Chapter 139: The Mother-Daughter Con Artists

Reborn in the Eighties: Remarrying a Soldier

Fu’s mother had come prepared; she pulled out a sturdy cloth strap.

She used the strap to carry one child on her back, while holding the other in her arms.

“I’ll take care of both kids. You just make sure to carry the luggage,” she said.

Seeing her mother already had the children settled, Fu Mingxue picked up the two bundles.

When they got off the train, the people sitting across from them hadn’t gotten off yet, since they had even more luggage than the two of them.

Fu Mingxue ignored them.

She’d had enough of that mother-in-law and daughter-in-law pair these past few days.

Fu’s mother walked ahead, since Fu Mingxue still had to keep an eye on the child on her mother’s back.

Fortunately, they managed to get off the train without any trouble.

“Daughter, where’s the person who’s supposed to pick us up?” Fu’s mother looked around anxiously.

In this unfamiliar place, as a simple rural woman, she couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

“Mom, let’s head out of the station first. They should be waiting outside.”

“Alright, let’s go out first.”

They followed the crowd out of the station.

Before Fu Mingxue could even look for their contact, someone ran up to her. “Hello, are you Comrade Fu Mingxue?”

Fu Mingxue looked at the young soldier and nodded. “Yes, I’m Fu Mingxue.”

“Comrade Fu Mingxue, I’m here to pick you up. My name is Yang Ming, I’m also a comrade of Comrade Qin’s.”

After confirming his identity, Fu Mingxue said, “Thank you! Let’s go then!”

“Sister-in-law, let me carry those,” Yang Ming quickly corrected his address and took the two large bundles from Fu Mingxue’s hands.

Fu Mingxue didn’t argue, and instead took one of the children from her mother.

“Mom, let’s go.”

“Alright.”

Fu’s mother hurried to keep up.

The two of them walked over to the car.

Fu’s mother first took the child off her back before getting into the car.

Once everyone was seated, Yang Ming started the car and drove away from the train station.

“Sister-in-law, you can rest for a while. Our unit is about two and a half hours from the train station—it’s a bit of a drive.”

“It’s fine, thank you for your trouble.”

“Sister-in-law, it’s my duty. It’s no trouble at all!”

Yang Ming didn’t say much more for the rest of the trip.

Fu Mingxue also stayed quiet.

After all, the road was a bit bumpy, and she didn’t want to distract the driver.

──

Meanwhile, the difficult mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law got off the train a bit later. By the time they exited the station, they saw Fu Mingxue and her mother getting into a car—and the driver was clearly a soldier.

The older woman immediately grew anxious. “Why are they getting a ride too? Isn’t that the car that’s supposed to pick us up? Why did it leave?”

“Did he pick up the wrong people?”

But before she could call out, the car had already driven off.

She was both angry and flustered. “What’s going on? Doesn’t that soldier know he picked up the wrong people? Now that he’s gone, what are we supposed to do?”

The young daughter-in-law tugged at her arm. “Mom, that car definitely wasn’t for us—”

The older woman glared. “Shut up! Are you blind? That was someone from the army. My son must have sent him to pick us up.”

“Mom, really, it wasn’t. Look, Dad’s here—”

Just then, a delighted voice called out, “Mom! Wife, I’m here to pick you up!”

“Son!” The older woman—Mrs. Hao—was overjoyed to see her son.

The young daughter-in-law was also happy to see her husband.

Hao Rong smiled at his wife, then quickly said, “Come on, let’s go back to the unit.”

But Mrs. Hao stopped her son.

“Wait, son, you came to pick us up, but just now there was a soldier who picked up another pair—a mother and daughter who are con artists—”"
