Chapter 48: Chapter 48: The Shameless One

Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure

Yu Nuannuan woke up a bit late today. By the time she opened her eyes, only Chen Qiaoqin was by her side.

After Chen Qiaoqin helped her with her morning routine—taking care of her needs, washing her face and hands, and having breakfast—Gu Mo still hadn’t shown up.

Yu Nuannuan found it odd. Why hadn’t Gu Mo come today?

Noticing Yu Nuannuan glancing repeatedly toward the door, Chen Qiaoqin was puzzled at first, but soon realized what she was looking for.

“Nuannuan, are you looking for Dumbie?” she asked.

Yu Nuannuan turned to Chen Qiaoqin, her eyes full of anticipation, waiting for her to go on.

Chen Qiaoqin picked Yu Nuannuan up, grabbed a little hat and put it on her, and headed outside as she explained, “Now that the fieldwork is done, Dumbie’s mom has time to look after him, so she didn’t bring him over today. But if you miss him, let’s go see what he’s up to at home!”

After all, the Gu family lived right next door—it was just a few steps away.

Yu Nuannuan was delighted to get out of the house.

Since she was born, she’d spent most of her time indoors, or at most in the Yu family’s courtyard. She could count on one hand the number of times she’d actually gone out.

Come to think of it, she really ought to thank Gu Mo.

If it weren’t for him, she wouldn’t have a reason to go out again!

Chen Qiaoqin carried Yu Nuannuan out of the Yu house, didn’t bother locking the door, just pulled it to, and walked toward the Gu house.

Before they even reached the Gu family’s gate, they could already hear shouting coming from the courtyard.

Chen Qiaoqin frowned and instinctively wanted to turn back, but Yu Nuannuan suddenly grabbed her finger and pointed her chubby little hand at the Gu family’s door. With no choice, Chen Qiaoqin braced herself and kept going.

What else could she do when her little fairy wanted to go? Of course she had to spoil her!

At the gate, Chen Qiaoqin could see clearly what was happening in the yard.

At this hour, it was odd that the entire Gu family was home.

“Mom, Dad, don’t be mad! Even if I marry Chunxiang, I’ll still be your son. I’ll still be filial to you, I promise! Aren’t I your favorite? Why won’t you let me marry the woman I love?”

It was Gu Jiandong speaking. He stood in the shadow under the eaves, a smile on his face. The way he spoke made people want to hit him.

Old man Gu, Gu Hongqi, pointed at Gu Jiandong, speechless with rage.

Wang Di, on the other hand, wasn’t angry—she was wiping away tears.

“Jiandong! Have you lost your mind? You’re a man of the Gu family, good-looking and well-educated. How can you rush to be a live-in son-in-law? If word gets out, what will people think of you? What will they think of our Gu family? Listen to your mother—break it off with that Li Chunxiang. I’ll find you someone better!”

“No way!” Gu Jiandong’s smile vanished. “Mom, I only like Chunxiang. I won’t marry anyone else!”

“Then have her marry into our family!”

“Mom, that’s not fair to her. She’s the only child in her family. Her parents are counting on her to support them in their old age!”

“And your dad and I aren’t counting on you to support us in our old age?”

“I never said I wouldn’t! Besides, isn’t there my big brother and sister-in-law? What are you worried about? If they dare not be filial, I won’t let them off!”

At this, Chen Qiaoqin nearly laughed out of exasperation.

She’d always known Gu Jiandong was shameless, but she hadn’t realized he could be this shameless."
