Chapter 40: Escaped
Picking Up Trash in Another World and Bringing It Back to the Apocalypse
As soon as the doctor withdrew his power, Sang Chu immediately broke free: “Thank you!”
“Run!” Sang Chu shouted angrily.
The spiritual energy in Nuo Nan’s hands slowly dissipated. The empty space that had been under the BOSS’s control was now released by Nuo Nan. The BOSS frowned, wanting to regain control, but at that moment, Sang Chu had already seized the opportunity, grabbed Tu You, and ran at full speed.
Watching the flames raging and the new city reduced to a pit, Sang Chu collapsed to the ground, and Tu You let out a long sigh of relief.
“You almost scared me to death! Why did you suddenly thank him? He almost—!”
“It was mental power. Earlier, when my brother was repairing things, I secretly practiced a bit too. Now it seems my mental power has improved. And this mental energy can condense into crystals outside my body. I guess my mental power was affected by that doctor’s attack, so I deliberately didn’t resist and let him control me.”
“You were using his mental power to temper your own? You’re really something. What if it hadn’t worked?”
Sang Chu said, “It worked out fine. There were so many psychic users, I could sense his mental threads, so I used my own to snatch some. Look.”
Sang Chu showed off her results—a pouch filled with spiritual crystals of various sizes and colors, each glowing with a different light. They looked quite pretty.
Tu You curiously touched one and found her own fingerprint left on the crystal. “Wow, this thing is fun!”
Thinking of this, Tu You remembered how the doctor had suddenly let go earlier. “But even so, why did the doctor suddenly withdraw his power?”
Sang Chu smiled mysteriously. “Because of this.”
She attached her power to a spiritual crystal and controlled it to slowly approach Tu You. The moment it got close, Tu You shivered.
She quickly jumped away. “What is that? Why does it feel a little scary?”
“I was just thinking, what if my power could directly enter someone’s body, like the way they mess with people’s minds? But that doctor was pretty cautious—just like you, the moment I reached out, he pulled back. But I really did mean it. He probably hates me now.”
“Why?”
“Didn’t you see the look in the BOSS’s eyes? That guy is definitely not a good person. I didn’t keep those crystals for myself—I scattered them around. Not only the doctor, but everyone can pick them up. Guess what? How could a ‘weakling’ in his eyes escape from the hands of five ability users?”
“You’re deliberately sowing discord?”
Tu You stared wide-eyed at Sang Chu, who just smiled. “Once the seed of suspicion is planted, it’ll take root. Even the smallest thing can be blown out of proportion. I don’t believe his group is really that united. Right now, they’re tied together by shared interests, but if that changes, they’ll turn on each other. The city is done for, and I don’t want to sit here waiting to die. Even though it’s dangerous outside, at least there’s a chance. As for what happens to their base, that’s none of my business. I’ve done all I can. Let’s go find my brother.”
Inside the base—
The BOSS glared at the doctor with his triangular eyes. “Why did you let her go?”
The doctor pushed up his glasses and glanced around at the others, especially the psychic users who had helped him control that woman earlier.
The doctor said, “That woman is strange. Just now, something from her power invaded my body!”
“What was it?”
The BOSS clearly didn’t believe him. The doctor couldn’t explain exactly what it was, just that it felt sticky and his instincts warned him that once it stuck, it would be hard to get rid of.
But at this point, there was no use saying more. “I can’t say for sure. Just be careful if you see her again. Is the antidote ready?”
Suddenly, someone rushed in, panic in their voice. “BOSS, doctor, the antidote is gone! And all the mutant plants Brother B researched have been taken!”
“What?!”
The BOSS and the doctor hurried to the storage room, only to find chaos. Whether poison or antidote, everything had been cleared out.
The place where the crystal cores were stored had also been blown up, and the floor was littered with people who had lost their powers due to poisoning.
The BOSS clenched his teeth and roared, “Spread her photo everywhere—I want her dead!”
The doctor added, “Notify all the major bases and anyone who has worked with me. Tell them, whoever finds her can have everything she’s carrying!”
The BOSS glanced at the doctor, who just smiled coldly. “That’s the only way to get those people to help us find her.”
...
Outside the city, when they reached a safe spot, Sang Chu put Tu You down.
“Brother, you’re awake?”
Yu He and Yi Ge were both there, along with Sang Jingwen.
When Yi Ge woke up and saw he was in a familiar place, with his brother and everyone else there, he said, “I made it out alive.”
Sang Jingwen said, “Yeah, luckily Sang Sang found us in time. Min Li’s power can shield us from psychic users. How are you feeling now?”
Yi Ge didn’t want to worry them, but he couldn’t hide his feelings. “Not great. My power… it’s gone.”
Yi Ge was clearly depressed. Now he finally understood why Sang Jingwen had always been bothered by losing his powers. In the apocalypse, having no powers was like being trash.
“Then isn’t this just what you need!”
Sang Chu took out the antidote she was holding. Yi Ge’s eyes lit up—he thought Sang Chu had gotten it from another world.
“This can restore my powers?”
Sang Chu handed him the antidote. “Yes, I stole it from their base!”
“Stole it?”
Sang Chu nodded. Yi Ge couldn’t wait and drank it down in one gulp. Instantly, he felt his power surging back.
He snapped his fingers, and flames danced at his fingertips. “My powers are really back! I’m healed…”
Sang Chu said, “Even though you’re recovered, you should still rest, brother. I’m going to sit with Min Li for a bit.”
“Okay, don’t worry about us.”
Sang Chu nodded and walked over to where Min Li was sitting by the road.
“Yi Ge’s going to be okay, right?”"
