Chapter 179: Laborers +10
Scavenging in the Wasteland
Don’t be fooled by how the management keeps the point value of daily necessities so low.
In reality, the management needs daily necessities too.
In fact, they live even more extravagantly than the average survivor.
The higher up the management, the more daily necessities they consume.
For now, their stockpiles of daily necessities and ready-made food are sufficient.
But the burden on management is heavy.
Many people want to become administrators in the management class.
Because not only do they have plenty of food and supplies, they also get to oversee the survivors both inside and outside the city.
Every possible connection and backdoor has already been exploited to the fullest.
That’s why there are so many administrators in the management building.
To live lavishly and support so many administrators, they rely on relentless exploitation of those below.
“Upper management is already very dissatisfied with the mercenaries slacking off lately.”
In the empty exchange office, the supervisor lectured two subordinates.
“If you see mercenaries coming to exchange points, don’t worry—make things difficult for them.”
The two subordinates happily agreed.
Say what you will, but the mercenaries always have a lot of high-quality daily necessities.
They’re generous, too. Every time they come to exchange points, to make the process go smoother, they always slip some extra benefits to the administrators at the exchange.
If you hassle the mercenaries, they’ll give even more.
The supervisor left, satisfied, muttering as he went.
Could it be that because of the cold weather, those scattered scavengers aren’t coming into the city to sell daily necessities anymore?
Scarface hadn’t been paying much attention to the changes in and around the city these past couple of days.
He’d noticed something strange about Ying Ruoying’s villa.
He had previously stationed dozens of his men in Ying Ruoying’s villa.
But now, not a single one of them had come to report to him.
Scarface gathered some men and stormed into Ying Ruoying’s villa again.
But this time, the villa was completely empty.
The ready-made food that had been hidden in the basement had long since been eaten by Scarface’s men.
“Where the hell are my guys?”
Scarface barked at his subordinates.
But they couldn’t give him any answers.
Just a short while ago, there had been so many people here. The plan was to lie in ambush and wait for the team behind the scenes to show up, then catch them all in one go.
But now, the villa was deserted—not even a corpse left behind.
It felt downright eerie.
“Leave a few men here to keep watch! Maybe they all went off whoring together—wait for them to come back.”
Scarface was thoroughly pissed.
He’d been busy running errands for the office manager lately and didn’t have the energy to deal with turf wars.
If he could’ve kept watch here himself, he’d know exactly where his men had gone off to whore around.
Yeah, that had to be it—they’d gone off together to mess around.
He didn’t believe that so many of his men could’ve run into trouble.
There hadn’t been any bad rumors from inside or outside the city reaching Scarface’s ears.
This time, Scarface left 10 men in the villa.
He also stationed 5 more outside, just in case anything unusual happened.
Before leaving, he gave his men strict instructions to keep a close eye on things this time.
No sooner had he left than Shi Yuebai got word—another 10 people had arrived.
She called over Xiao Jiao and Cao Lingyun, but didn’t bring Second Sister-in-law Shi or Ying Ruoying this time.
The three of them teleported into the villa.
The 10 men inside hadn’t even realized what was happening before Cao Lingyun and Xiao Jiao charged in.
This time, the two worked well together—Cao Lingyun tanked in front, while Xiao Jiao swung her staff with fierce energy from behind.
The 10 men were taken down easily.
They didn’t even make it out of the living room—by the time they hit the floor, they were all out cold.

Cao Lingyun’s clothes got slashed up again.
He wiped the blood off his unscathed skin, grabbed two men—one in each hand—and dragged those knocked out by Xiao Jiao’s staff down to the basement for teleportation.
The 15 men Shi Yuebai had previously captured all had varying degrees of injuries.
Shi Yuebai hadn’t treated them.
But since they’d been eating food with zero radiation every day, the lighter wounds had started to scab over.
Even the more seriously injured, who’d been barely hanging on, began to regain some strength after a couple of days.
Give them a few more days to recover, and they’d be ready to dig in the sewers.
When the 10 new arrivals met the 15 already there, every face was filled with shock.
“What the hell is this place?”
A man named Luo Yupeng asked the person in front of him.
He’d been knocked out by Xiao Jiao—a cute, petite girl—with a single swing of her staff.
When he woke up, he was shackled and brought here.
The cold made people shiver, and their bodies were covered in wounds. They felt miserable.
Zhuang Ziqian sighed and sat wearily on the cold ground.
“We’ve been kidnapped—this is some freaky shit.”
Anyone able to join a private team in the city had to be in decent shape.
But no matter how tough they were, none of them had done this kind of work before.
Every day, all they did was eat and dig, then rest when it was time.
At first, everyone was injured—some even looked like they were on the verge of death.
All they could do was follow Cao Lingyun’s instructions.
But now, most of their wounds had healed, and another 10 of their own had arrived.
Zhuang Ziqian lowered his voice and said to Luo Yupeng and the others,
“How about we make a run for it?”
Another man replied in disbelief, “Are you crazy? Did you forget what that fat lady said?”
They were still shackled—anyone who tried to escape would be shot.
Honestly, there was food and water here.
Sure, they were shackled and digging was hard work, but it wasn’t unlivable.
Trying to escape would be risking their lives.
Zhuang Ziqian’s eyes flashed with venom as he looked at the cowering man.
“You want to stay here and be beaten and treated like a slave? Not me.”
He’d only been knocked out by Xiao Jiao’s staff.
He was still full of energy and hadn’t realized just how terrifying Shi Yuebai’s people could be.
Luo Yupeng nodded.
“From what I’ve observed these past few days, the security here is pretty lax. That Cao Lingyun guy isn’t watching us all the time.”
“Did you see those two pregnant women? They’re about to give birth.”
“When that happens, things here will get chaotic.”
He lowered his voice and shared his plan with his fellow captives.
After all, back in the city, following Scarface meant food, drink, women, and a place to sleep.
No need to dig like this.
Most of the men agreed to his plan.
Meanwhile, the old folks nearby kept their heads down, digging in silence, a hint of mockery in their eyes.
Cao Lingyun changed into a fresh set of clothes and hurried over to the canal.
He cracked his little whip. “Slacking off, are you?! I’ll beat you to death!”
“Hurry up and get to work!”
Go, Bag! Keep it up!"
