Chapter 153: Chapter 153: The Snail

Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure

Yu Nuannuan waved at Yu Wei with a smile, wishing he would hurry up and go play so she could finally get some rest.

Xu Shuhua, watching from the side, also started laughing. “Wei, you’ll be starting school soon. When Nuannuan gets older and learns to walk, it’ll be your fifth and sixth brothers who take her out to play.”

Yu Wei, who had been about to run off happily, froze in place when he heard this.

Yu Nuannuan looked at Xu Shuhua, who was smiling from ear to ear: That hurts, Grandma!

In the end, Yu Wei still dashed off. After all, the first day of school was getting closer and closer—he wanted to enjoy every last day of freedom!

Xu Shuhua picked up Yu Nuannuan and went outside as well. It had just rained, so the air was much cooler—perfect for taking Nuannuan out for a stroll.

As they walked, they soon arrived at the little courtyard where Gu Mo’s family lived.

It had only been three days since they last visited, and not much had changed. The only difference was that the three rows of vegetable beds in the yard were now sprouting with tender green shoots.

The fresh green color was a delight to see.

Gu Mo was squatting at the edge of the vegetable patch, a small bundle of a boy who looked especially cute.

Xu Shuhua walked over and called out, “Daibao, what are you up to? Where are your parents?”

She had already reached Gu Mo as she spoke.

Gu Mo stood up when he heard her, his chubby little hands smeared with a bit of mud, holding a snail.

Startled, the snail had quickly withdrawn into its shell.

Gu Mo raised his hand high. “For Nuannuan!”

Yu Nuannuan reached out to take it, but Xu Shuhua stopped her at once. “Good boy, Daibao. Nuannuan is too little to play with it. You play with it yourself. Where are your parents?”

Gu Mo looked at the snail in his hand, not quite understanding why Xu Shuhua wouldn’t let Yu Nuannuan play with it, but he still answered, “They’re inside.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Qin Yuelan and Gu Jianguo came out of the house one after the other. “Oh, Auntie, you’re here? Come inside and sit.”

Xu Shuhua shook her head. “Why sit inside? It’s nice and cool out here!”

As she spoke, she glanced over their faces. Seeing that they looked normal, she felt a bit relieved—seemed like nothing was wrong.

Gu Jianguo turned and went back inside to bring out a long bench, placing it under the shade of a tree. Xu Shuhua carried Yu Nuannuan over and sat down.

No sooner had they settled in than Gu Mo came over.

He was still holding the snail. “Nuannuan!”

Now that Xu Shuhua was sitting, Gu Mo was just the right height to look Yu Nuannuan in the eye. He held up the snail, nearly poking it into her face.

Yu Nuannuan really did want to touch the snail.

In the apocalypse, there weren’t just zombies—plants and animals mutated, too.

She’d seen snails before, but they were giant ones, each with a shell as big as a house.

The bigger they were, the more they ate. A tree a meter or two tall would be devoured in no time.

Just thinking about a swarm of giant snails eating was enough to make Yu Nuannuan shudder.

The snail in front of her was much cuter!

Even little Gu Mo could easily hold it in his hand.

Xu Shuhua didn’t quite understand why Gu Mo was so insistent on giving Yu Nuannuan the snail today, but she still didn’t want her to have it.

Xu Shuhua opened Yu Nuannuan’s little satchel and took out a fig. “Daibao, go wash your hands and have some fruit.”

Gu Mo’s eyes lit up at the sight of fruit—he hadn’t had any of Yu Nuannuan’s transformed fruit in ages (well, actually just three days). “Okay!”

He turned and ran off, dropping the snail back into the vegetable patch as he passed by, then went to wash his hands."
