Chapter 149: Becoming Spider-Woman

Returning to Before the Apocalypse, I Emptied the World's Supplies

“It’s too dark in the hallway. Want me to help you pry the door open?” Ye Qing stepped forward and offered.

This building was fully renovated.

The security doors were already installed, and a red Chinese knot hung from the handle, giving it a festive look.

But the door was locked. To get in, they’d have to break it down.

Jiang Yan shook her head and declined with a smile, “No need, I’ll just go back to the place from earlier.”

Sun Jingtao watched her leave, feeling a bit guilty inside.

It was probably that honey ginger tea that upset her stomach.

The honey at home had been exposed to high temperatures, so it was likely spoiled.

“Let’s go, Tao, Zhao. We should discuss how to get in.” Ye Qing said, heading toward the bathroom first.

The apartments here didn’t have curtains installed yet.

Only the bathroom had a small ventilation window, making it the most private spot.

“Yeah,” Sun Jingtao and Zhao Pengfei followed him in.

Meanwhile, Jiang Yan closed the door to the apartment across the hall, went straight into a bedroom, and locked the door behind her.

The room was empty, with a thick layer of dust on the bay window.

With a thought, she took out a dust cover from her space and spread it out, then pulled out a laptop and a hard drive.

“Jie jie jie?” Mama, what are you doing?

Next to her, Huabao’s beady little eyes were wide and round with curiosity.

It had overheard all of Sun Jingtao and the others’ conversation.

It knew they were about to head somewhere dangerous.

Jiang Yan joked, “I’m going to play secret agent.”

“Jie jie jie!” Secret agents are so cool! Mama, I want to be a secret agent too!

Jiang Yan smiled, turned on the laptop, and glanced warily outside.

The computer booted up quickly. Jiang Yan plugged in the hard drive and started searching.

Earlier, when she’d paid someone handsomely to download and back up some online data for her, they’d also suggested—including for the price—collecting some architectural blueprints for Anming, among other things.

That person was a top hacker, able to break into all sorts of systems and databases.

She hadn’t paid much attention at the time.

But now, if the blueprints for the 101 Sky Hotel happened to be in there, sneaking in would be much easier.

At least she could avoid those annoying surveillance cameras.

Of course, maybe she was overthinking it.

Maybe the enemy had already cut off water and power.

Besides, it was pouring rain outside, and with Sun Jingtao and the others nearby, she couldn’t take out her flight suit.

But she still had her wall-crawling gadget in her space.

And that, at least, was easy enough to explain.

【101 Sky Hotel HVAC System Blueprints.CAD】

【101 Sky Hotel Surveillance Camera Layout.CAD】

【Boyue Royal Mansion Blueprints.CAD】

【......】

The search results popped up quickly.

Jiang Yan’s heart leapt. “Huabao, look! Memorize every detail of these blueprints.”

She could only get a rough idea herself—the rest would have to rely on Huabao, her “AI brain.”

With Huabao navigating, she wouldn’t have to worry about dropping into the wrong spot and getting riddled with bullets.

“Jie jie jie! Got it, Mama!”

Four or five minutes passed in a flash.

Jiang Yan put the laptop back into her space, took out a vanilla latte to drink, chewed a piece of gum to mask the coffee smell, and then left the room.

When she returned to the previous apartment, Sun Jingtao and the others were crouched on the floor of a small street-facing bedroom, drawing an assault plan with their fingers on the dusty tiles.

The floor was covered in dust, which made a perfect canvas.

“Jiang Yan, you’re back. Are you okay?” Ye Qing looked up, concerned.

“I’m fine,” Jiang Yan nodded, then asked, “What are you guys doing?”

Sun Jingtao explained their plan, then said,

“We’re thinking of splitting into pairs and sneaking in after dark. One team will look for where the kids and women are being held, the other will go after Ma Longbiao or their boss. What do you think?”

Jiang Yan thought for a second, glanced at the three of them, and said, “I’m planning to sneak in from the rooftop.”

“The rooftop?!” The three men stared at her in disbelief.

Even if there was power, taking the elevator to the roof wasn’t realistic.

Let alone now, with no electricity at all.

If the enemy had backup power, they’d use it for critical systems, not the elevators.

“That’s right,” Jiang Yan nodded.

“But how are you going to get up there?” Ye Qing asked, puzzled.

“I’ll climb up the exterior wall.”

As she spoke, Jiang Yan opened her backpack and took out a strange device that looked like a black turtle shell and two gecko-like claws. “I bought this wall-crawling gadget for a lot of money when I was filming high-altitude exploration videos.”

She made up the story on the spot.

None of the three were her die-hard fans, so they had no idea what kind of videos she’d filmed.

Besides, she was known as a rich heiress and influencer with plenty of time and money.

As long as it wasn’t a hot weapon or a yacht or helicopter, she could always find an excuse to pull out some high-tech gadget.

Her backpack was already deflated, looking like it was made just to carry this thing.

And as for the “a lot of money,” she wasn’t lying—it had cost her two million.

After all, it was a brand-new product developed by the US military at great expense.

“......” This time, the three men were completely speechless.

They’d only ever seen stuff like this in sci-fi movies.

In real life, most of these products were just flashy concepts.

“Wow, poverty really limits my imagination! I remember seeing something like this in a movie years ago—wasn’t it Jason Statham in ‘The Mechanic’? I never thought it actually existed!” Zhao Pengfei exclaimed, then glanced at the shotgun on Sun Jingtao’s back and sighed heavily.

“To be honest, being able to team up with you guys this time—I could die happy!”

Jiang Yan: “......”

Sun Jingtao stared at the strange gadget for a long moment, a flash of wariness in his eyes. “Jiang Yan, you—” Did you actually go through secret agent training?

If she had, and was hiding out in an ordinary neighborhood, she was probably an agent from an enemy force.

No wonder his wife had always wondered why someone worth billions, with dozens of luxury homes, would move into a regular apartment complex.

And she had a gun—and was such a good shot.

It all made sense now.

After all, the line between friend and foe was always clear.

But then he realized—what kind of agent would admit to being an agent?

And right now, she was risking her life to save people with them!

Forget it, he was probably overthinking.

Jiang Yan just made a questioning sound, not realizing that he’d just gone through a whole mental spiral and talked himself out of it.

“It’s nothing, I was just overthinking.” Sun Jingtao gave an awkward smile, then joked, “So, Jiang Yan, are you about to become Spider-Woman and infiltrate the enemy’s lair?”"
