Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Clearing Out the Fish Nest
Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure
Yu Jiang rubbed his lower back and grinned at Xu Shuhua. “Mom, we caught so many fish today! We can really eat our fill tonight!”
“All you think about is eating!” Xu Shuhua shot Yu Jiang a look. “Go borrow the tricycle from the village chief right now. We’ll load up the fish and take them to the county to sell.”
Yu Jiang hadn’t even considered selling the fish they’d caught. He was stunned for a moment when he heard Xu Shuhua’s words. “Take them to the county to sell?”
“What, you want to keep them all to eat? With this many fish, we’d never finish them!”
Xu Shuhua finished speaking and, seeing Yu Jiang still standing there, gave up on him. “Old Fourth, you go. Hurry up.”
“Okay!” Yu Hai answered quickly, scrambled up the bank, put on his shoes, rolled up his sleeves, and took off running. In no time, he was out of sight.
Seeing this, Xu Shuhua nodded in satisfaction.
To be honest, all four of her sons were obedient and filial.
But when it came to quick thinking, the three older ones together couldn’t match the youngest.
Yu Jiang and the other two climbed out of the water and put on their shoes.
Xu Shuhua glanced at the water plants still floating in the river and called out to Yu Jiang again. “Eldest, pull up those water plants. The fish seem to like eating them. Pull some out, chop them up, and put a bit in each bucket.”
Yu Jiang looked at Xu Shuhua with some confusion.
Aren’t we taking the fish to sell? Why bother feeding them?
Though that’s what he thought, Yu Jiang didn’t hesitate to get to work pulling up the water plants.
He might not be the sharpest, but he wasn’t stupid. He could tell Xu Shuhua had just been annoyed with him. Now that she’d given him something to do, of course he had to jump on it and redeem himself.
Just as Yu Jiang finished pulling up the water plants, Granny Wang arrived with her son and daughter-in-law.
They weren’t the only ones—quite a few villagers had come over.
As soon as everyone saw the buckets and basins full of fish, they erupted in shock.
“Heavens! How many fish did you catch?!”
“The Yu family must’ve cleaned out the whole fish nest!”
“With so many, how long will it take to eat them all?”
“Are there any fish left in the river?”
“Old Lady Yu, how did you catch so many fish? Teach us your trick!”
Xu Shuhua shook her head. “The river’s right here. Catch as many as you want. I don’t have any special tricks! I was just playing with the kids and got lucky, that’s all!”
Granny Wang curled her lip. “Lucky, huh! You just don’t want to tell us the real way!”
“So what?” Xu Shuhua’s voice rose. “I’m not telling you—what are you going to do about it?”
Granny Wang: “…”
What could she do?!
Knowing she wouldn’t get anything out of Xu Shuhua, Granny Wang gave up asking. She trotted over to the riverbank, eyes wide, afraid to miss a single fish.
But after searching for a long time, she didn’t see a single fish.
That made Granny Wang furious. “Old Lady Yu, this river doesn’t belong to your family! How could you catch all the fish?”
Xu Shuhua snorted. “You talk like the river belongs to your family! However many fish I catch, that’s my skill! If you’ve got the ability, go ahead and catch every fish in the river—I won’t say a word!”
If you don’t have the skills, don’t stand here whining. Xu Shuhua looked down on Granny Wang even more.
Just then, Yu Hai returned with the tricycle.
The riverbank was all rocks, so he couldn’t bring the tricycle right up. He parked it on the road nearby.
Yu Hai ran over and asked Xu Shuhua what to do next."
