Chapter 102: The Upright and Glorious Village Chief
Big Boss Builds Infrastructure in the Interstellar Era
“This…” Ge Miao scratched his face and looked toward the edge of the village, but saw neither the flying white horse nor any sign of Yun Qimu. He suddenly felt a bit anxious.
He’d been too focused on running earlier to notice—could something have happened to Chief Yun on the way?
Lying nearby, Pei Yu was still gasping for breath. He turned his head, his voice tinged with jealousy as he spoke, “Of all the people to worry about, your sister’s the last. She’s got a mount now—what could possibly happen to her? That horse flies so high, even an avalanche couldn’t reach her.”
Thinking back to how he’d nearly burst a lung running below, while that young lady was riding a stunning white horse, soaring above the snow, wind in her hair, Pei Yu was so envious he could practically drool.
“A mount? A flying mount?” Yun Xiaoyu looked blank. He didn’t know that Dai Mu had a mount.
Ge Miao said, “Oh, I know about this! Chief Yun drew a card from a rare little monster she defeated—it was a six-card pull, too.”
Pei Yu: Say no more. I’m just jealous.
Thinking about what they’d done on the mountain—didn’t even run into a single monster, just picked some little grass. His cousin had finally pointed out a minor use for the grass, but before he could gather much, the avalanche hit and he’d run himself half to death.
And then there was that lucky “European emperor”—one little monster, and she gets a six-card pull, including a flying mount card. Pei Yu felt like howling with envy.
Damn it, why couldn’t he be lucky for once?
Was it really true that “you become like those you’re close to”? Had he caught Wu Xingyu’s bad luck?
Speaking of which, where was that little brat Wu Xingyu?
“Ah, look! Chief Yun is back—and there are three flying white horses!”
Suddenly, the villagers who had come out to watch let out a cheer, and everyone quickly looked up.
Sure enough, three white horses were flying in from the direction of the mountains.
There were people riding on the horses, and a few more dangling below, suspended by ropes, all slowly flying toward them.
Ge Miao’s eyes lit up and he jumped up excitedly. “That’s my brother-in-law! And the people from the Qiong Whale Tribe—they’ve been rescued by Chief Yun!”
A cheer erupted among the villagers.
Pei Yu scrambled to his feet, eyes full of envy and longing as he watched the people on the white horses. Only when they landed in the village did he rush over, eager to touch one of the three white horses.
But the gentle white horse just snorted at him and turned away disdainfully.
“What the hell, this stupid horse is looking down on me!” He stared, finger trembling as he pointed at the horse under Yun Qimu.
Then he was nearly kicked flying by an impatient hoof—luckily, he dodged into the crowd just in time.
What a coward!
Yun Qimu glanced at the timid figure peeking out from the crowd and snorted, then jumped nimbly off her horse.
On the other side, Luke and the others, who hadn’t been welcomed by the horses, scrambled down in a sorry state—legs weak, hands shaking, but their faces still full of excitement as they came over to thank Yun Qimu.
“We really owe it to Chief Yun this time. Otherwise, we’d all be buried under the snow.”
“Yeah, what was with all that snow? It just came pouring down and nearly buried us alive. If we hadn’t found a big rock to hide behind, we’d be goners for sure.”
“Thank goodness Chief Yun showed up. Even that big rock wouldn’t have lasted much longer.”
The Qiong Whale Tribe members all chimed in, still shaken by their recent ordeal.
Yun Qimu smiled. “We’re all villagers of Earth Village. Helping each other is the right thing to do. Since I had the ability to save you, I couldn’t just stand by.”
“Hahaha, Chief Yun’s right! We’re all one village—we should look out for each other!”
At the village entrance, Masa and his group also came over to ask Awa and the others about what happened on the mountain, making the scene even livelier.
Pei Yu quietly slipped over and patted Amos on the shoulder. Seeing that he wasn’t hurt—just a bit bedraggled with wet hair—Pei Yu grinned. “My dear buddy Amos, I’m so glad you’re okay.”
Amos’s usually cold face still showed a hint of lingering fear, but seeing Pei Yu’s genuine concern, he was a little moved.
He pressed his pale, frozen lips together and said softly, “Thanks for worrying.”
Pei Yu immediately slung an arm around his shoulders, grinning like a good buddy. “Hey, we’re pals—no need to thank me.”
Then, lowering his voice mysteriously, he asked, “So, did you guys find anything good up there? Come on, tell your dear buddy.”
Amos:
He tried to dodge away, but Pei Yu’s grip was firm. With a reluctant face, Amos replied coldly, “We just ran into a few Mengji beasts.”
Pei Yu’s eyes went wide. “What? You actually ran into monsters? I’m so jealous!”
Amos looked confused. “It was just a few little monsters. What’s there to be jealous about?”
Pei Yu wiped away imaginary tears, looking deeply sorrowful. “You don’t get it. You’re still too young to understand the pain of not even running into a single monster and just picking grass.”
Amos: ???
He really didn’t understand what Pei Yu was talking about.
“Chief Yun, could I borrow your horse? I need to go look for someone.” Mo Xie stepped out of the crowd, followed by Yuan An and Yun He, both looking anxious.
Yun Qimu, who had been chatting and trying to project the image of an upright and glorious village chief, immediately turned around. “Mr. Mo, who are you looking for?”
She glanced over the group, but didn’t see a certain beautiful face. Her heart skipped a beat.
Sure enough, Mo Xie’s face was grim as he said, “I’m looking for my eldest nephew. He didn’t run back with us.”
Yuan An and Yun He quickly added, “Yeah, yeah, we haven’t seen Third Brother since we got back to the village. We don’t know when he got separated.”
“With Third Brother’s luck, he probably stumbled into something again and got stuck.”
Hearing this, Pei Yu let go of Amos, stroked his chin, and nodded. “Maybe he slipped on the ice and fell into a hole.”
It was hard to tell if he was gloating or genuinely worried.
But no one paid him any mind. Yun Qimu’s mouth twitched, and she immediately said seriously, “Then what are we waiting for? I’ll help you look.”
With that, she swung onto her horse. Mo Xie followed, leaping onto another white horse. There was still one left.
Pei Yu’s eyes lit up, and he swallowed hard, trying to look righteous as he stepped forward. “I’ll come too! If my nephew’s in trouble, as his uncle, I have to do my part.”
“We’ll come too!” Yuan An and Yun He hurried over to join them."
