Chapter 2: All the Men of the Shi Family Are Dead

Scavenging in the Wasteland

Before Shi Yuebai transmigrated, she was a powerful witch—so powerful that if she claimed second place, no one would dare claim first.

But now, she found herself in this wretched state: a mountain of flesh wrapped around her fragile bones.

Shi Yuebai couldn’t even stand up if she wanted to.

Her second sister-in-law’s pleading voice, trembling with fear, rang out:

“My husband will be back soon! The eldest of the Shi family is a hero who fought against mutant beasts and zombies!”

“You can’t do this to me, you can’t!!!”

Back when disaster first struck, Shi Yi was still in his right mind and fought on the front lines with the garrison.

He’d even been awarded a hero’s medal.

He had contributed greatly to the survival of the remaining survivors.

So the Shi family was considered a hero’s family.

But now—

The men who lifted the tarp couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

“That was years ago. Things are different now.”

“None of your men are coming back. Let’s be honest: this afternoon, a horde of mutant beasts attacked our survivor camp.”

“All the men from your Shi family are dead. Not a single one made it back.”

“Even your mother-in-law—who knows where she ran off to, chased by mutant beasts.”

So that’s how it was.

Second sister-in-law finally understood, and tears streamed down her face.

It was because they knew all the men of the Shi family had been killed by mutant beasts, leaving only a few helpless women and children behind.

That’s why these men dared to come and bully them.

“I don’t believe it!”

Second sister-in-law groped around and found a stone.

She swung it wildly.

“My husband and big brother are both strong! How could they die so easily?”

Lying on the ground, Shi Yuebai was both angry and helpless.

She rolled her eyes. With a start like this, she might as well be dead.

Maybe if she closed her eyes and opened them again, she’d get a better hand to play.

But look at this mess: she, a 750-pound fatty.

Someone who could gain ten pounds just by drinking water.

A beautiful but blind second sister-in-law.

A mentally challenged, crippled little niece.

All the men dead, Shi mother missing.

And a bunch of lecherous scum eyeing her sister-in-law.

Shi Yuebai’s chances of turning things around: zero.

“Hey.”

But Shi Yuebai still spoke up. She struggled to turn her head, her chubby cheeks wobbling as she glared at the men and barked,

“Don’t touch her.”

She was cold and selfish, often bullying her fellow witches, but she did have one principle—

She couldn’t stand men forcing themselves on women.

Even if she had no chance of turning the tables, Shi Yuebai still crooked her finger at the men, taunting,

“Come at me instead, if you dare.”

The men closing in on her second sister-in-law froze for a moment.

Then they burst out laughing.

One laughed so hard he could barely breathe.

“Hahaha, what did you say? You fat sow, even if you begged us, we’d still be disgusted.”

“Desperate for a man, aren’t you?”

Her little niece, sitting beside Shi Yuebai, picked up a handful of pebbles and threw them at the men.

“Hit, hit! Don’t talk about my auntie like that! Don’t!”

She was angry and anxious, her head wobbling, her eyes unfocused—her balance clearly not right.

One of the men slapped the little girl across the face.

The frail, bean-sprout-like child was knocked out cold with a single blow.

He raised his foot to kick her in the head.

“Damn it, useless trash like this should just die. All they do is waste survivor resources.”

In the wasteland, survival supplies were limited.

Scavengers had to sift through the ruins every day, searching for usable resources to trade for points.

Then they’d use those points to get a ration of food from the management.

Food was extremely scarce—even if survivors had points, it didn’t guarantee enough to eat.

So, to survive, many survivor groups would abandon the old, weak, sick, or pregnant as burdens.

The Shi family, with three women and children unable to fend for themselves, and Shi mother heavily pregnant, had long been on the list to be cast out.

It was only because Shi Yi had once been a garrison hero, and Shi father, Shi Yi, and Shi Er were all much stronger than average, that the group had tolerated the Shi family until now.

“Yao Yao!”

Realizing what was happening, second sister-in-law shouted, swinging her stone to fend off the men closing in, while turning her head toward her daughter.

Just as that big foot was about to stomp down on Yao Yao’s head—

A fat, meaty hand grabbed the man’s ankle.

Lying on the ground like a mountain of flesh, Shi Yuebai struggled to lift her bloated face, her eyes squeezed into slits by her fat.

From those slits, a cold light flashed.

“I told you to come at me. Leave those two weaklings alone.”

“Didn’t listen, huh?”

Shi Yuebai had ruled the witch clan for a thousand years—no one had ever dared ignore her words.

Rage surged through her, and her fingers tightened.

She felt her back grow hot, sweat breaking out.

At first, the man whose ankle she grabbed didn’t notice anything unusual.

He just thought this fat sow was surprisingly strong.

Gradually, his companions shouted, “Your foot!”

“Ah! Her fingers—they’re digging in!”

It was hard to imagine what they were seeing.

Shi Yuebai’s large, fan-like hand gripped the man’s ankle, her five fingers sinking in as if squeezing cotton.

Soon, the man felt a searing pain.

He screamed and collapsed, “Let go, you fat bitch! Let go! Let go!”

He struggled, his leg jerking, trying to shake her off.

Instead, he shook his own foot off.

Just like shaking off a loose, dangling part.

The man stared in shock at the familiar severed foot in Shi Yuebai’s hand.

Shi Yuebai didn’t even glance at it—she tossed it straight into the fire.

Her fingertips were covered in blood, but without pausing, she reached for the man’s leg again.

With one swipe, she tore off his pant leg with a ripping sound.

Five bloody claw marks ran down his thigh.

No normal person could do that.

Who could grab someone like that?

“Ahhh! Run! It’s a zombie! A zombie!”

The man’s companions screamed and fled, throwing back the tarp.

Second sister-in-law was still panicked, groping her way to Yao Yao, scooping up her unconscious daughter.

She reached out for Shi Yuebai.

“Yuebai, Yuebai, what’s happening? Are there zombies?”

“Yuebai, answer me! Say something!”

If zombies were here, how could a blind woman carry her daughter and the heavy, immobile Yuebai and escape?

Second sister-in-law was frantic.

Shi Yuebai grabbed the struggling man on the ground and, with a few swipes, left him barely alive.

She muttered,

“No zombies. But this guy’s about to die.”

“Someone might come soon. Second sister-in-law, I can’t move—drag the body farther away.”"
