Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Can You Do Me a Favor?
Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure
Wang Dilai came running home like the wind. She didn’t even make it inside, but plopped right down on the threshold of the main room, gasping for breath.
It took quite a while before Wang Dilai finally felt her heartbeat gradually return to normal.
Just as she was about to let out a sigh of relief, she looked up and saw Gu Mo walking in through the front gate.
He was still that same little three-year-old, waddling as he walked, looking like a single poke would knock him over. But now, in Wang Dilai’s eyes, he seemed completely different.
She stared at Gu Mo, full of suspicion, and as he drew closer, she shrank back, “Stop! Y-you, don’t come any closer!”
Gu Mo had already reached the middle of the courtyard. Hearing Wang Dilai’s words, he simply stopped where he was.
Wang Dilai swallowed hard and forced out, “You… go back to your room!”
Gu Mo’s eyes were as dark as ink, fixed on Wang Dilai. His gaze was like a deep, bottomless well, as if it could suck her right in.
That look made Wang Dilai even more frightened. She quickly turned her head away. “Go! Just go!”
Her voice was so loud and so out of the ordinary that even Gu Jiandong, who had been lying in bed inside, couldn’t ignore it. He got up and came out, “Ma, what are you wailing about in broad daylight?”
Seeing Gu Jiandong, Wang Dilai looked like she’d seen her savior. “Jiandong! Jiandong, hurry, hurry up and get him away from me!”
Gu Jiandong followed the direction of her finger and, spotting Gu Mo standing in the courtyard, burst out laughing. “Ma, what did this little brat do to you? How’d he scare you like this?”
“He—”
Wang Dilai opened her mouth, but found she didn’t know what to say.
With her mouth open, Gu Jiandong noticed she was missing two teeth.
He stared at her in shock. “Ma, what happened to your front teeth?”
Wang Dilai immediately covered her mouth, her eyes full of terror as she looked at Gu Mo. “It was him—”
But everything that had just happened was just her own feeling—she had no proof at all. Even if she wanted to say something, she didn’t know where to start.
Seeing her like this, Gu Jiandong’s expression grew a bit more serious. “Ma, do you think there’s something weird about this little brat? I’m telling you, he’s either a monster or possessed by something dirty. Remember last time, when my whole basket of stuff turned to stone after he touched it? I told you all then, but you didn’t believe me!”
Hearing Gu Jiandong bring this up, Wang Dilai became even more convinced there was something wrong with Gu Mo.
She thought it over carefully, then slowly stood up, holding onto the doorframe. “Right! He must be possessed by something dirty. We need to find the village shaman! We have to! I’ll go right now!”
As she spoke, Wang Dilai edged along the east side of the courtyard, and when she passed Gu Mo, she practically pressed herself against the wall, terrified that if she got too close, the “dirty thing” would eat her up.
Gu Mo watched as Wang Dilai dashed out of the house, his eyes full of mockery.
He wasn’t a monster, nor was he possessed by anything dirty.
If he could, he’d like to know why he’d ended up here, too.
He just wondered whether the shaman Wang Dilai was about to fetch would really have the ability to tell him the truth behind all this.
Gu Jiandong stood at the threshold, staring at Gu Mo for a while. Suddenly, he lowered his voice and asked, “Gu Mo, if you really are that capable, can you do me a favor?”
