinger’s brain had only just recovered, and she wasn’t thinking too clearly to begin with. Now she was completely swept up in An Nan’s rhythm.
She didn’t even care about their previous grudges anymore—she was actually starting to do the math in her head.
Her apartment had been occupied for four months, which meant over ten thousand yuan in rent. Ten times that was a hundred thousand, plus compensation and the subsidy…
Her eyes sparkled: She could buy a car!
An Nan watched her get all excited and found it funny, but she kept going.
“Sigh, actually, there was a reason I suddenly cut ties with you before.”
Qian Yinger immediately looked at her—this was what she’d been most curious about: why An Nan had suddenly fallen out with her and her brother.
An Nan put on a wistful expression. “It was because I was jealous of you.”
Qian Yinger was stunned. “Jealous of me?”
An Nan? Jealous…of me?
She couldn’t believe it. What did she have that An Nan could possibly be jealous of?
An Nan said, “You know the Gu Group, right?”
Hearing her mention the Gu Group, the president and his assistant—Gu Zhiyu and Long Cong’an—who were eavesdropping from next door in room 702, both froze.
Why was she bringing them up?
Outside, Qian Yinger nodded blankly.
Of course she’d heard of the Gu Group—the leading company in Linbei City, sitting firmly at the top.
“The president of their company likes you.”
Qian Yinger’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. “L-likes me?!”
In the next room, Long Cong’an’s eyes nearly popped out too.
He looked at his boss in disbelief: You like that woman outside?
Gu Zhiyu’s temple twitched. He pressed his lips together and shot Long Cong’an a frosty look.
Long Cong’an immediately turned his head away.
Crap, the boss looks like he wants to kill me.
Meanwhile, out in the hallway, An Nan nodded sincerely.
“Yeah. Apparently, when you were working part-time as a hostess before, he noticed you at some meeting.”
Qian Yinger stood there in a daze, her mind racing.
She had indeed worked as a hostess a few times in college, serving drinks at business meetings.
Could it be that some big shot had really taken a liking to her?!
Inside the room, Long Cong’an was even more excited than she was, his gossip-loving soul burning bright.
What meeting? Which meeting? How come I don’t know about this? When has the boss ever gone to a meeting without me??
Gu Zhiyu: …
An Nan watched Qian Yinger’s reaction, the corners of her mouth curling up as she kept going.
“And once President Gu found out you were my classmate, he even sent his assistant to ask my dad about you. Apparently, he wants to marry you in style and make you a rich wife!”
Qian Yinger’s jaw dropped.
What? She was just one step away from marrying into a wealthy family?!
Long Cong’an, who had been eavesdropping with his ears pressed to the wall, finally snapped out of it.
He, as the assistant, had never asked about any beautiful women for the boss!
Benefactor, you’re always so steady—how can you make up such nonsense with a straight face?
He turned to look at his boss.
Gu Zhiyu stood there expressionless, as if he hadn’t heard a thing.
But Long Cong’an could clearly feel the chill in the air—the room was practically freezing.
Meanwhile, Qian Yinger was in high spirits, earnestly asking An Nan,
“How old is President Gu? What does he look like?”"
