Chapter 23: Reunion
Picking Up Trash in Another World and Bringing It Back to the Apocalypse
Grandma Lin had finally come back to her senses. She clutched Lin Muxue’s hand tightly and said, “Ah Chu, don’t blame your brother. It’s all this old woman’s fault for holding him back. If it weren’t for me, he wouldn’t have stayed in this place for Song Yao’s sake.”
Sang Chu replied, “Grandma, I don’t blame my brother. Being able to see him again is already more than enough.”
She had never expected to see those she thought lost forever. Being able to reunite was already a blessing.
When Sang Chu was putting the healing device on Sang Jingwen, he didn’t say anything. Just then, there was a sudden, violent banging on the door from outside.
“Sang Jingwen, get out here!”
“Sang Jingwen!”
Sang Jingwen held Sang Chu’s hand and whispered, “Wait here for a moment.”
Lu Minli asked, “Who’s outside?”
Sang Jingwen glanced at his sister and the others, then shot a meaningful look at them. “It’s Monkey.”
As soon as Lin Muxue heard the name, she flared up. “Brother Wen, is this Monkey the same guy who bullied people back in middle school and got beaten up by you?”
Sang Jingwen nodded. Sang Chu asked, “He’s the one who made things hard for you? What kind of power does he have?”
“He’s a Level Two ability user.”
Lu Minli closed his eyes for a moment to sense.
“There are a total of eleven people outside. Two of them are ability users, the rest are ordinary people. The other Level Two is the Monkey your brother mentioned.”
Sang Jingwen asked, “You’re a Level Two ability user too?”
Lin Muxue grinned, “Brother Wen, Ah Chu is a Level Two now! And so am I!”
She looked a little proud. Sang Jingwen, realizing he was just an ordinary person, felt a little complicated, but he still looked at Sang Chu with relief. “Sangsang, you’re amazing. Even better than your brother.”
He gently stroked Sang Chu’s head, but the banging on the door outside grew even more frenzied, as if they were about to smash it down.
Sang Chu glanced at the door, then calmly took out a cold, gleaming blade from her space. “Brother, this is a cold weapon. It can instantly kill ability users. I’ll explain to you later how I got all this. For now, I’ll handle things outside.”
She’d felt stifled for not being able to reunite with her family before. Now that Monkey had come knocking, she wasn’t about to let him go.
Lu Minli turned to Lin Muxue. “Xiaoxue, take Grandma into the portable space first. Leave this to us.”
Portable space?
Sang Jingwen looked at him in surprise, but Lin Muxue didn’t explain much. She nodded, then tapped her bracelet, and she and Grandma Lin disappeared together.
Sang Jingwen was stunned. “This... this...”
Sang Chu said, “Brother, I’ll explain everything to you later.”
“Okay.”
“Sang Jingwen, you coward, what are you hiding for? You’re not so tough now, are you? What are you afraid of!”
“Yeah, the boss has already announced new rules. You don’t have any immunity anymore, so get out here!”
Lu Minli looked at Sang Chu and Sang Jingwen, nodded, then quickly dodged to the side and opened the door.
Monkey sneered, “Looks like you’re really looking for death, taking so long to open the door.”
As soon as he entered, he saw Sang Chu standing beside Sang Jingwen. He laughed, “Isn’t this Sang Chu? Sang Jingwen, bringing outsiders into the base is against the law. This time, even Yi can’t save you!”
Sang Jingwen retorted, “Damn monkey, you only dare to act up when Ah Yi is out on a mission. When he’s here, when have you ever dared to act tough?”
“Monkey, why bother talking? The boss said to take care of them!”
Boss?
Sang Jingwen frowned slightly. He knew Yi and the base boss had their differences, but why was the boss targeting him now?
He was just an ordinary person—what threat could he pose?
Monkey said, “Exactly. He’s just a burden. Take him away!”
Monkey took a step forward.
At that moment, Lu Minli, who was hiding nearby, suddenly kicked him down and pinned him to the ground.
Sang Jingwen moved swiftly, punching Monkey hard. Monkey didn’t even have a chance to react before he was knocked out!
“Monkey?”
Sang Chu sneered, “Monkey? He’s not worthy of the name.”
Her voice was icy as she spoke, a blade of cold light forming in her hand. The only other ability user left hurriedly summoned earth spikes.
Sang Chu shouted, “Earth thorns!”
With a shout, the earth user’s spikes were instantly covered in countless green thorns. He couldn’t dodge in time and was pierced through.
Lu Minli knocked out the rest of the ordinary people with a few swift moves. “What should we do with these people?”
He meant to ask if they should get rid of them all—after all, in the apocalypse, showing mercy could mean leaving trouble for yourself.
But he didn’t dare say it outright.
Sang Chu just looked at Sang Jingwen. He understood and directly finished off the ability users.
“Sangsang, we can’t keep these people here. If someone finds out, I won’t be able to stay here anymore.”
Sang Chu asked, “Are you waiting for Yi, the one Monkey mentioned?”
“Yeah, he’s the base’s third-ranked fire ability user, and also my college classmate. He came here with me for a mission, but when the apocalypse broke out, we got trapped here and couldn’t move. He’s been helping me survive all this time.
I knew you were at the Wufeng base, but the people there are all petty and kept you locked up. Yi’s ability is much stronger than mine, so I couldn’t go save you. But Yi said he had a gift for you. Did you get it?”
Sang Chu nodded. “Let’s talk about that later, brother. I’ll deal with these people first.”
Sang Jingwen nodded and helped Lu Minli carry the bodies into the portable space.
He was still in shock.
Inside, Grandma Lin was squatting on the ground.
“Wen, Wen, Wen, is this Grandma making pickles?”
When Sang Jingwen entered, Grandma Lin blinked and muttered in a daze.
Sang Jingwen swallowed hard, shivering all over, and bit his arm to make sure he wasn’t dreaming.
“Hiss—”
“It’s not a dream.”
“Oh my, Sangsang, how did you do all this!”
Lin Muxue grinned, holding freshly washed fruit, and stuffed a handful into her grandma and Sang Jingwen’s mouths.
“Grandma, Brother Wen, Sangsang brought all this back. Eat up! These grapes are so sweet. I’ll never have to eat those weird things again!”
Hearing this, Grandma Lin’s wrinkled face was soon wet with tears. “As long as you’re living well, that’s all that matters. Grandma was always afraid you’d suffer outside. If I weren’t so old, I’d have gone with Ah Yi and Ah Wen to find you myself!”
“Don’t cry, Grandma. Now that I’m back, things will only get better from here!”
“Yes, yes, you’re all so capable. Everything will be fine!”
Sang Jingwen looked at Sang Chu, who had stopped what she was doing and took out a light bracelet from her space, putting it on his wrist.
“Brother, this is a light bracelet. I once got on a VR air train and went to another world. All this stuff is from the end times over there. There’s a lot of food and supplies in my space. It’s also thanks to the portable space that I could make it back here.”
Sang Jingwen hugged Sang Chu tightly, eyes red. “Thank goodness you’re safe!”"
