Chapter 31: If Gods Stand in My Way, I'll Slay Gods!

Returning to Before the Apocalypse, I Emptied the World's Supplies

Everyone exchanged glances, and in unison, their eyes darted toward the elevator.

He Chunmei, who had been about to continue her shouting match with Su Dai and her husband, instantly clamped her mouth shut.

Looking at this bizarre scene, Su Dai couldn't help but shake her head. She leaned in and whispered to Sun Jingtao:

“Honey, isn’t this whole thing just the definition of melodrama? It’s so over the top, it’s almost comical!”

She didn’t want to keep watching or get involved, so she simply grabbed her husband and headed for the stairwell.

“Ding!”

The elevator doors slowly slid open.

Everyone was already itching to rush forward and surround whoever came out.

But when they saw Jiang Yan stride out, exuding an intimidating aura, carrying a massive chainsaw, they all instinctively took several steps back.

Jiang Yan, standing at 1.68 meters tall and wearing 8-centimeter-thick, non-slip, heat-resistant platform shoes, had on sunglasses and a slightly odd, sci-fi-looking aluminum foil heat suit.

She was thin, but her presence was overwhelming, radiating an intense pressure.

At first glance, she looked just like a badass female warrior straight out of Resident Evil.

And with that chainsaw in her hand, buzzing menacingly, the intimidation and horror levels instantly maxed out.

She might as well have had “If gods stand in my way, I’ll slay gods; if Buddhas block me, I’ll slay Buddhas” written across her face.

He Chunmei wiped the sweat from her forehead, exchanged a look with Zhang Qiqi, and whispered:

“Holy crap! Where did that brat get such a huge chainsaw?!”

“Big sis, did she borrow it from the property management office on the first floor? But I don’t remember them having one that big,” Zhang Qiqi replied, puzzled.

She’d visited the property office a couple of times after moving in and had only seen small chainsaws.

But He Chunmei quickly caught on and shot a look at the people around her.

Two kids, who’d been about to dash over to Jiang Yan, froze in fear when they saw the roaring chainsaw.

All the words everyone had been preparing to say got stuck in their throats.

Before anyone could speak, Jiang Yan abruptly switched off the chainsaw with a sharp click, looked at the crowd with icy determination, and said, enunciating each word:

“I’ll say this one last time: you have ten seconds to get away from my door. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens next!”

Jiang Yan had no intention of wasting words with them.

She just wanted to cut the nonsense and get straight to the point.

The crowd looked at each other for a second.

Some of them had just been swept up in the commotion, thinking they might as well join in since they had nothing better to do.

A few of the moms, having experienced their husbands cheating during pregnancy, absolutely hated mistresses. After He Chunmei’s instigation, they’d assumed Jiang Yan was one and wanted to punish her.

But now, faced with this display of power, whether she was a mistress or not was suddenly irrelevant.

They couldn’t afford to mess with her.

Definitely not.

Some quickly made up their minds and were ready to leave.

After all, it was just about cooling off in the AC—no need to risk their lives for it.

Zhang Qiqi, noticing the crowd’s resolve wavering, quickly forced a smile, stepped forward, and said:

“Hey, what are you doing, sis? We’re all neighbors, all friends here, right? Let’s just talk—”

“Clang!”

Before she could finish, Jiang Yan let out a cold laugh, swung the gleaming chainsaw, and rested it heavily on Zhang Qiqi’s shoulder.

“!!!”

The icy metal and the weight pressing down made Zhang Qiqi’s pupils contract and her body tremble involuntarily.

“Oh my god!!”

Everyone else gasped in shock.

“Mama!”

Seeing this, Song Xiaofei darted over and hugged Jiang Yan’s leg, crying, “Auntie, please, don’t hurt my mom!!”

“Miss, is this really necessary—” He Chunmei started, but the words caught in her throat.

Because she could clearly see Jiang Yan’s wrist twist slightly, laying the chainsaw flat across Zhang Qiqi’s shoulder, the blade just inches from her delicate, pale neck.

Everyone broke out in a cold sweat for Zhang Qiqi.

If Jiang Yan’s finger slipped and hit the switch, Zhang Qiqi’s head would be rolling.

Sure, this was a law-abiding society, and she probably wouldn’t actually do it.

But judging by her outfit and demeanor, she might just be crazy enough.

Would a lunatic really kill someone in front of witnesses?

Who knew.

Anything was possible.

Besides, those with nothing to lose aren’t afraid of those who do.

Everyone here had families to worry about.

She might not dare to go after them directly, but what if she targeted their elderly parents or young kids later?

Some people started to back down.

Others secretly tried calling the police.

But the line was clearly busy.

One woman picked up her phone—maybe to record evidence or start a livestream—but Jiang Yan spotted her instantly.

“Put the phone down!” Jiang Yan barked.

The woman, startled, sheepishly put her phone away.

Jiang Yan clenched her other fist, forcing herself to be patient as she added:

“Let me make this clear: even if I lived in a thousand-square-meter house and slept on a five-hundred-square-meter bed, it would have nothing to do with any of you! Whether I let you in or not is my choice—whether I want to be subjected to your moral blackmail.

But if you keep blocking my way home, then you’re breaking the law by obstructing my right of passage! If you’re sure you want to commit a crime, I’m happy to help you out!!”

Her words were clearly aimed at the rabble.

Most of them had already wanted to leave, but felt too embarrassed.

Now, after hearing this, they nudged each other, hung their heads in shame, and dispersed.

With Jiang Yan standing at the elevator, no one dared approach.

They all took the stairs down to the 31st floor before switching elevators.

“Sis, what are you doing?” Zhang Qiqi had lost all her earlier bravado. Now, as the crowd dispersed, she trembled even harder, her face growing paler by the second.

Jiang Yan clenched her jaw and spat out two cold words: “Teaching you a lesson.”

“Me? Why? I didn’t say anything! If anyone deserves it, it’s He Chunmei! She’s the one who stirred everyone up, saying you were a mistress, saying you were evil!

She said—” Zhang Qiqi stammered, pointing at the remaining He Chunmei, her voice rising in panic.

He Chunmei’s face turned from green to white as she listened, wishing she could slap Zhang Qiqi right then and there.

Jiang Yan sneered, “Do I need a reason to teach you a lesson?!”

With that, she took a few deep breaths.

She’d imagined a thousand ways to deal with Zhang Qiqi.

But for now—

Just hold back!

She had to keep her rationality!

Zhang Qiqi felt a chill down her spine, her legs going weak. She nearly collapsed in front of Jiang Yan.
