Chapter 34: Hoisted by One’s Own Petard
Reborn in the Eighties: Remarrying a Soldier
Mrs. Fu didn’t go anywhere; she just waited at home.
As soon as she saw the two of them return, she couldn’t wait to ask, “Did you get your marriage certificate?”
“We did.”
“We did!”
Fu Mingxue and Qin Wenhuo answered at the same time.
Mrs. Fu: …?
She felt a little unsteady on her feet.
“—Let me see that marriage certificate.”
Fu Mingxue looked at Qin Wenhuo. “Give my mom your copy.”
Qin Wenhuo took the marriage certificate, which he’d folded into a small square, out of his pocket.
“Here you go, Mom.”
When Fu Mingxue heard him call her mom, her eyes widened in shock.
Who was he calling mom?
Did he really see himself as the son-in-law already?
Isn’t he getting into this role a bit too fast?
Qin Wenhuo noticed her changing expression and found her quite amusing.
Mrs. Fu was also stunned for a couple of seconds after hearing Qin Wenhuo call her “Mom”—it felt a little strange.
She took the marriage certificate and opened it—when she saw her daughter’s and Qin Wenhuo’s names on it, she stared at it for a long while.
Then she handed the certificate back to Qin Wenhuo.
“Son-in-law, keep it safe!”
Fu Mingxue: …?
Wait a minute, aren’t the two of them adapting to these new roles a little too quickly?
It made her feel like she was the odd one out.
“Since you’re married now, you should live your lives well together from now on. By the way, son-in-law, when are you going back? And, shouldn’t you tell your family about getting the marriage certificate?”
“Mom, I’ll head back tomorrow. I’ll call my family and let them know about me and Mingxue getting the certificate. Actually, this is what they wanted too—they hoped Mingxue and I would register the marriage. As for the wedding—”
Fu Mingxue couldn’t listen any longer at this point.
She quickly interrupted, “There’s no rush for the wedding!”
Now that the sword hanging over her head was gone, she had no intention of actually holding a wedding.
She’d already said she wouldn’t have children, so they’d definitely get divorced in the future.
If she weren’t worried about upsetting her mom, she’d want to get divorced right away.
As soon as she spoke, both Mrs. Fu and Qin Wenhuo looked at her.
Fu Mingxue felt a lot of pressure and forced a smile. “What I mean is—there’s no rush for the wedding. I have to report to university after the New Year, so there’s not enough time for a wedding. It’d be better to wait until—” next year’s end.
By then, they’d probably be divorced already.
Before she could finish, Mrs. Fu cut her off, “Then let’s wait until summer vacation. You’ll have two months off—just right for a wedding.”
Fu Mingxue: …?
“Sure. We’ll do as Mom says,” Qin Wenhuo nodded.
Fu Mingxue: …?
He was the one who wanted to call off the engagement before, so why is he calling her mom so enthusiastically now?
Right now, Mrs. Fu was looking at Qin Wenhuo just like the old saying goes—a mother-in-law looking at her new son-in-law, the more she looks, the more she likes him.
“Since today is your big day, let’s celebrate with a nice dinner. I’ll go kill a chicken—son-in-law, you and Mingxue should have a good chat.”
The newlyweds had only just met today—they were still strangers.
A good chat would help them get to know each other.
At this moment, Qin Wenhuo quickly said, “Mom, I have something to take care of. I’ll head out for a bit and come back later.”
Mrs. Fu nodded when she heard this. “Alright, but make sure you’re back before dinner.”
“I’ll be off, then.” Qin Wenhuo nodded at Fu Mingxue and then left the Fu house.
Fu Mingxue: …?
Mrs. Fu glared at her daughter. “Since you insisted on this marriage, you’d better live well with your husband from now on. And as for those two kids, you need to treat them well too.”
To be willing to adopt his comrade’s children—this son-in-law really has a good character!"
