Chapter 36: Sang Jingwen’s Self-Rescue
Picking Up Trash in Another World and Bringing It Back to the Apocalypse
“Dr. Liao, we can’t wait any longer. He’s already suspicious of me—I’m scared, Dr. Liao.”
His wife is no fool, not someone easily tricked. If he hadn’t always used his younger brother as a cover to do shady things, she probably would’ve caught on to him long ago. His wife is someone he spent half his life pursuing, and even in the apocalypse, he can’t let anyone else take her away. Even if it means risking everything.
“Alright, alright. Take my work badge and go find Old Lin. Let him handle it. I have things to take care of here.”
If it weren’t for Jian Jian being useful, he’d have wanted to get rid of that little brat ages ago. Jian Jian really lives up to his name—such a troublemaker. For a woman, he’d even betray his own brother, and he’d sell out his own men and steal supplies from the base.
“Thank you, Dr. Liao. I’ll go right away.”
After taking Dr. Liao’s badge, Jian Jian hurried off, not realizing just how much Dr. Liao despised him as he watched him leave.
After injecting the blood into the experimental subject, Dr. Liao noticed a faint glimmer in his eyes and couldn’t help but get excited. “He’s awakened fire abilities! Hahaha, I have to tell Dr. Wei this great news!”
With that, he rushed out.
Lu Minli carefully approached Yi Ping’s side. This time, Sang Chu could clearly see his face and immediately said, “That’s him—he’s my brother’s friend, Yi Ping! My brother must be here too!”
Lu Minli nodded, but didn’t immediately act. He was still suspicious. Clearly, there was someone else here, but he just couldn’t find Sang Jingwen.
Suddenly, he sensed something strange. Turning around, Lu Minli was shocked to see someone had broken free from the prisoner’s control!
Sang Jingwen was mixed in with a group of laborers, his clothes filthy and tattered, looking completely unremarkable.
Lu Minli was stunned.
He quickly walked over to Sang Jingwen and whispered, “Brother Jingwen, it’s me, Lu Minli.”
Sang Jingwen froze. He’d crawled out of the pit, using the chaos among the laborers as cover, smearing mud all over himself, and putting on a worker’s uniform to blend in and escape. He hadn’t dared to contact his sister, afraid she’d worry—things here were even more dangerous than he’d imagined. He never expected Lu Minli to find him.
Unable to see Lu Minli clearly, Sang Jingwen nodded, then started smashing things like a crazed laborer, causing chaos in the room.
Afterwards, Sang Jingwen quickly grabbed some items that could awaken abilities.
Lu Minli took out a purple laser weapon and cooperated with Sang Jingwen’s actions.
In no time, the two of them managed to break out of the crowd.
Sang Jingwen glanced at Lu Minli and said, “Let’s go!”
He’d already unlocked Yi Ping’s restraints. Lu Minli quickly moved to his side and, taking advantage of the chaos, covered him with his ability.
“I’ll carry him.”
Sang Jingwen nodded. “I’ll cover you—let’s get out of here while we can!”
“Alright, you take the lead.”
Sang Jingwen was exhausted, but he didn’t dare let up. He held the unconscious Yi Ping tightly with one arm and gripped Lu Minli with the other.
“What’s going on?!”
“How did so many people escape?!”
“Where’s the blood pack? Where did that fire ability user go?!”
As soon as the supervisor realized something was wrong, someone noticed Yi Ping was missing.
The doctor was in the neighboring base, but as soon as he heard about the incident, he rushed over.
He ran right into Lu Minli, Sang Jingwen, and the others. The sudden encounter made everyone freeze.
The doctor sensed something was off and looked directly at Lu Minli’s group, drawing closer and closer.
Lu Minli gripped Sang Jingwen and Yi Ping tightly, holding his breath without realizing it, not daring to make a sound.
This was the Level 5 psychic Sang Chu had mentioned!
He could feel it!
Lu Minli met the doctor’s sharp, hawk-like gaze, forcing himself to breathe steadily and keep his mental waves under control, doing his best not to reveal any flaws.
“Doctor, Yi Ping is missing!”
The doctor took a step forward, then quickly turned around. “Seal the base! Detain everyone who entered or left today. Detain his family too. Notify the BOSS immediately. Lock down all the main gates—no one leaves!”
“Yes, sir.”
Everything was handled in an orderly fashion. The previously frantic crowd was now as docile as puppies under the psychic’s control.
Lu Minli didn’t dare linger, hurrying out with Sang Jingwen and Yi Ping.
Only after they’d left the doctor far behind and got into the car did they finally dare to breathe freely.
Even then, Lu Minli didn’t dare drop his guard, afraid the doctor would sense them and control him. If that happened, the three of them would be doomed, ending up as test subjects.
Once they reached the surface, Sang Jingwen spotted Yu!
He was outside the villa, seemingly up to something. Sang Jingwen grabbed Lu Minli’s hand. “That kid is Ah Yi’s younger brother. He’s probably here to look for him!”
“Should we take him with us?”
Sang Jingwen thought for a moment. “But Sang’s father isn’t a good person.”
Lu Minli nodded and explained what he’d found out. Sang Jingwen was in disbelief—he’d always thought Jian Jian just had a grudge against Yi Ping, but he never imagined he’d betray his own brother.
They couldn’t use the car for anyone else, so Lu Minli grabbed Yu. Just as Yu was about to shout, Sang Jingwen quickly covered his mouth.
“Kid, it’s me—your brother’s friend. This place is dangerous. We have to get out of here.”
Yu looked at Sang Jingwen, then at his unconscious brother, and nodded, even helping to support Yi Ping.
Lu Minli reported the situation to Sang Chu.
She was silent for a moment, then used her psychic ability to communicate directly with Lu Minli: How much longer can you keep your ability up?
Lu Minli: At most another hour.
Sang Chu: Can you get out of the city?
Lu Minli: I’m afraid not. Now we have Yi Ping’s brother too, and we don’t know his condition—he could be in danger.
Sang Chu: Alright, keep him with you for now. If he’s fine, I’ll let you use the car to get him out. Once you’re clear, you can leave the city.
At this, Lu Minli immediately understood what Sang Chu meant.
She didn’t want anyone else to know about her situation.
That was a good thing!"
