Chapter 6: Mother Fu Shows Her Might

Reborn in the Eighties: Remarrying a Soldier

The matchmaker’s smile froze for a moment, but she quickly forced it back on.

“Congratulations, old sister! Who would’ve thought your daughter, Mingxue, would be so accomplished, getting into university! But—”

She suddenly changed the subject. “Getting married is like a second life. Song Yan is doing well in the army, and I hear he’s about to be promoted. He’s got a bright future ahead of him, and he’s good-looking too. Isn’t that the very definition of young and promising?”

“Of course, he does have three kids at home and a bedridden mother, but that’s nothing. Song Yan’s salary is high. If Mingxue can’t handle it all by herself, his older sister can help out.”

Mother Fu’s face darkened. “Enough. My Mingxue is focused on university right now. She’s not getting married. You can leave now—”

The matchmaker was a little unhappy. “Sister, that’s not right. What’s the point of a woman studying so much? In the end, isn’t she still going to get married? Song Yan already said he’s willing to hand over his entire salary to his wife. You won’t find a better match even if you search with a lantern—”

Unable to listen any longer, Fu Mingxue came out. “If it’s such a rare and wonderful match, then it shouldn’t go to waste. I heard, Aunt Zhao, that you have several marriageable girls in your own family! Why not introduce one of them to Song Yan?”

The matchmaker—Aunt Zhao—froze.

Did she not want to? It’s just that Song Yan wouldn’t look at her girls.

“Mingxue, you tell me! Is Song Yan a good match or not?”

Fu Mingxue sneered. “How would I know if he’s a good match? If he really was, why would he be divorced? If he’s so great, Aunt Zhao, why don’t you marry your own daughter to him?”

“I don’t care if he’s good or not. The man I marry must be marrying for the first time, and he can’t have kids. You want me, a never-married girl, to be stepmother to three children? Aunt Zhao, aren’t you just trying to ruin me?”

“And another thing—” Mingxue’s eyes were full of open disdain. “A man who’s still tangled up with his ex-wife actually has the nerve to look for a new wife.”

Aunt Zhao was left speechless.

Mother Fu’s face grew even darker. “My daughter is not going to be anyone’s stepmother! You’d better leave! If you’re so keen, why don’t you introduce your own daughter to him?”

Fu Mingxue added directly, “He just tried to help his ex-wife steal my university admission letter. I think this marriage proposal is just a cover—what he really wants is to help his ex-wife scheme for my admission letter. He’s shameless.”

“That’s impossible—” the matchmaker immediately denied such a ridiculous thing.

Mother Fu couldn’t hold back her anger anymore and shouted, “Tell Song Yan to get lost! My daughter earned her university admission letter with her own effort. If his ex-wife wants one, let her study hard and take the exam herself! Trying to scheme against my daughter? No way.”

She reached out and shoved the matchmaker out the door.

The matchmaker stumbled but couldn’t afford to lose her temper.

After all, if what this mother and daughter said was true—Song Yan really was no good.

Looks like there’s no money to be made here.

“Mom, I’m going to settle the score with Bai Siqi—”

Mother Fu glared at her. “You stay home. I’ll go.”

Then she walked out herself, slamming the door behind her. She called back to Mingxue inside, “Don’t you dare come out.”

Fu Mingxue: …?

Mother Fu stormed over to the Bai family’s house.

She banged hard on their door. “Bai Siqi, get out here right now—”

“Bai Siqi, get out!”

A neighbor, seeing how furious Mother Fu looked, came over and asked, “What’s going on?”

“That shameless Bai Siqi! She actually tried to intercept my daughter’s university admission letter. How can she be so shameless? If she doesn’t have the brains to get in herself, does she have to steal someone else’s?”

“How did her parents raise someone with such a vicious heart?”

The neighbors were all stunned by this bombshell—was it really true?

“Bai Siqi, come out right now! Don’t hide like a cowardly turtle—”"
