Chapter 106: Smells Just Like Uncle Pei’s Stinky Feet

Big Boss Builds Infrastructure in the Interstellar Era

“Hey, why did you eat it all? Isn’t it bitter?” Mo Xie couldn’t stop him and could only watch helplessly as his eldest nephew chewed and swallowed the bitter melon-flavored jelly.

Even Mo Xie’s usually cold, stern face twisted in sympathy, as if he could taste the bitterness himself.

Wu Xingyu looked at him with a deadpan expression and said seriously, “It’d be a waste not to eat it. Besides, there’s a hint of sweetness after the bitterness. If you get used to it, it’s actually kind of interesting.”

Mo Xie: …

He silently patted Xingyu on the shoulder. Poor kid, suffering like this.

Then, with a look of deep affection, he promised, “Uncle will definitely find you some sweet green jelly stones to try.”

Wu Xingyu corrected him with a straight face, “It’s called jelly.”

“Okay, okay, jelly. Uncle will definitely let you taste some sweet jelly.”

But after making this promise, Mo Xie never managed to dig up any sweet green jelly stones. They were all either bitter melon-flavored, spicy, or so sour your whole face would twist up. Honestly, except for pregnant women with weird cravings, who would like such bizarre flavors?

Compared to those, the salty jelly was actually worth trying, earning a rare positive review from the long-suffering Mo Xie.

“Xingyu, just wait a bit longer. Uncle will try digging somewhere else.”

“No need, Uncle. You’ve already tried eight different spots,” Wu Xingyu said woodenly, trying to persuade him.

But Mo Xie wouldn’t listen. “No way. Uncle just didn’t have enough experience before. This area must be where all the weird flavors gather. I’ll try somewhere even farther away…”

With red-rimmed eyes, Mo Xie hefted his big knife and headed toward a more distant ice wall. At this point, he looked just like a gambler in a stone-betting den, completely obsessed with finding sweet jelly.

His sleeves were rolled up, his hair a mess—nothing like his previous calm and dignified self. When Pei Yu and the other two returned from monster hunting, they were stunned.

How come their dignified cousin (Uncle Mo) looked even more disheveled than they did?

Yuan An cautiously sidled up to Wu Xingyu and asked, “Third Brother, what are you guys doing?”

Wu Xingyu frowned as he watched Mo Xie walk away, then glanced at Yuan An. “Looking for sweet jelly. You guys can go dig for yourselves.”

“Oh, oh, okay.”

Not daring to provoke the gloomy Wu Xingyu, Yuan An obediently nodded and retreated to Yun He’s side.

Pei Yu didn’t dare approach his cousin either—he was honestly spooked by Mo Xie’s crazed look. What kind of evil were these green stones? Even someone as tough as his cousin, who was immune to all poisons and even dark matter, had gone nuts over them.

The three exchanged glances, then turned their attention to Yun Qimu, who was humming a little tune and smiling as she worked.

They watched as she cracked open a green stone, revealing the springy jelly inside. She took a big bite, her face lighting up with delight.

Pei Yu’s eyes sparkled. “So it’s food! Let’s hurry and dig some up—if Village Chief Yun likes it that much, it must be delicious.”

Yuan An hesitated, glancing at Wu Xingyu and then at Mo Xie. “But, Third Brother and the others—”

Before he could finish, Pei Yu—who had just been complaining about being exhausted from monster hunting and demanding compensation—suddenly sprang to life and dashed off to dig for treasure.

Yuan An and Yun He exchanged a look. They knew what was up.

Unable to resist, they too pulled out their weapons and headed for the ice wall. They’d had good food before, but nothing compared to what Earth Village produced.

If even Village Chief Yun was grinning from ear to ear, it had to be something special. No way they’d lose out by digging some up.

A few minutes later…

Three more faces twisted into bitter melon grimaces appeared in the cave.

“Ugh, ptooey, ptooey, ptooey! So bitter! It’s killing me!”

“Ugh, it really does taste just like Uncle Pei’s stinky feet—just smelling it is enough to send you to heaven.”

“Mom, I think I’m seeing the afterlife…”

After all this trouble, the uncle-nephew duo plus Pei Yu were all sprawled on the ground, questioning the meaning of life.

In contrast, Yun Qimu looked completely pleased with herself, only stopping to rest when her arms got sore from digging.

When she turned around, she was met with five pairs of eyes full of envy, jealousy, and resentment.

Yun Qimu: “…What’s wrong with you all? Why are you just sitting there? Hurry up and dig—these green jelly stones are delicious! Kids usually cry for them as snacks.”

Wu Xingyu’s gaze was dark and brooding.

Pei Yu looked at her plaintively. “We didn’t find any sweet ones. Not a single piece.”

Wu Xingyu refused to admit defeat. “Uncle found a mango-flavored one.”

Pei Yu pouted. “That was the only one. After that, we never found another sweet one.”

Yun Qimu looked at them with a blank face, a hint of sympathy in her eyes. “Oh, you guys really have bad luck. I thought they were all fruit-flavored.”

Five pairs of eyes turned red with jealousy.

“Tsk.” Yun Qimu rummaged through her storage space and pulled out five green stones, each about the size of a finger. “Here, since you’re all so pitiful, I’ll be generous and let you have these.”

“Really?” Pei Yu’s eyes lit up. Anything from Village Chief Yun was guaranteed to be good—this time it had to be sweet. He really wanted to try the fruit-flavored jelly.

He hurriedly grabbed one from Yun Qimu’s hand.

Yuan An and Yun He’s eyes sparkled too, and they reached out, trying to act reserved.

Even Mo Xie, looking dazed and slightly crazed, numbly took one as well.

In the end, Yun Qimu had only one left. She handed it to Wu Xingyu. “Here.”

But Wu Xingyu didn’t take it. He stared at it deeply with his dark eyes, then looked up at Yun Qimu and said seriously, “Can you open it for me?”

Yun Qimu raised an eyebrow. “Sure, might as well finish what I started.”

She cracked it open, and a sweet peach aroma wafted out.

Wu Xingyu’s eyes lit up. He quickly took it and, trying to act cool, said, “Thank you.”

At the same time, Yuan An and Yun He’s green stones gave a crisp snap, releasing a wave of bitterness.

Yun He and Yuan An instantly froze.

It was over—their bad luck had finally caught up to them.

Pei Yu’s face changed. He quickly shoved his green jelly stone back into Yun Qimu’s hand and pleaded, “Village Chief Yun, please help me too!”

Yun Qimu smiled. “Sure.”

With a crisp snap, a sweet mango aroma filled the air.

Pei Yu: I admit defeat. Totally convinced.

Yun He and Yuan An, faces full of regret: Why did we have to be so quick just now? Next time, we’ll learn from Little Uncle Pei.

Mo Xie: Sigh, I lost.

In the end, he too asked Yun Qimu to help, and she opened up a grape-flavored jelly for him.

Mo Xie perked up, his cool-guy expression restored. He had to admit, he just couldn’t compare to Village Chief Yun.

“Oh right, can any of you fly?” Yun Qimu asked casually, seeing that they were all eating now.

“Huh? No.”

“Our powers have nothing to do with flying,” they replied, confused.

Good night, good night~"
