Chapter 173: Sister Ying Wins

Scavenging in the Wasteland

The cold wind howled, chilling people to the bone.

But Second Sister Shi wished she could strip off her clothes and take an ice-cold bath.

She turned around and pointed at the ten doors in front of her.

“Which one leads to the swimming pool?”

Nong Yasi looked startled and turned to Shi Yuebai for help.

Shi Yuebai waved her hand, signaling Nong Yasi not to interfere.

“Second Sister, don’t rely too much on what you see.”

Standing behind Second Sister Shi, Shi Yuebai lifted the long stick in her hand and poked Second Sister’s shoulder.

“Use your ears to ‘see.’”

What you see isn’t always real.

Whenever Second Sister Shi trained her hearing, she’d either close her eyes or cover them with a cloth.

But having eyes and being able to see should be a good thing.

You have to learn to make the most of your hearing, even when you can see.

Maximize your sense of hearing.

That way, you won’t end up resenting your eyes at a critical moment.

Second Sister Shi stared at the afterimages before her, feeling lost.

Her vision was badly disrupted, and her hearing was affected too.

There was no way she could find the right door and dive into the pool under these circumstances.

Not to mention, outside the second wall, a bunch of women were screaming and shouting.

Second Sister Shi felt feverish, sweat beading on her forehead.

She was hot, her blood boiling, as if there was a furnace burning in her stomach.

The heat kept spreading through her limbs.

She was anxious—ten doors in front of her, women screaming in her ears.

For a moment, Second Sister Shi was like an ant on a hot pan, so agitated she could only pace in circles.

Meanwhile, Shi Yuebai strolled leisurely away, heading over to Ying Ruoying.

Her daily physical training was progressing steadily.

At first, the people in the “Tong” compound felt sorry for her, seeing how painfully she walked.

But eventually, everyone got used to it.

Every day, Shi Yuebai would hike from the compound to the public restroom.

Then she’d climb back down.

After that, she’d doodle by the drainage ditch.

Then she’d spend a few hours circling around Ying Ruoying.

When Shi Yuebai came down from the second floor, Ying Ruoying waved at her.

“Yuebai, look.”

She showed off a huge pile of clothes she’d collected.

Most of them were still in their packaging.

There were all kinds of T-shirts, shorts, and dresses in various sizes and styles.

Ever since Xiao Lingye started trading finished food products, Ying Ruoying had been able to pay her bodyguards.

So she’d been collecting supplies much faster.

All these clothes had been gathered in one go.

She pulled out a stack of fabric.

“Yuebai, look, I’ve collected lots of material too. And there’s a sewing machine.”

Shi Yuebai glanced up to see Ying Ruoying’s face full of anticipation.

She’d collected all kinds of fabric—cotton, linen, silk, wool, you name it.

And the sewing machine was brand new.

If she sent all this to the “Tong” compound, Shi’s mother would be thrilled.

After all, Shi’s mother had studied fashion design when she was young.

The long tunic Shi Yuebai was wearing now, made from a bedsheet, was hand-sewn by her mother, stitch by stitch.

Even her underwear, tailored to fit her large frame, was made by her mother.

But up until now, all her mother had to work with were bedsheets.

Now, not only had Ying Ruoying collected all sorts of fabrics, she’d also gathered a bunch of accessories.

Pearls, gemstones, gold, silver, jade—you name it.

They practically filled the whole living room.

“These things aren’t worth much these days,” Ying Ruoying said, holding a box of agate.

“I checked—they’re all real. Let Auntie make you an outfit and sew these on as decorations.”

“What do you think?”

Her eyes sparkled as she looked at Shi Yuebai, as if begging for praise.

Shi Yuebai curled her lips. “Sure.”

She realized Ying Ruoying had a bit of her mother’s flair.

Both loved dressing her up.

Shi Yuebai pinched the fat at her waist.

Oh, right—she didn’t have a waist.

She couldn’t figure out why she’d managed to attract both her mother and Ying Ruoying’s attention.

After Ying Ruoying huffed and puffed, making several trips to move everything from the living room into the basement and piling it onto the teleportation array, she ran back up to check on Shi Yuebai.

Shi Yuebai had already filled both bathtubs on the first and second floors to the brim.

There was no helping it—the city villas didn’t have water storage tanks.

Ying Ruoying didn’t use much water on her own.

She was so frugal that she’d reuse her bathwater to mop the floor and wash clothes.

Honestly, in this respect, Ying Ruoying’s quality of life couldn’t compare to the folks back at Shi Yuebai’s base.

The public restroom there had a massive water tank.

Shi Yuebai didn’t have to fetch water every day.

With a tank that big, they could never use it up in one go.

With so many people at the base, even if everyone bathed daily, brushed their teeth morning and night, flushed the toilet every time, and used the water for cleaning, the tank would last a week or two.

But here at Ying Ruoying’s, with no storage containers, Shi Yuebai had to come by every day to add water.

It was a hassle. If she ever skipped a day, Ying Ruoying would be parched in no time.

“Next time, see if you can find some water tanks. Collect as many as you can.”

Shi Yuebai sat on the second-floor sofa.

“Don’t drink dirty water. Just drain the bathwater after you’re done. Why bother saving it?”

She nagged at Ying Ruoying like she was scolding an elderly person who was too thrifty.

Ying Ruoying’s eyes turned red. In this world, Shi Yuebai was the only one who cared about her.

Shi Yuebai shifted, and the whole sofa creaked under her weight.

“Stop eating processed food, too. Make yourself some hotpot at home. Starting tomorrow, eat more vegetables.”

Shi Yuebai always treated her own people differently.

Ying Ruoying nodded, looking at the sweat on Shi Yuebai’s forehead with concern.

She depended on Shi Yuebai emotionally—her feelings had long since surpassed those of a subordinate for her boss.

Just as she was about to say something, one of the bodyguards outside called out:

“Sister Ying, the supply delivery is here!”

Ying Ruoying glanced at Shi Yuebai, then hurried downstairs.

The ones delivering supplies were still that grandfather and grandson duo.

They’d just entered the courtyard, each carrying a huge bundle.

A bodyguard dragged someone in from outside.

“Sister Ying, this guy was sneaking around behind Grandpa Bao and Little Bao.”

Grandpa Bao and Little Bao were what they called the grandfather and grandson.

They’d been eating well lately, and their frequent trips in and out of Ying Ruoying’s villa with supplies had drawn attention.

Shi Yuebai sat on the second floor, eyes closed, resting.

A white paper airplane landed on the wall.

In the cold wind, Ying Ruoying wrapped her fur coat tighter around herself, looking every bit the boss lady.

“Send him to Xiao Lingye.”

Time to head out into the freezing wind to pick up the delivery."
