Chapter 141: Yue Bai Is Way Too Generous

Scavenging in the Wasteland

The warehouse Yi Zhe mentioned was located in a collapsed industrial park.

And this was just a small warehouse, yet inside there were 10,000 boxes of vacuum-sealed bags.

Each box was packed tightly, filled with large bags of pre-packed vacuum-sealed pouches.

The size of these boxes was even bigger than the ones Shi Yuebai had found last time in Xiao Lingye’s team.

Shi Yuebai lowered her head, looking at the photos on her communicator.

Then she carefully read through the messages Yi Zhe had sent.

[Shi Yuebai: Okay, bring them over.]

[Shi Yuebai: Move everything to the security line for me. Take as much time as you need, and today’s debt will be wiped clean.]

[Shi Yuebai: I’ll also give you 1,000 portions of potatoes as payment for the transport.]

Yi Zhe didn’t reply for a long time.

Shi Yuebai started to worry that maybe her offer was too low.

Just 1,000 portions of potatoes to get mercenaries to move so many vacuum-sealed bags?

That was almost an insult to the mercenaries.

But what she didn’t know was that Yi Zhe’s communicator had already been snatched by Chen Yong.

“Oh my god, Yue Bai is way too generous! She’s asking us to move some stuff, doesn’t even care how long it takes, and she’s giving us 1,000 portions of potatoes!”

Chen Yong was practically trembling with excitement, and couldn’t help but blurt out,

“Captain, do you know how good those potatoes are?”

He still felt stuffed from eating them.

There was even soup in the potato packs, and the soup tasted great too.

All in all, the value for money was incredible.

Yi Zhe snatched his communicator back.

He saw the new photo Shi Yuebai had just sent.

It was a picture of an open space, not far away.

These 1,000 packs of potatoes, plus waiving today’s debt for the mercenary group—

It was an amazing deal.

Truthfully, the mercenary group was down to just 200 people now.

These 200 had been rotating shifts at the front lines nonstop.

Shi Yuebai’s potatoes came in 1,000-gram packs—one pack could feed three mercenaries.

And they’d stay full for a long time after eating.

With 1,000 packs, the mercenary group could last for quite a while.

Of course, it wasn’t like they were short on food.

They were the first to take the front lines.

The front lines were areas survivors had never set foot in before, and the mercenaries were always the first to find large amounts of food in these uninhabited zones.

But honestly, the quality of processed food these days was pretty low.

And most of it was contaminated with radiation.

Thinking of this, Yi Zhe took out a radiation detector and scanned the opened potato pack in Chen Yong’s hand.

[Scan result: 0% radiation contamination.]

Chen Yong jerked his head up, a slice of potato in his mouth, not sure whether to swallow or spit it out.

Shi Yuebai’s potatoes were only sold for 1,000 credits a pack.

And he’d just eaten a 0% radiation potato?

He looked at Yi Zhe.

Yi Zhe just raised his eyebrows, saying nothing.

He wasn’t all that surprised—he’d eaten a few 0-radiation potatoes at the Shi family’s place last time.

But Chen Yong, trembling, swallowed the precious 0% radiation potato.

He saw Huo Chenggui walking over, and immediately snatched another potato pack from him and tore it open.

Huo Chenggui: “What’s wrong with you? Are you addicted to stealing my potatoes?”

[Scan result: 0% radiation contamination.]

Huo Chenggui: “(⊙o⊙) Wow~~”

He and the dazed Chen Yong went on to open several more packs for testing.

All of them were 0% radiation potatoes.

Chen Yong collapsed to the ground, still clutching the pack he’d just opened.

“Oh my god, oh my god.”

“They’re all 0-radiation, all of them…”

He suddenly realized that Shi Yuebai was about to give them another 1,000 packs of potatoes as payment.

Chen Yong scrambled to his feet.

“Captain, I’m going to move the goods!”

He was completely stunned by Shi Yuebai’s generosity—the value of this was enough to shock the entire wasteland.

Huo Chenggui realized it too. He thought for a moment, then turned to Yi Zhe.

“Captain.”

Yi Zhe’s face was serious. Before Huo Chenggui could say anything, he ordered in a low voice,

“Collect all the radiation detectors from the mercenary group.”

Before any more mercenaries could discover this, they gathered up all the radiation detectors.

That way, no one else would find out these potatoes were 0-radiation.

Yi Zhe trusted his men, but the fewer people who knew, the less risk there was of the secret getting out.

Huo Chenggui took off running, and soon came back with a big bag full of radiation detectors.

The mercenaries didn’t know why he was collecting them, but if he wanted them, they handed them over.

Then Yi Zhe assigned a team to go to the collapsed industrial park and carry out all the boxes of vacuum-sealed bags.

Originally, Yi Zhe had planned to have the mercenary group deliver all the goods to Shi Yuebai before the next mutant beast horde arrived.

But after several trips carrying boxes, Chen Yong suddenly asked with a puzzled look,

“Captain, why do I feel like the pile of goods on that open ground never gets any smaller?”

There were 20 mercenaries assigned to carry the goods.

Each could carry three boxes at a time, so by now they should have moved out at least several hundred boxes.

But the pile on that small patch of ground still looked like only a dozen boxes or so.

Yi Zhe closed his eyes, lowered his voice and said,

“I don’t feel that way.”

Chen Yong looked at Huo Chenggui.

Huo Chenggui shook his head. “Yeah, I don’t feel that way either. Looks the same to me.”

He turned and walked away quickly, as if afraid Chen Yong would question him further.

He ran off faster than a rabbit.

Chen Yong scratched his head, then turned back to keep hauling boxes.

Meanwhile, Shi Yuebai’s storage space was almost overflowing with boxes.

A Hong came over to Shi Yuebai, looking miserable.

“We’ve already cooked so many pots of potatoes, and packed 2,000 bags of them.”

“But the goods just keep piling up here, more and more…”

Now, as soon as she stepped out the courtyard door, the boxes were stacked higher than her head.

Moving them from the Pang family’s gate to Shi Yuebai’s place had taken A Hong a lot of effort.

Pang Zhenggong couldn’t move them at all.

When he led scavenging teams out, he had to go through the back yard, around the vegetable patch, and out via the public toilet.

Then he’d huff and puff past the trash heap to the second wall.

Truly a hard life.

If Pang Zhenggong was struggling, Shi Yuebai was even worse off.

She couldn’t even get out the door.

Seeing A Hong’s miserable face, Shi Yuebai said,

“Then just stack all the goods behind the public toilet for now.”

The drainage ditch was already filled with piles of expired processed food.

Any empty space was packed with potatoes, mushrooms, scallions, baby cabbage, cilantro, chives, amaranth.

There wasn’t room for a single thing more in the ditch.

Xu Xuejiao still needed to set traps in there.

A Hong nodded quickly, and pulled Nong Yasi and Second Sister Shi to help her move stones.

They needed to clear the space from behind the public toilet to the visitor center.

Meanwhile, boxes kept piling up in Shi Yuebai’s storage space.

Soon, the stack was two people high.

Little Mie Mie has had diarrhea all day today."
