Chapter 101: She Actually Got Herself a Mount
Big Boss Builds Infrastructure in the Interstellar Era
Awa Mai was running with his strong, powerful long legs, and even though he was sprinting at full speed, his breathing didn’t falter in the slightest.
Suddenly, his face—like it had been cast in bronze—creased with a deep frown beneath his thick eyebrows. “Did we forget something?”
“Forget something?” The clansmen running alongside him turned their heads, exchanging confused glances. “No, I don’t think so. I even grabbed my weapon on the way out.”
“Yeah, yeah, how could we forget the weapons Chief Yun gave us? If we lost them, we’d have to pay for them!” The others chimed in, secretly congratulating themselves on their quick reflexes earlier.
At that moment, Ge Miao slapped his thigh. “We forgot Chief Yun!”
“Gah—”
Silence fell, as heavy as today’s snowstorm.
All ten of them came to a sudden halt. Good grief, how could they forget their employer?
Everyone’s face was filled with anxiety. “It’s all my fault. I’m so used to running off on my own that I totally forgot about this.”
“Yeah, usually we all just run for ourselves—whoever escapes, escapes. But this time it’s different, Chief Yun is with us! We have to go back and find her. What would Earth Village do without Chief Yun?”
“Right, right, let’s go back and look for her!”
They all started talking at once, but as soon as they turned around, their worried words got stuck in their throats.
They stared, dumbfounded, at the magnificent white horse chasing up behind them—a holy, winged creature, and the person riding atop it.
Wasn’t that Chief Yun, the very person they’d just been worrying about?
Well, damn. She’d even gotten herself a mount! Why the hell were they worrying about her?
Yun Qimu sat high on the white horse, looking down at the ten of them standing there with their heads tilted back, mouths agape, like a bunch of frozen popsicles. She raised an eyebrow and smiled. “What are you all doing standing here like ice sculptures? The avalanche is about to catch up.”
The ten of them snapped out of it, just in time to see the roaring, all-engulfing avalanche swallow up a running Mengji in the blink of an eye. That massive beast didn’t even have a chance to struggle before it was buried and vanished without a trace.
The sight sent chills down their spines and shook them to their core.
So this is how dangerous an avalanche really is!
“Run, run, run! Hurry!”
This time, none of them dared to be careless. They ran with the same sense of crisis as when an SSS-level berserk beast was chasing them, teeth snapping at their heels. They put everything they had into running.
And just like that, they were even faster than before. What took them an hour to climb up, they covered in just a few minutes going downhill.
With their skills and courage, strong legs, and precise jumps, they leapt down the slope, using protruding rocks as stepping stones, performing aerial stunts that would put monkeys to shame. In no time, they reached the foot of the mountain.
On the right side, Pei Yu and his group were running down another ridge and met up with them just in time. But before Pei Yu and the others could even wave hello, the avalanche came thundering after them.
At the very back, Yuan An was huffing and puffing, his round body wobbling, his chubby face pale and ashen, looking like he could collapse at any moment. He barely escaped being swallowed by the ferocious snow beast.
At the last second, Mo Xie grabbed him and dragged him along, barely saving his life.
Once the two groups joined up, they didn’t stop running until they’d made it all the way back to Earth Village. Only then did the roaring avalanche finally subside.
The last wave of snow was blocked by a few danmu fruit trees at the village entrance, letting only a little snow spill inside.
All in all, it was a stroke of luck. Only three kids who’d been climbing trees at the village entrance got buried by the snow; everyone else was unharmed.
Ge Miao and the others quickly dug the three kids out of the snow.
“Xiao Mao, Lu Xiaomao, are you okay?”
Ge Miao held the still-skinny Lu Xiaomao in his arms, frowning at the boy’s blue-white face, worry written all over his own.
“Ptooey.” Lu Xiaomao spat out a mouthful of snow, his teeth chattering from the cold, his big eyes still wide with lingering fear—but he didn’t cry.
“I-I’m fine…”
“Xiao Mao, my Xiao Mao!” Not far away, Sha Kela rushed over, scooping Lu Xiaomao into her arms. Tears streamed from her big eyes—so like her son’s—as she cried out in anguish.
Ge Miao stood awkwardly to the side. “Sis, Xiao Mao’s fine—just cold. Take him home for a hot bath and some soup, he’ll be okay.”
Lu Xiaomao reached out his icy little hand to wipe her tears, his childish voice trembling but urgent. “I’m okay, Mama, don’t cry.”
“I have some fish soup—do you want some?”
Yun Xiaoyu watched the tearful mother and son, a hint of envy flickering across his cool little face. Then he pulled out a steaming bowl of fish soup from his spatial storage, holding it out with his big, dark eyes blinking.
Mother and son turned to look at him in unison. Sha Kela quickly wiped her tears, joy lighting up her face. “Yes, yes, thank you, thank you, little…”
“My name is Yun Qiyu.”
“Thank you, Xiaoyu.” Sha Kela broke into a grateful smile, taking the big bowl of fish soup and feeding it to Lu Xiaomao.
Yun Xiaoyu turned away awkwardly, then handed a bowl each to the other two children.
The fish soup worked wonders. After drinking it, the three kids quickly warmed up.
Snowfish meat had a nourishing effect on the body—not always noticeable, but in this moment, it worked fast.
Lu Xiaomao’s blue-white face was soon rosy again.
Seeing this, the worry faded from Ge Miao’s face, and Sha Kela was overjoyed. She quickly asked, “How much for this bowl of fish soup? I’ll pay.”
Although Luke had bought a cabin, he’d also fought a lot of monsters on the way back and earned quite a few spirit coins, giving some to her. So Sha Kela, who stayed at home, actually had more money than Ge Miao.
Ge Miao, who’d been about to offer to pay himself, patted his empty pockets, and his young, handsome face fell.
They’d left in such a hurry that they hadn’t even opened the treasure chests Chief Yun had promised them.
Yun Xiaoyu turned away, muttering, “No need.”
Seeing that Sha Kela wanted to say more, he looked up at Ge Miao. “Dai Mu, where’s my sister?”
“Yeah, where’s Luke? I haven’t seen her,” Sha Kela said, snapping out of her joy and looking around anxiously.
She and many others in the village had heard the thunderous noise from the mountains earlier, but they didn’t know what had happened—didn’t even know what an avalanche was. They thought it was far away and didn’t concern them.
But in just a short while, before she could even leave her cabin, Ge Miao and the others had come running back like their tails were on fire, bringing a wave of snow that even buried her son.
With something this dangerous, and Luke—who’d gone to the mountains with them—not returning, could she have been buried too?
The thought made Sha Kela panic, her eyes filling with tears once again."
