Chapter 97: Clearly Guilty

Reborn in the Eighties: Remarrying a Soldier

“Alright,” Fu Mingxue nodded.

After washing up, she went to have breakfast first.

She found that her mom had made wontons.

When she went to check on the kids, she saw the two little ones were already awake with their eyes open.

“Sweeties, come on, let’s get up.”

She helped the two children get dressed, then washed their faces and hands.

“Mommy will cook some little wontons for you.”

The kids looked pretty healthy today, so they should be able to eat some wontons.

Besides, it was obvious her mom had made extra—clearly for the two children.

When she finished cooking and started feeding them, she found they really liked it.

——

That morning, Mother Fu hauled back another cartload of things.

This time, there was a color TV and an electric fan.

“Mom, you’re really something.”

“I bought some red paper. Later, cut out some double happiness characters for me—I want to put them up. And write some festive couplets too, I bought ink and brushes. Cut the paper nicely and come up with some good, celebratory couplets.”

Mother Fu knew her daughter had beautiful handwriting.

So there was no need to ask anyone else.

Besides, they’d only been here less than two days—who would they even know?

“—Alright!”

Fu Mingxue realized her mom really valued these rituals.

While Mother Fu tidied up, she checked for anything missing.

If there was anything else they needed, she could go out and buy it in the afternoon.

It was just a pity there wasn’t enough time—otherwise, she’d have made sure everything was perfect.

——

When Mother Lan saw her daughter had come home, she was a bit puzzled. “Why are you here? Isn’t your husband’s family the busiest right now?”

Lan Qingman didn’t look happy. “Let them be busy, what’s it got to do with me? I’m just the eldest daughter-in-law.”

Mother Lan noticed her daughter’s expression was off.

“What’s wrong? Who upset you?”

“My mother-in-law is so biased. She gave Qin Wenhuo so much money for the bride price, and that wasn’t enough—she even gave them a really nice courtyard house, a two-entry one at that! That’s worth a lot of money!”

Mother Lan frowned at this. “Why would she give them a house? Didn’t you say last time that the money included the house?”

She’d been upset about the bride price when she first heard about it.

She’d even gone over to confront them—but their explanation left her with nothing to say.

The Qin family had said—the house they lived in would go to the eldest son in the future, and the ten thousand yuan bride price included the house.

In other words, if Qin Wenhuo didn’t live with the Qin family in the future, the house would have nothing to do with him.

“Hah, they even lied to me, saying that house was bought by Fu Mingxue and her mother themselves. That’s just ridiculous! Those two came from the countryside—where would they get the money for a house? They’ve never even been to Beijing before, so how could they buy a house? They must think I’m an idiot.”

The more Lan Qingman spoke, the angrier she got.

Mother Lan was furious too.

“If that’s true, the Qin family is way out of line. I’ll have your brother go ask what’s going on.”

Lan Qingman’s face darkened. “Don’t bother. I already asked last night. They denied everything and told me to mind my own business.”

Mother Lan was fuming.

“Unbelievable! They’re being so unfair and won’t even let anyone talk about it. Where is that mother and daughter’s house?”

“I don’t know. I wanted to go see it yesterday, but they deliberately wouldn’t let me.”

If she hadn’t overheard her mother-in-law yesterday afternoon, she wouldn’t even have known the house was so nice.

But when she asked for the address, her mother-in-law just wouldn’t tell her.

Why wouldn’t she say? Clearly, there’s something fishy going on—they’re guilty, that’s why!"
