Chapter 6: How Boring, Just Died Like That

Scavenging in the Wasteland

Outside the Shi family’s tarp shelter, Chen Lao’er and a few other men kept a close watch on any movement inside.

“Those damn bitches, how dare they make me lose face.”

Cursing, Chen Lao’er spat a thick glob of phlegm onto the ground.

The reason he was staking out the Shi family’s shelter was because he just couldn’t swallow his anger from earlier.

“Just wait. That fat pig in the Shi family eats enough for a whole mountain every day.”

“All the men in the Shi family are dead now. That woman of Shi Er will have to go out and scavenge for food for that fat sow.”

Hadn’t the others in the group just now condemned them for being inhumane?

Well, when Shi Er’s wife goes out to scavenge, they could just strip her pants off, couldn’t they?

In this wasteland, women go missing every day anyway.

Who would know if Shi Er’s wife was killed by them or eaten by a mutant beast?

Chen Lao’er and his buddies waited, gnashing their teeth.

But even as daylight broke, Shi Er’s wife still hadn’t come out to scavenge.

People in the group were already getting up one after another.

At night, no one dared to go out, afraid of mutant beast attacks.

Daytime was only a little safer, but not by much.

At least during the day, survivors could see better.

If a mutant animal was nearby, they’d have a better chance to run.

A man next to Chen Lao’er yawned and pointed at the unmoving Shi family tarp in the dim light.

“Maybe those burdens are already dead?”

Hearing this, Chen Lao’er and the others thought it was quite possible.

After all, with all the Shi men dead, how could a few useless women survive in the wasteland?

Women in the wasteland often did this sort of thing.

They knew their future was either to be used and abused by countless men, starved or beaten to death, or fed to mutant beasts.

So why not just die and get it over with, instead of suffering so much before death?

Chen Lao’er couldn’t help but feel a little pleased.

“How boring, just died like that. Shi Er’s wife was actually pretty good-looking.”

Rumor had it that before the apocalypse, Shi Er’s wife was a beautiful and famous actress.

The Shi family had been well-off too.

The kind of rich family you’d see on TV.

Not just Chen Lao’er and his gang—even in this group, who knew how many men were secretly eyeing Shi Er’s wife?

It was just that, at first, the Shi men were strong and no one dared to make a move.

Chen Lao’er spat on the ground again, feeling disappointed.

After a whole night of waiting, the Shi women had apparently killed themselves.

“The bodies must still be warm!”

Some men started making suggestions.

Chen Lao’er kicked one of them. “Then you go.”

A few men grinned with disgusting smiles.

The man who got kicked actually grabbed his belt and headed toward the Shi family’s tarp.

Most of the group had already gotten up and gone out scavenging in teams.

Life in the wasteland was tough.

The area around their survivor group had long been picked clean of supplies.

So some suggested they go farther afield to scavenge.

After the Shi men died, the group’s fighting and defense abilities had dropped sharply.

So this time, almost all the men in the group went out scavenging.

The women and children left in the tarps saw a lone man heading toward the Shi family’s shelter.

But none of them said a word.

As someone approached the Shi family’s tarp, Shi Yuebai was already awake.

She had spent the whole night adjusting her internal energy.

From time to time, she burned some fat energy and used a simple talisman to transfer it to Shi Yaoyao and Shi Er’s wife.

The energy couldn’t fill their stomachs, but it was enough to keep them going for the day.

“Well, look at that, there’s actually one still alive in here.”

The man entered the tarp, undoing his belt, and looked with disgust at the pig-like Shi Yuebai.

He didn’t pay her any mind. His gaze fell on Shi Er’s wife, who was leaning against Shi Yuebai with her eyes closed.

“Still warm, huh?”

The man reached out his filthy hand to grab Shi Er’s wife.

Shi Yuebai, expressionless, reached out her fat hand and, with a move no one could see clearly, yanked the man’s hand right off his arm.

“Didn’t you learn your lesson yesterday?”

She tossed the still-warm hand aside, then slapped the man across the face with it.

“This one’s still warm—want it?”

The man snapped back to his senses, only then realizing the searing pain in his arm.

Just as he was about to scream, Shi Yuebai raised her finger, and a golden talisman shot straight to his mouth.

“Mmm! Mmm! Mmm!”

Terror filled the man’s face as he collapsed to the ground, clutching his bleeding stump with his remaining hand.

Blood gushed out, and his face turned pale.

Shi Er’s wife was startled awake by the commotion. Realizing someone was in the tarp, she screamed,

“Ah! Who are you? Who are you?!”

Hearing her screams, Chen Lao’er and his crew exchanged glances from afar.

“So Shi Er’s wife isn’t dead after all.”

Their faces twisted into knowing grins.

Looked like Shi Er’s wife was putting up quite a fight in there.

Shi Yuebai tugged at Shi Er’s wife and whispered,

“He’s going to run. We can’t let him get away—he’s got friends outside.”

Earlier, when Shi Yuebai checked herself internally, she found that after transferring so much fat energy to Shi Er’s wife and Shi Yaoyao, she’d only lost four pounds.

So she still weighed 744 pounds.

At that weight, Shi Yuebai couldn’t even walk, let alone get up to chase the man.

Shi Er’s wife hadn’t figured out what was going on, but instinctively did as Shi Yuebai said.

She quickly got up and grabbed a stick nearby.

Shi Er’s wife listened carefully, followed the sound of the man’s shuffling escape, and brought the stick down hard.

Sitting in a hollow of stones, Shi Yuebai directed her,

“Er Sao, your aim is off—lower, a bit lower.”

Shi Er’s wife adjusted and swung again.

This time, she used all her strength.

For some reason, her previously weak arms suddenly felt powerful.

She was surprised—she hadn’t eaten since yesterday, but now she didn’t feel hungry at all.

Instead, her whole body was full of energy.

Shi Er’s wife swung the stick with even more vigor.

The sound of the stick hitting flesh rang out.

With a muffled groan, the man who’d been trying to escape collapsed to the ground, his forehead covered in blood.

Shi Yuebai patted the frightened Shi Yaoyao beside her.

“Er Sao, don’t let him go. You and I can only handle one at a time.”

“If he gets out and brings others, we’ll be in real trouble.”"
